YOU'RE ABOUT
to have the hght of
your life. And your
greatest opponent
is yourself. What
is this hght? !t's
your hght to live
ht and healthy.
!nstead of dodging
hsts threatening to
pound your face,
you have to escape
the blows of fast food, bad habits, laziness and poor
self esteem. Like the Team Nax hghters featured in
this issue, you have to prepare and discipline yourself
and learn the necessary strategies to come out on top
every time. We want to help show you the way.
!f you care about yourself and want to have a hghting
chance, hip through the pages of this magazine and
glean everything you can. Discover hve medication
mistakes people make that can cause you harm - or
even death (pgs. 18-20). !f you're dealing with angry
inhammation, learn about foods and supplements
that combat it (pgs. ++-+6). !f you're bored with your
training sessions or would like to train like a hghter,
then you must try the killer workout from Nuay Thai
expert Norgan Tran (also this month's cover model)
on pages 22-25.
Recent studies show + out of 10 Americans are
obese. And that's not even counting those who are
overweight. This is a battle my friends. We are at war.
Our hght against fat begins with ourselves. We can't
blame anyone or anything else if we can't ht into our
clothes or we get heart disease after years of being
sedentary and eating fried fatty foods. We must hght
back!
To get inspired from someone who used to be
an obesity statistic, just look at Nax Nuscle's 2011
NaxForm Life Challenge champion, Don Dona! His
column this month is all about how he continues to
soldier on by setting new goals and creating new
challenges (pg. 26). For additional inspiration, read
through the Feedback section on pages 12-13 to hnd
out about everyday people such as yourself who are
winning the hght. !f you want more, log onto Nax
Nuscle's online community (NyNaxNuscle.com) and
get inspired by people who are taking back their lives
and feeling better than they've ever felt!
You have the right to hght for a ht and healthy
lifestyle. Be great! Be tough! Fight back!

MAX MUSCLE'S 2TX
has men in their 30s, 40s,
50s and even 60s all over
the country raving about
how this product is making
them feel young again. It
seems like every time I
see the guys I coach with
or know in the community,
they are always asking me
about this 2TX supplement
they keep hearing about
that will make them feel like they did in high school! 2TX has
literally become a life saver for them.
Steve Wright played professional football for 12 years. He played
on the defensive line so he was big and he was strong and he was
XVHG WR JKWLQJ IRU HYHU\ GRZQ HYHU\ TXDUWHU HYHU\ JDPH IRU
more than a decade of his life. He was as tough as it gets.
As Steve got older, he started to slow down like all men do as
they age. He remembers it being a gradual thing, but then one
day he woke up and just couldnt believe how little energy he had
and how he just didnt feel like training or really doing anything
anymore. 2TX became his game-changer. He now feels like he did
back when he was playing professional football. He cant believe
the energy that he has now and he cant wait to tackle life each
GD\MXVWOLNHKHXVHGWRWDFNOHRSSRVLQJSOD\HUVRQWKHHOG
Ron Cummings has a similar story. He was exercising, eating
right and living a healthy life, but he just felt in his words, spent
all of the time. How many of us older guys can relate to that? After
a few weeks of using 2TX, he couldnt believe the difference that it
made in every aspect of his life. At 52, Ron says he now feels like
he used to in his 20s. He says he owes it all to 2TX and what he
calls the 'Super 50 Plan!'
If you feel like these guys used to and this letter isnt enough
to motivate you to give 2TX a try for yourself, I dont know what
will! I know 2TX works. Im in my 40s now and I
have been using it for that last two years. I really
believe that I wouldnt have the quality of life
that I do now without it.
When I hear guys complain about lacking
energy and having a hard time mustering up the
strength to get through their day or exercise,
I think to myself that Im glad I dont feel that
way; what a lousy way to go through life! I also
think to myself, 'Wow, Im glad I have 2TX!'

During sleep, catabolic processes take place in our bodies, which
minimize the positive effect of training.
MAX ZMA promotes the secretion of anabolic hormones, thus
assisting your body to increase muscle repair, reduce fatigue, and
replenish your body with essential nutrients.
By combining zinc, magnesium, and vitamin B-6, MAX ZMA also
boosts your bodys production of testosterone, which not only helps
your body heal itself during rest, but also promotes a refreshing and
thorough sleep.
A breakthrough study at Western Washington University has found zinc
monomethionine may be absorbed better than other forms of zinc and
improves zinc levels without adversely affecting copper levels (Brilla and
Conte, 1999)*.

Troy Hall (member ID: thall24), 40, of
Huntington Beach, Calif. joined the 2011
MaxForm Life Challenge on Jan. 4, 2011. He
lost 49.5 pounds and gained a better life and
new friends via MyMaxMuscle.com, Max
Muscle's online community for everyday
people who want to get in great shape and feel
great. Troy is an avid user of MyMaxMuscle,
often logging in about six times a day to post
journals and encourage others. We caught up
with him while he was vacationing with his
family to ask him a few questions:
Q: How did you nd out about
MyMaxMuscle & the MaxForm contest?
A: I belong to Golds Gym in Huntington
Beach. I picked up the January 2011 issue of
MS&F, leafed through it and decided to join the
MaxForm contest. I logged onto MyMaxMuscle
the same day I started the contest.
Q: How much weight have you lost since
the competition?
A: I've been steady but have dropped more
body fat Actually, its not what Ive lost,
but what Ive been able to do: running 5Ks,
running the Mud Run, playing in a basketball
league and working out twice a day. It's been a
complete lifestyle change.
Q: What is your top tip to share with those
competing in this year's MaxForm contest?
A: This is something I live by: plan your work
and work your plan. I say that all the time to
people.
True Inspiration
(Shared by Parker Cote, who was featured in the January
2012 issue of MS&F, with permission from Chris Mai.)
Hi Parker! You have been a huge
inspiration to me with your body
transformation! I've always been the small
guy in high school and up until now, I've
always weighed about 140 pounds on
a good day. Recently, I nally got sick of
my skin and bones physique and decided
to change. I went into Max Muscle and
bought my pre-workout BCAA's and post-
workout protein. When I went to check
out, I received a magazine that featured
you in it. I saw your story and your "before"
picture and was amazed! You really gave
me that extra boost for the positive change
I wanted to make in my life! So far, after
5 months of hard work and eating right, I
have gained about 25 pounds and I look
pretty lean! But I just wanted to take the
time to tell you thank you for showing me
that it is possible to get to your level with
hard work and determination! My best
regards to you!
Chris Mai, 22, Missoula, Montana
Feeling Fantastic
Thanks Max Muscle. I would have never
achieved this body at my age without the

