Why did you decide to run for this office? Because I have served the public as a Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge for 11 years, I would bring extensive trial experience to the Supreme Court. Currently, the Supreme Court does not include an Associate Justice with prior experience as a trial judge. In the past, numerous trial judges have often been elected or appointed to the Court because such pertinent experience is critically important to the work of the Court. I believe my experience, background and work ethic would substantially strengthen our Supreme Court and that I would find the work fulfilling, both personally and professionally. 2. How much will your primary campaign cost? With 6 weeks to go before the primary, I can only roughly estimate my primary campaign cost at $100,000. 3. Key endorsements you have received: Gov. Barbara Roberts, Oregon Education Association, Oregon AFSCME 4. Have you ever been convicted of a crime, been disciplined by a professional licensing board/organization or had an ethics violation filed against you? If so, please give the details. No, I have not.

5. Have you ever filed for bankruptcy, been delinquent on your taxes or other major accounts, or been sued personally or professionally? If so, please give the details. No, I have not. 6. Why should people vote for you? What separates you from your opponent(s)? Be specific. My 11 years of trial experience as a judge includes presiding over hundreds of trials including murder trials, other major felony trials and many complex civil trials. I currently serve on a new panel of circuit court judges who make themselves available to manage complex civil trials on a statewide basis (Oregon Complex Civil Court). In addition, as a practicing attorney, I was a trial attorney for 14 years. I therefore have a total of 25 years of trial experience. My trial experience as a practicing attorney was with legal services programs and my own small law firm representing individuals in injury claims, workers compensation claims, employment discrimination, family law and other civil matters. I also have earned a very extensive record of public service on a voluntary basis and for non-profits for which I have been flattered to receive major civil rights awards both as an attorney and a judge. 7. What are the three most important issues you would address if elected? How? (75 words
for each issue)

A. My intention is to promptly become a highly productive member of the court. This will require that I follow the highest standards of professionalism and collegiality working with my colleagues and producing scholarly and well written legal opinions. I intend to make a substantial contribution to the work of the court and do my part to promote the rule of law, equal treatment under the law and access to justices an essential democratic values. B. I also intend to bring my unique background and experience to the petition for review process. Because the court often exercises discretion in determining what cases to accept for review, I will carefully consider whether to vote to accept review of cases when review and clarification of the law may favorably impact our citizens.

C. I have adhered to the following core values 8. What do you see as other important issues? I will continue to work for a more inclusive legal profession and to increase public access to justice. My public service record has included a commitment to this work for over 20 years. We must restore critical court services we have lost in the past 5 years due to state budget cuts. We must also advocate for the reopening of legal services offices in Oregon which have been closed due to recent cuts in federal funding. We must encourage

attorneys to meet their professional obligation to provide pro bono legal services to low income clients. We must routinely initiate and support joint initiatives with the Oregon State Bar and Oregon law schools to build professionalism and to increase access to justice for Oregonians in all civil and criminal matters. 9. What magazines, newspapers and Web publications do you regularly read to keep up on the news and developments in your areas of interest? I read the Oregonian and the New York Times on a regular basis. I often read non-fiction books that discuss issues relating to political and social philosophy, moral philosophy, science, religion and current events. I also regularly utilize Wikipedia and Ted.com for useful information. 10. Any skeletons in your closet or other potentially embarrassing information that you want to disclose before it comes up in the campaign? None.
