Secondary Data Tables Problem Identification Even though the life expectancy has risen for everybody in the United States since the 1970s it is still disparities in race and in sex. For instance, the life expectancy of males and females differ and the life expectancy of Whites and Blacks differ also.

Problem Description With health care getting more and more expensive to purchase, many people are asking the question of why even get healthcare? This data table shows that life expectancy has been on the rise since the 70s. The problem is that while life expectancy goes up for everyone females live a longer life. This could be because generally live a healthier life than their male counterparts of the same age, or because there are fewer diseases that attack the female as compared to the male. Race is also a problem because it more likely that White males and females will outlive their Black counterparts. This could be because Blacks are less likely to try and get medical attention when they are sick leading to more problems. Or it could be the Black community is not as well informed about medical threats as their White counterparts. This problem affects the survival and propagation of African Americans because even though we are still living longer lives we should be living just as long as any other race.

Findings a) Magnitude: The problem is severe because if we can track how our life expectancy is going up then we have a chance to see what is making this number increase and take even more steps to make sure it keeps doing so. This problem affects everyone in the United States and even though my data tables dont have information on it everyone in the world. b) Scope: This problem affects everyone of any sex or race. It shows how long you are expected to live this. Number will increase or decrease between sex and race but it is still a problem everyone should focus on. This problem even changes with which city you are in. Between the years of 1989 and 1991 the life expectancy of Alabama was 73.64 years old while in the District of Columbia it was 67.99 years old. c) Changes: This problem has changed over time in small yet steady increments since the data was first recorded in 1970. In 1970 the life expectancy for everyone was 70.8 years old. This number continued to grow till in 1990 it reached 75.4 years old. And finally in 2008 it was recorded at 78 years old. There have been only two times where the numbers have every decreased one being between the 1992 and 1993 year where it went from 75.8 to 75.5 years old. The other year of decease was between 2004 and 2005 year when it changed from 77.5 to 77.4. These changes have been small and going at the current rate this data table predicts that in the year 2020 the life expectancy will be 79.5 years old for everyone.

d) Disparities: There are differences not only sex but in race and location when it comes to life expectancy. Females have been always known to outlive males with the 2008 data showing that females will live to the age of 80.5 years old and males living to only the age of 77.5 years old. There are also disparities in race too. While Whites are expected to live until the age of 78.4 years old while Blacks are only expected to live to the age of 74.3 years old Which is a 4.1 percent difference.
