Progress
The minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) required for undergraduates is 2.0. Graduate students must
maintain at least a 3.0 GPA.
Reasonable Progress
Reasonable progress is the registration in and completion of a minimum number of credit hours each semester.
The minimum hours required for long semesters (Fall/Spring) are: 12 for undergraduates, 9 for graduates and 14
for law students. Some graduate programs at the University may have varying minimum enrollment requirements.
For each semester that a student fails to meet the minimum enrollment requirement a strike is placed on their
nancial aid record, unless they receive prior approval from their nancial aid counselor. After receiving a third
strike, a student is no longer eligible to receive nancial aid at the University of Texas at Austin
Excessive Hours
Undergraduate students at UT Austin are eligible for federal nancial aid until they reach 150 accumulated credit
hours or, if enrolled in Pharmacy or Architecture, 175 credit hours. Masters degree candidates can accumulate
up to 40 graduate hours. Doctoral candidates who have earned a Masters degree can accumulate an additional
100 hours above the basic 40 hours. Graduate students who are doctoral candidates without earning a Masters
are allowed a total of 160 accumulated graduate hours.