feel fantastic! This photo was taken during

Beware of Tick-Borne Disease If you live in the northeastern United States, you need to worry about
more than a sunburn when outdoors this spring and summer. According to Dr. Richard Ostfeld, a disease ecologist at the Cary Institute of
Ecosystem Studies in Millbrook, New York, there will be an upsurge in Lyme disease this year. Lyme disease is transmitted to humans through
the bite of infected black-legged ticks. Ticks actually prefer their blood meal from the white-footed mouse, but if populations of mice are down,
theyll feast on any mammal including us. Te mouse population has declined drastically due to a scarcity of acorns leaving humans at risk
for tick-borne disease, says Dr. Ostfeld. Untreated Lyme disease can result in problems with the joints, heart and nervous system. Te best way
to protect yourself is to avoid areas with high grass. If hiking, wear long pants and sleeves and walk in the center of the trail. You can also use
repellent that contains at least 20 percent DEET, the most common active ingredients in insect repellents. Afer coming indoors, check your
body for ticks. Tey are very small, about the size of a sesame seed, but become larger when engorged with blood. If you fnd a tick, remove it by
grasping it as close to the head as possible with tweezers, and pull it straight out. Report the bite to your doctor as soon as possible for diagnosis
and treatment. Lyme disease can be squashed by a short course of antibiotics. Learn more about Lyme disease at CDC.gov/lyme/.

Obesity & Sleep Aids
Obesity poses a signihcant risk of death related to prescription
sleeping pills such as Ambien and Restoril, especially among
young adults and men.
A recent study found that people with an average body
mass index of 38.8 had an 8.1 times greater chance of dying
when taking 18 or fewer sleeping pills a year compared to
those with similar age, gender and health who did not take
sleeping pills at all. Those who took 132 or more sleeping pills
per year had and average 9.3 percent chance higher of dying
than those who took no pills.
The study authors believe that their hndings are related to
the fact that those who are obese have a higher incidence of
sleep apnea, and sleeping pills are associated with more and
longer pauses in breathing in people with sleep apnea.
While more research is needed to conhrm these results,
it's a good idea for all of us - obese or not - to practice good
sleep habits rather than to rely upon sleeping pills to help us
sleep. These include keeping a regular bedtime and wake time
each day, relaxing for several hours prior to sleep, avoiding
caffeine, sugary or spicy food, and alcohol for at least + to
6 hours before bed, and making sure your bedroom is Tuiet,
cool and dark.
WHITE RICE = DIABETES 2?
If you like white rice, you may want to change to something else. Researchers from the
Harvard School of Public Health reviewed a variety of studies, all pointing to evidence
that those who have a high intake of white rice have a substantially higher risk of type 2
diabetes. This is especially true in Asian cultures, where the average person eats as many
as four servings of white rice daily.
Why might white rice be bad for you? Study authors say that it has a high glycemic
index (GI), meaning that it is digested and absorbed rapidly, resulting in uctuations in
your blood sugar levels. Foods with a lower GI (such as brown rice) are digested more
slowly and produce more gradual rises in the blood sugar. There is strong evidence that
the risk of diseases such as diabetes type 2 and coronary heart disease are linked to an
overall high glycemic level in your diet.
The upshot? Aim for foods lower on the glycemic index. And next time you order Asian
food, ask for brown rice with your entree. In addition to a lower GI, youll be getting
extra ber, magnesium and vitamins!

But she was having increasing trouble seeing

KNOW YOUR NUMBERS!
Medications are removed from your body by your liver and your kidneys, which is the reason you should
be aware of how well these organs are working, says Robert Gold, PhD, MBA, hospital pharmacist and
instructor of clinical pharmacy at Purdue University, who wrote consumer health book, Are Your Meds
Making You Sick?, out of concern for consumer safety (the book is available at Amazon.com). When these
ltration systems do not work as they should, drugs remain in the body for a longer period of time, which
then increases the likelihood of problematic reactions, says Dr. Gold.
Simple lab tests can determine whether your kidneys and liver are working well, he adds. Ask your doctor
about this testing, especially if you have a chronic condition that may affect the function of these organs,
such as diabetes, hypertension or liver disease.

