South Johnston High School Assistant Principal Intern 2137 Pine Tree Lane Rocky Mount, NC 27850 252-969-2404

August 16, 2011 Dear South Johnston Faculty and Staff, My name is Sean Murphy and I cannot wait to work with you, learn from you and lead beside you. This school year I am honored to serve as an assistant principal intern here at South Johnston. As a fellow in the Northeast Leadership Academy at NC State, I am constantly learning what leading greatness takes. No doubt, this will continue with the Trojans. Looking over the inspirational record of growth and excellence at South Johnston over the last 41 years, it is easy to be impressed. Yet, the recent accolades for the 20102011 school year indicate an even brighter future for our school and its children. With Principal Price as my mentor, I am positively thrilled to be a part of this family and help make it one of North Carolinas premier schools. Over the past 3 years I taught 9th12th grade at Northwest Halifax High School. Privileged with teaching in both an inclusive and resource classroom, I understand the absolute necessity of reaching every child. Over my short career, I have learned that this is done with unflinching dedication and laser-like focus. Using data and relying on constant analysis, each child and teacher has the opportunity of fulfilling their utmost potential. I have also discovered that the school is a vital part of a larger community. As such, all my work is interwoven with parents and community members, because they are the lynchpin of success. I anxiously await the opportunity of meeting with you. Relationships are the foundation of any great school and over the next 36 weeks I look forward to getting to know you the old fashioned way: talking, sharing and working together. Groups of committed educators focused on student achievement can shape the future and I hope to bolster this sense of purpose throughout the year. It is only through strategy and collaborationwith staff, students and parentsthat greatness happens. Finally, I give my personal vow that I will work tirelessly to realize what I believe is the purpose of education: fulfilling potential. The kids at South Johnston deserve dogged devotion and an endless sense of possibility; that is what I aim to provide. Yours in Anticipation, Sean Murphy
