Johnston County Goal 1: We will expect each school to provide a safe, clean, caring, orderly, and positive environment that supports and is conducive to learning. 21st Century Goals: (State Board of Education) North Carolina Public School students will be healthy and responsible. Every learning environment will be inviting, respectful, supportive, inclusive, and flexible for student success. Every school provides an environment in which each child has positive, nurturing relationships with caring adults. Every school promotes a healthy, active lifestyle where students are encouraged to make responsible choices. Every school will have an action plan to address future facility needs. We will provide a safe, orderly environment by continued implementation of the Trojans' Rule, with emphasis on respect for self, others and school community. Rules have been introduced, along with cards given to students. Rules are posted in classrooms and throughout the school. Students are rewarded for knowing the rules.
By the end of the 2010-2011 school year, the percent of SJHS students who feel the school environment is caring and positive will increase t 73% (2%).
By the end of the 2011-2012 school year, the percent of SJHS students who feel the school environment is caring and positive will increase t 75% (2%).
Strategies
Beginning of year assemblies for purpose of reintroducing Trojans' rule. Students will be rewarded for knowing rules. Introduction of Trojan Rules to new faculty members Staff development to ensure ALL teachers are educated and comfortable about academic and procedural policies and expectations Issue Agendas to all students with Trojan Rules. The rules will also be printed on the back of the new identification badges. Staff members on duty will make an effort to develop relationships with the students they encounter. Suspensions will be used to have discipline and an orderly educational environment. Time-out partners will reduce the number of referrals.