Taking the wrong medication.
There are many reasons for taking the wrong medication, from being
distracted to getting up in the dark and reaching for the wrong pill bottle.
Medication mix-ups can happen at the pharmacy level, too, when a
pharmacist misinterprets an illegibly written doctor's order, especially because
there are many medications with names that are very similar. Also, some
medication mix-ups arent always entirely accidental many people share
their prescribed medications with other people, which may result in an injury.
How to prevent: Prevent medication errors at the pharmacy level by questioning
the pharmacist, advises Richard Kelley, MD, co-founder of Physicians Way,
a weight loss center in Austin, Texas. Always take the time to review any
medication you receive from a pharmacy with the pharmacist on duty. You may
have to wait on occasion, but it is in your best interest that you or your family
member receives the medication that was intended to treat the problem at hand.
Ask the pharmacist if the prescription is reasonable for the medical issue being
treated, he says.
When taking your pills, make sure that you read the name and the instructions
before taking, even if youve taken them many times before. Never take your pills
in the dark. And never, ever share your prescribed medications with others or take
anyone elses prescriptions! Your doctor writes a prescription with consideration

How many people, often celebrities,
do you hear about in the news who
have died because of mixing their
prescription meds? Actor Heath
Ledgers autopsy report says that he
died of acute intoxication brought
on by the combined effects of
several prescription medications,
including oxycodone (a narcotic
pain medication) and diazepam (a
sedative).
How to prevent: Prevent a tragedy

Crushing/breaking/chewing your medication.
Many pills are ingenious drug delivery systems in disguise, covered in
layers of coatings to ensure that medication is released slowly and in
strategic locations in your digestive tract, says Dr. Lewis. All of that
ingenuity is completely foiled if you chew or crush the pill. Instead
of sweet therapeutic relief, youll get an immediate and
potentially fatal release of medication into the body.
How to prevent: Swallow your pills whole, unless your
doctor tells you otherwise (for example, if youre tapering
down a medication and your doctor says you can break
the pill for a half dosage). If you have trouble swallowing
pills, ask your doctor or pharmacist if the medication comes

Over-the-counter medications, herbs

misleading because we think of
them as less harmful than their
prescription counterparts. Yet every
year, patients have to undergo

to haphazard combinations of
seemingly harmless herbals.

Taking diferent
products with the
same ingredient.
This is a very common mistake
among athletes who are being
treated for an injury, says Ruth M.
Parker, MD, Professor of Medicine
and Pediatrics at the Emory
University School of Medicine and
Professor of Epidemiology in the
School of Public Health. People
will see the doctor for pain and
theyre often prescribed a narcotic
that contains acetaminophen (a
common pain reliever). Then if
they still have pain after taking the
narcotic, theyll add an over-the-
counter medication that contains
acetaminophen, too. Taking too
much acetaminophen can cause
liver damage.
A similar problem exists with
non-steroidal anti-inammatory
medications, used for pain and
inammation, such as aspirin,
ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) and
naproxen (Aleve, Midol extended
relief). Using more than one
non-steroidal medication can
predispose you to kidney injury,
says Dr. Parker.

recognize that many products, both

never exceed the daily recommended
maximum of acetaminophen, which is

Then they need to do the math.

MAX CLEANSE & LEAN (MCL) offers a solution to
digestive issues as well as a way to remove excess water
and waste from the body. You work out hard to stay fit
and you want to see the results every day, thats what
MCL can help do. MCL addresses the water and bloating
that many of us hold just under our skin, in our hips, abs,
legs and feet. MCL helps naturally release this excess
fluid and flush it from the system to help drop weight
quickly and lean up. MCL also helps promote regularity,
which is essential to health. If youre backed up, MCL
will get you back on track and in the process help you to
lose unwanted pounds!
Assuming that if one dose is
good, two are beter.
Many people think that more is better if one dose of
pain relieving medication doesnt help enough, two will
do the trick. This can result in an overdose of medicine.
How to prevent: Medication should be taken in accordance
with the instructions the physician intended, warns Dr.
Lewis. Doubling medication or taking medications in
excess can lead to serious consequences. Dont assume
that because you dont feel an expected physical feeling
from a medication that the medication is not working. Ask
your doctor if you have any questions about the proper
dosing of your medication. MS&F
INCREASING MEDICATION LITERACY
Weve all seen the ad: A severely allergic (depressed,
asthmatic, constipated) person, previously rendered
housebound (immobile, in pain) due to symptoms, now
leaping through a eld of owers (cavorting on the
beach) freed by a certain prescription medication.
Typically, the side effects of the medication are minimized
by being read or ashed on the screen very rapidly.
Such direct-to-consumer (DTC) advertising of prescription
drugs, legal only in the United States and New Zealand,
has been controversial, to say the least. Pharmaceutical
companies contend that the ads, broadcast on TV and
radio, seen in magazines and newspapers, the Internet
and on billboards educate consumers and encourage
them to see their doctor for diagnosis and treatment.
Congressional leaders, worried about increased health
care costs, would like to regulate these ads and impose
laws to stop them because they think that its too much
information for consumers and too much pressure on
doctors to prescribe the meds being advertised. And some
doctors say that DTC advertising is dangerous, because
it involves only the newest medications, sometimes found
to have serious safety concerns only after consumers have
knowledge of and ask for the medication.
Opinions aside, theres no doubt that most people are
woefully illiterate when it comes to medications. And
it doesnt hurt to learn more about them, says Thomas
Giannulli, MS, MD, chief medical information ofcer at
Epocrates, a drug reference application used by many
physicians. The more informed, the better, says Dr.
Giannulli. I think its okay that people come in to the
doctor with an idea of what they want. If youre more
informed, you feel free to have a conversation with your
doctor, and youll have a better outcome. Its a win-win
situation.
There are many consumer-oriented drug reference
guides in print or online. One good choice is Medline
Plus, a service of the U.S. National Library of Medicine
and the National Institutes of Health, accessed at nlm.nih.
gov/medlineplus/druginformation.html.
And Epocrates is an application that can be downloaded
to your phone for free, says Dr. Giannulli. Its intended
for medical professionals, but its a useful tool for looking
up medications and learning more, he adds. MS&F

Train like a MUAY
THAI ghter with

K
nown as The Art of
Eight Limbs, Muay Thai
(translated Thai Boxing)
is a brutal stand-up
combative martial art that combines
punches, elbows, knees and kicks.
It originates from Southeast Asia,
particularly Thailand, and evolved
out of muay boran (ancient boxing),
an unarmed combat method used
by Siamese soldiers after they lost
their weapons in battle. Muay
Thai is an extremely effective
and practical martial art, and has
become increasingly popular with
the recent interest of MMA (Mixed
Martial Arts).
It is commonly said that ghters
are the ttest, and after competing
in numerous sports since childhood,
I will admit that I didnt hit my
peak as an athlete physically and
mentally until I stepped into the
ring to compete in Muay Thai.
When I train to be ring ready, I
know that its vital my cardio is
above my opponents, as cardio is
king when you step in the ring. I
have to be prepared to be quick,
explosive and powerful the entire
round for each round, which means
I train for endurance with bursts of
speed and power.
Remember, you dont have to be
a competitive ghter to train like
one!! Happy training!

BURPEE INTO ROUNDHOUSE KICKS (Rounds 1 and 4) Start with
feet shoulder-width apart, bend down and place hands on the ground. Kick feet
back so your body, from your head to your feet, is in alignment, abs tight. Avoid
arching or overextending your back. Bring feet back to your hands and stand
up. Perform a right roundhouse kick followed by a left roundhouse kick. For a
roundhouse kick, pivot the standing foot and stand tall on the ball of your foot,
rotate hips until they are perpendicular to the ground. The arm that is on the
same side as the standing leg should be tight against your ribs with hand close
to your face, ready for defense. The arm on the side of the kicking leg is used to
follow through for power as your hips rotate.
SHADOW BOXING
WITH HAND
WEIGHTS (Rounds
1 and 4) Recommended
2- to 5-pound hand
weights. Avoid using a
weight that will cause
you to compromise good
form. Shadow boxing
mimics punching a target
or bag by punching
the air. Continuous
jabs, cross, hooks and
uppercuts (see "Punch
It" on next page for how
to execute these moves).
Exhale on every punch.
ABS INTO
JAB-CROSS
(Rounds 2 and
4) Start in the
traditional sit-up
position. Come up,
twist to jab, then
twist the other
way to cross.
Come down and
repeat.
ABS WITH ELBOW STRIKES (Rounds 1, 3 and 5)
Start in the traditional sit-up position, bring the legs up to 90 degrees, lock
your ankles together and separate your knees. Crunch up and twist bringing
your elbow through the opening between your knees (this is called a spike
elbow). Come back down and do the same on the other side.

Punch It!
Jab: Done with the lead arm. As you punch, hand
should be in a st, leading with the knuckles of your
pointer and middle ngers. Extend arm with slight
bend (just less than 100 percent extension) to avoid
over-extension that leads to elbow injury. Pretend
there is a rubber band from your ribs to the point
of your elbow to enhance speed and sharpness,
extending and returning as quickly as possible.
While punching, be aware that power comes from
your entire body and rotation of the hips and not
entirely from arm strength. Abs are tight. Exhale
sharply at the point of impact, even when only
punching in the air. The hand that is not punching
should be up by your face, with st just under eye
level, and arm tight to the body.
Cross: Performed with the back arm, this is your
power punch, your knockout punch. It is vital to
pivot the back foot, hips and shoulders. Lead hand
is up by the face, with st just under eye-level and
arm tight to body.
Hooks: Either to the body or head level for a
target. Be sure to pivot foot, hips and shoulder. Power
comes from the body, not the arms alone. Other hand
is up by your face. Avoid swinging the arm.
Uppercuts: Target is chin level. Like the hooks,
be sure to pivot foot, hips and shoulder. Power comes
from the body, not the arms alone. Other hand is up
by your face. Avoid swinging the arm.
SQUAT INTO FRONT KICK (Rounds 2 and 5) With feet hip-width apart, squat
down as if youre sitting in a chair, being sure abs are tight, back is straight and knees dont

youre pushing something away from you, following through with the ball of your foot. Abs
should be tight. Left hand is up by your face, right hand follows through next to your right
leg (for power). Repeat the squat, then follow the same technique with your left leg, keeping
your right hand by your face and left arm follows through next to your left leg.

PROWORKOUT By Jaime Cash, IFBB Pro
ts time to build those legs in all the RIGHT places. Tear these
pages out and take them with you to the gym! This workout
will target the legs and glutes and help you shape the lower
half of the body. These are effective movements, but pay close
attention to perfecting your technique to get the muscles to respond
the way you want them. Get after it and dont forget your post-
workout supplements to promote the best recovery possible!
Grab heavy dumbbells (DBs). Tighten your core and keep spine
straight with eyes up. Step up onto bench and squeeze the glutes
and hamstrings as you gently tuck your pelvis under. Step back down with
opposite leg. Pro Tips: Step down onto your stance leg with a slight knee
bend to create constant working tension for both legs. Stepping up onto a
bench greater than 90-degree angle will isolate your glute muscle.
Take your DBs and rest them on a bench. Bend forward at a 90-degree
angle; keeping core tight. Swing leg back into a full straight leg
extension. Pro Tips: Squeeze you glutes and hamstrings at the top of the
motion and hold for 2-3 seconds. Try adding this leg extension as a super-set
with step-ups onto bench into week 3-4 of your training block.
Put a resistance band around your ankles or directly below your knees.
Squat down as low as you can go with arms up in front or at your
sides; keep core tight. Step out to the side in one direction for 20 reps. Stay
as low as you can go. Pro Tips: This is one of the best glute exercises you
can do and it will burn out your legs and glutes. Add this at the end of your
workout or add in as a super-set when you are doing an isolation exercise
such as leg extensions or hamstring
curls for extra burn!
Grab a barbell and gently place
on upper back; keep spine neutral.
Lunge forward, bringing front leg to
90-degree angle and back leg close
to ground. Keep your head up and
core tight. Push through your heel
as you assume full standing position.
Bring your opposite leg behind you
into full leg extension. Repeat as you
step forward with the opposite leg
into a forward lunge position. Pro

Tips: Keep a constant motion moving
forward while performing walking lunges.
Squeeze the glutes at the end range of
motion as you bring your leg into full
extension.
Stand upright at the Smith
Machine with shoulders back,
core tight and knees slightly bent. Lift
toes up slightly and put weight into
heels of feet. Bring bar below your
knees. Squeeze through the hamstrings
and glutes as you return to upright
position. Pro Tips: Try to put the
weight into the heels of the feet and
elevate the toes slightly to emphasize
the glutes/hamstrings and squeeze
the glutes as you come into standing
position.
With legs slightly shoulder-width

stable surface and weight into heels,
squat into deep squat position with legs
just below 90-degree angle. Push up
through your heels. Squeeze your glutes
from bottom to top as you return into
full standing position. Pro Tips: Dont
let your knees move past the tips of your
toes. If you have a back support, you
will be less likely to add thickness to your
waistline.
Prop yourself up on both elbows.
Contract your abs to keep low back from
arching. Separate your legs far apart to
the edge of the bolster and point toes
away from your ankles. Curl upward
towards your glutes. Contract hamstrings
at end range of motion. Slowly return to
start. Pro Tips: Dont allow your legs to
fully return to extended position. Keep
constant tension on the hamstrings
by keeping constant motion while
performing hamstring curl (Note: for
an added intensity technique, use a
controlled 3 second eccentric on all reps
with 2 second holds in the contracted
position.)
Hold onto bars to keep hips back
in seat, with legs in maximum

Bring legs into extended position,

quads at end of range of motion. Pro
Tips: Alternate between toes pointed
in, out or forward to isolate different
muscles in the quadriceps. Avoid being
explosive with your reps by using a slow,
controlled cadence.

Exercise Tips
1. Begin each exercise by adjusting the

2. Grasp the Grapple Grip securely with
your arms slightly bent.
3. Use the Grapple Grips rotating
feature to adjust your hands and
wrists to a comfortable angle.

abdominals.
5. Maintain bent arms throughout the
exercise sets.
6. Complete the full range of motion,
even if you need to reduce your
repetitions.
I
ts no secret that most combative
athletes such as boxers, wrestlers,
mixed martial arts (MMA) ghters
and grapplers are some of most t
people on the planet. Whether were
talking about their cardiovascular
condition, muscular endurance or
physique, these athletes are t and
ripped. Combative athletes are in
such great shape because of the
intense sport-specic training they
must endure to perform or compete
in their line of sport. Fortunately,
you dont have to be a combative
athlete to train like one. The
training methods and principals of a
combative athlete are those that can
benet individuals of all tness levels.
Some important focus areas of
training to a combative athlete are
grip strength and core strength. These
two areas can be benecial to all
athletes, combative or not. Benets
of grip strength can help you in the
gym or aid through common tasks
you might encounter in everyday
life, as well as helping develop strong
forearms as an added benet. When
you hear the word core, its not
all about a six-pack. Core strength
is important for everything from
sparring in a ring to correct posture.
You should spend time training your
core at least three times a week;
not just for the vanity benets, but
primarily for injury prevention and
performance benets.

driving 500 miles round trip every week. Its tough, especially
with a newborn daughter at home. But Flores knows he can
provide his family a better life by getting his career where he
wants. The ultimate goal is competing in the UFC.
This is my job and my life, Flores says. Its my passion
and I love it. MS&F
David Mulligan, franchisee of Max Muscle Marin. He is
the most driven and dedicated athletes I have ever met.
He is truly a rising star and will go far in all walks of life.
LIVING THE DREAM
Carlos Flores would say his journey in becoming a Mixed
0DUWLDO$UWV00$JKWHULVXQFRQYHQWLRQDODWEHVW+LV
isnt the groomed-from-childhood sports story. Nor is
it a tale of careful tutelage by prestigious instructors or
sought-after schools. In fact, the Yuma, Arizona native is
completely self-taught.
It all started one afternoon while Flores was sitting on
his couch watching TV. Hey, I can do that, he said to
himself while watching an Ultimate Fighter
Championship (UFC) match that fateful day
eight years ago. Once I made that decision,
I knew there was no turning back. I had to
do it.
So Flores got his hands on any and every
YLGHR KH FRXOG QG RQ 00$ +H ERXJKW
hundreds of magazines and books. He
studied for hours, burning the midnight oil
and burning through more than 3,000 DVDs.
People told me, Youre crazy, you cant do
this, youre too old, and it made me want to
do it more, Flores, 37, says. As a kid, my
dad used to tell me, Theres people who think
they can do something, people who say they
can do something, and people who just do it. Which one
are you going to be? If you believe you can do it, then you
can. Theres nothing in this life you cant achieve.
When Flores was 8 years old, he was encouraged by
his father (a professional boxer) to step into the ring. But
Flores couldnt stand getting punched in the face. So he
quit and opted for wrestling, becoming a city champ in
junior high and high school. Then life and its responsibilities
took over, as they so often do, and Flores found himself
working 12 to 13 hour shifts at his parents tortilla factory and
bartending on the side. He took up power lifting as a hobby, but

was 29. Looking up to UFC legend Tito Ortiz, Flores decided
one day to reach out to his idol. I was on Twitter and told him,
Youre my inspiration and I would love to train with you. It would
be an honor, Flores says. I wasnt expecting a reply, but he
got back to me within an hour and invited me to his gym in
Huntington Beach.
Flores made the trip to Punishment Training Center in
Southern California last September, got mat time with Ortiz, and
ended up trying out for Team Punishment, Ortizs MMA team.
Today, Team Punishment sponsored Flores. Its a dream come
true, Flores says.

over medium high heat and add olive
oil. Heat oil until hot, but not smoking.
Add onion and saut for 1 minute. Add
red bell pepper, cooked quinoa and diced
asparagus. Stir to combine.
4. Pour egg mixture over the onion
mixture and stir lightly just to combine.
Turn heat to medium and cook egg
mixture until sides are setting and
middle is slightly jiggly. Transfer skillet
to broiler and broil for about 1 to 2
minutes, or until middle is set but top
is NOT burned. (Pay attention when
broiling so you cook the top and middle
but dont burn).
5. Remove from broiler. Take a butter
knife and loosen the edges around the
frittata. Turn out onto a serving plate.
Slice into 6-8 slices and serve warm.

nhammation is the body's natural
response to an injury or infection
caused by anything from allergies
and toxins to a virus or blunt injury.
Common types of inhammation plaguing
individuals in combat and impact sports
or extremely physical training regimens
include acute inhammation as a result of a
physical injury or trauma; low-grade chronic
inhammation caused by stress within the
body as a reaction to an environmental
trigger; and chronic inhammation as a result
of an injury that never healed completely or
properly.
Depending on the site and cause of
damage, the response is slightly different.
But ultimately, the body calls on immune
cells to begin hghting the injury by
destroying cells and repairing damage at the
site of invasion. !nhammation may be better
understood when viewed as an immune
response.
The immune response is Tuite simple.
Damaged cells release histamine, bradykinin
and prostaglandins. These cause surrounding
tissues to be inhabited by huid, which leaks
from blood vessels. The result is swelling,
which helps contain the infection during the
healing process. White blood cells are drawn
to the site and begin consuming the invading
cells. This process is called phagocytosis.
While there are many physical treatments
that address the result of inhammation in
the body, this article will focus primarily on
nutrition. We'll take a look at the top foods
that hght inhammation as well as foods that
contribute to it.
VITALNUTRITION By Alissa Carpio
Other Ways to Fight Inflammation
Therapy - For chronic pain, old injuries and scar tissue, consider non-
invasive treatments. Dr. Todd 6ullivan, DC, of 1O9A Chiropractic 8 Wellness
points out that Foam rolling, Active Release TechniTues and Graston
TechniTue are also great muscle therapies to reduce tissue inhammation."
Flexibility - By engaging in regular, structured stretching programs, your
body maintains better balance among opposing muscle groups, greatly
reducing your risk of injury in the hrst place.
Icing - Dr. 6ullivan also recommends icing for 10 to 15 minutes at a time,
allowing the muscle to come back to room temperature before repeating for
a total of four cycles.
Compression Apparel - Clothing such as socks, tights and shirts, and
ergogenic aids including wraps and braces can help, too. Dr. 6ullivan adds,
Compression clothing improves circulation and reduces swelling."

Nuts and Seeds
Choose types that have higher amounts of omega-3 versus
omega-6 fats. Pumpkin seeds and ax seeds are among the
highest omega 3-rich seeds, while walnuts and macadamia
are great nut sources for omega-3. By eating 1 oz. of nuts
or seeds a day, you will also enjoy the benets of reduced
risk for chronic disease and illness. Nuts and seeds also
add protein and ber to the diet, helping with feelings of
fullness and satisfaction, and aiding in weight management.
Eat a handful of nuts for a snack, and add seeds to
oatmeal, stir-fry dishes or fresh salads.
Ginger and Turmeric
These tasty spices help ght off attacks by ingredients
called gingerols and curcumin, respectively. Turmeric
produces a mild, spicy avor and a bright yellow color
and pairs well with cinnamon and cumin. It tastes great on
cooked squash, brown rice or quinoa, or on poultry as part
of a tagine-style dish. Fresh ginger can be added to any-
thing from stir-fry meat and vegetables to hot tea.
Onions and Garlic
These super meal enhancers boast nutritional
benets to boot. They contain quercetin, an
antioxidant that ghts inammation. Cook your
meats and vegetables with some chopped
onion and minced garlic. Add raw onion to
fresh salads. Onion and garlic are also great
added to soups, stews and slow cooker dishes.
Oily Fish
Salmon, sardines, mackerel, trout, herring and
tuna are rich in omega-3 fats, which are known
inammation ghters. In general, wild caught sh
is healthier than farm raised. Farm raised sh have
been given antibiotics, contain 10-15 percent more
fat versus protein, and have more omega-6 and less
omega-3 fatty acids. Add oily sh to your diet twice a
week. Pregnant or nursing women should avoid King
mackerel due to its high mercury content.
Cultured or Fermented Foods
The most common examples are plain
yogurt and ker. Other foods fermented
by the probiotic group lactobacilli include
sauerkraut, pickles and kimchi. However,
most commercially prepared versions
of these foods are not lacto-fermented
and have been prepared with vinegar
instead. Look for versions that specically
say they have been made through lacto-
fermentation to make sure youre getting
these good bacteria aplenty. Or, opt for
making your own yogurt or sauerkraut.
These powerhouse bacteria provide many
benets to the body, and chief among them
is boosting the immune system and ghting
inammation. They also allow the vitamins
and nutrients from the foods you eat to be
better digested and utilized by the body.
These foods should be eaten every day,
preferably multiple times a day, for the
most benet.
Honorable Mentions: Apples (contain quercetin), broccoli (high amounts of vitamin C, folate and beta
carotene) and cranberries (rich in antioxidants).

Highly-Allergenic Foods
Some individuals, due to weak immune systems, nutrient deciencies, low stomach acid,
lack of benecial bacteria, or other reasons, are allergic or intolerant to foods that most
people can easily digest and enjoy on a regular basis. The most common among these
are wheat and other grains containing the protein gluten, dairy due to the protein, casein,
or the milk sugar, lactose; soy, corn, nuts and eggs. If you suspect food intolerance, the
best course of action is to try a food elimination diet for two weeks. Upon reintroduction
of each food one at a time, it should be fairly easy to tell if you have a reaction to it.
Reactions will include allergy and immune type responses. Keep a food diary, see how
you feel, note your mood and digestive system health.
Food Additives
This includes trans-fats, aspartame, MSG,
sultes, nitrates, articial colorings and
preservatives. Processed foods,
restaurant and fast foods are the
worst sources of food additives.
Avoid or limit dining out to once
a week or less. Create your own
home-cooked versions of your favorites,
such as sesame chicken and pizza. Choose
breakfast and processed meats that are
natural, uncured and do not contain
hormones, antibiotics or nitrates/nitrites.
Commercially-Raised Meat
All grocery-store and restaurant meats, unless
otherwise specied, come from animals fed a
diet high in omega-6 grains and feed. They also
contain toxins in the form of pesticides, hormones
and antibiotics. While pricey, your best bet is to
acquire a source for grass-fed, farm raised meat,
poultry and eggs. Check your local farmers
market or visit EatWild.com.
Polyunsaturated Fats (PUFAs)
Because these fats are unsaturated, many people
think theyre healthier options. However, PUFAs
(found in vegetable, grape seed, safower and
sunower oils) are extremely high in omega-6
but nearly void of omega-3, a combination that
promotes inammation and breeds inammatory
diseases. The weak and vulnerable structure of
PUFAs makes them susceptible to structural changes
through hydrogenation, processing and cooking.
Even extra virgin olive oil is susceptible to heat
damage during cooking. When these fats get oxidized,
they prohibit inammation and have been linked to various chronic
diseases, including cancer. The best fats for cooking are stable and
saturated, such as coconut oil, butter or ghee and animal fats.
Refined Sugars
As if there needed to be another reason to
avoid sugar, here it is. Sugars contribute to
inammation in a major way. Non-sweet
foods that cause a high insulin response
cause inammation, too. So in addition to
rened sugars and high-sugar sweeteners, be
careful of eating high-glycemic foods such
as processed and rened grains, high-starch
vegetables and potatoes. Read food labels
to be sure youre not getting them from
a hidden source. Instead, opt for lower-
glycemic, natural sweeteners like raw honey
and Stevia.
Misdemeanor Offenders: Alcohol (irritates esophagus, larynx and liver and can lead to cancer) and red meat
(some people are sensitive to high amounts of arachidonic acid, a fatty acid rich in red meat).

There are a wide variety of proteins ingredients that we use
in our protein products including; whey proteins, casein
proteins, milk proteins, egg proteins and soy proteins.
Protein stimulates muscle growth and recovery and is an
important nutrient to help build lean muscle and improve
body strength. There are two major proteins found in milk
which are the whey proteins (20%) and casein proteins
(80%). Clearly, for the bodybuilding and sports enthusiast
whey proteins are the undisputed king. Most popular are
whey protein concentrates (WPC) and whey protein
isolates (WPI). Whey protein isolates absorb rapidly at
around 30 minutes or less while whey protein concen-
trates absorb at up to 60 minutes. Both are considered
fast-acting which makes them ideal for pre- and
post-workout drinks. Casein on the other hand absorbs
much slower at about 4 hours making it a slow-acting
protein and ideal for before bedtime or for long periods
without eating.
Understanding the Key Features and
Benefits of MAXPRO
MAXPRO has been the number one selling protein for
Max Muscle Sports Nutrition for over 20 years. MAXPRO
is specially formulated with a proprietary Super Protein
Concentrate (SPC) developed to supply your body with
pure high-quality proteins to be used on a daily basis. The
SPC is our proprietary multi-source blend of whey
protein concentrate (WPC), whey protein isolate (WPI) and
potassium caseinate. The WPC is termed WPC80 since it
is composed of 80% protein by weight. The WPI is
termed WPI90 since it is composed of a minimum on 90%
protein by weight. The remainder percentages are sugar
(lactose), vitamins, minerals and fat. This unique blend of
whey and casein proteins includes long, intermediate and
short chain peptides comprised of all nine essential and
eleven non-essential amino acids necessary for protein
synthesis. The WPC80 in MAXPRO

is purified by a
process of ultra filtration and ion exchange chromatogra-
phy. This fraction is rich in the whey proteins including
their percentages; beta-lactoglobulin (65%), alpha-
lactoglobulin (25%), serum albumin (8%), immunoglobu-
lins IgG, IgA and IgM, glycomacropeptides, lactoferrin,
lactoperoxidase and lysozyme. These fractions are of
immunological, digestive and nutritional importance. The
WPI is produced by further purification using a gentle
cross-flow microfiltration/ultra filtration process to yield
one of the purest and highly concentrated proteins. This
process yields a WPI that is un-denatured or intact
retaining all the beneficial sub-fractions in their natural
ratios. As you can see from the Typical Amino Acid Profile
of WPC Chart, whey proteins are complete proteins
containing all of the essential amino acids that cannot be
synthesized in the body. In fact, the amino acid profile
(proportions and ratios) found in whey is almost identical
to that of skeletal muscle. Simply put, MAXPRO is the
perfect protein for muscle.
Methods of Measuring Protein Quality
There are several valid and reliable methods for evaluating
the quality of a protein. These include the Protein Digest-
ibility Corrected Amino Acid Score (PDCAAS), Protein
Efficiency Ratio (PER) and Protein Digestibility (PD). The
PDCAAS is the current most widely accepted measure of
protein quality as it closely compares to determinations
done with animals. The PER is a measure of the ability of
a protein to support the growth of a young rat represent-
ing the weight gain to the amount of protein consumed.
Researchers define PD as the amount of protein absorbed
into the body relative to the amount that is consumed.
As shown on the Protein Quality Comparison Chart, whey
protein and casein rank highest in the PDCAAS and the
PD making it a superior quality protein for humans.
The WPC, WPI and casein protein fractions found in
MAXPRO are of the highest quality and digestibility and
that is why we specifically select them for the product. An
additional benefit is how well they mix and taste. WPC
and WPI are fast-acting proteins while the casein fraction
is more sustained giving you the advantage of multi-
source proteins for nutrient timing while still delivering the
same high quality. Research suggests that by supplying
the body with high-quality protein every 3 to 4 hours, it is
possible to elevate nitrogen levels and increase the body's
ability to build and maintain muscle growth. Research has
also shown that this anabolic effect is enhanced when
combined with resistance exercise.
MAXPRO Provides a Convenient
30 grams Protein per Serving!
Many of our customers take between 30 to 60 grams of
protein per serving depending on their body weight and
other requirements. By providing a convenient 30 grams
protein per serving, it is easy to calculate exactly how
much protein you are consuming to meet your protein
requirements per day. Additionally, supplementation with
protein 30 to 40 minutes before and 30 to 40 minutes
immediately after strength training results in greater
increases in lean body mass, strength, and muscle size
beyond that achieved by strength training alone.
Mechanisms of the Anabolic Effect of
MAXPRO Whey Protein and BCAA
The three sources of synergistic proteins in MAXPRO
are designed to optimize positive nitrogen balance and
promote lean muscle mass gains. These protein sources
are also uniquely rich in the naturally occurring branched-
chain amino acids (BCAAs) including leucine, isoleucine
and valine as seen in the
Typical Amino Acid
Profile of WPC Chart.
The BCAAs, especially
leucine, have powerful
anabolic effects on
protein metabolism by
increasing the rate of
protein synthesis,
decreasing the rate of
protein degradation
and promote recovery.
The anabolic effects of
both whey protein and
the BCAAs, combined
with exercise, stimulate
skeletal muscle growth
at the gene level.
Muscle protein
synthesis (MPS) is a
complex process and
involves transcriptional co-regulators, myogenic regulatory
factors and the phosphorylation of the mammalian target
of rapamycin (mTOR). Myogenic regulatory factors or
MRFs include Myo-D, myogenin, MRF-4 and myf5 and are
a family of muscle-specific transcription factors that play a
critical role in muscle cell hypertrophy (increases in muscle
cell size). Muscle mTOR is the master controller of protein
synthesis integrating signals from growth factors within
the parameters of the energy and nutritional conditions of
the cell. Muscle mTOR are muscle enzyme activators of
protein synthesis and supported by whey protein and the
branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs), especially leucine
and exercise. The positive effect of supplying whey
proteins rich in the BCAAs are mediated through signaling
pathways controlling protein synthesis involves phos-
phorylation of the target enzymes mTOR and the sequen-
tial stimulation of p70 ribosomal S6 kinase (p70 S6K)
through the regulation of mRNA translation and other cell
growth-related responses. The mTOR pathway in muscle
is upregulated during the hypertrophy phase.
Research Supports MAXPRO for
Weight Loss
We generally do not consider whey protein as an effective
weight loss supplement, but newly published research has
shown the benefits of whey protein for weight loss and
reduced fat-to-lean tissue loss (body recomposition).
Healthy overweight and obese subjects participated in the
double-blind, randomized clinical trial ingesting a whey
protein shake twice daily for 23 weeks. Participants were
provided no dietary advice and continued to consume
their free-choice diets throughout the study period. At the
end of the 23 weeks, subjects in the whey protein group
lost statistically significantly more body weight, fat free
mass and waist circumference compared to the other
groups consuming a similar soy protein or an isoenergetic
amount of carbohydrate (placebo).
Benefits of Naturally Occurring Glutamine
MAXPRO also provides a rich source of the naturally
occurring amino glutamine. Glutamine is considered a
workhorse amino acid and the most abundant amino
acid within the body and
concentrated in skeletal
muscle. Glutamine is
often depleted due to
over training, stress and
poor diet. Research
indicates that body
builders, fitness and
other active individuals
often do not produce
enough glutamine
within their liver to
restore critical gluta-
mine levels within a
reasonable time frame
following training.
Glutamine is critical to
minimize muscle
breakdown, remove
excess ammonia (a
common waste product
in the body) and repair heavily trained muscles. Glutamine
also supports immune function, brain function and the
natural production of human growth hormone, which is also
important to muscle recovery and gains.
MAXPRO Promotes Positive Nitrogen
Balance and a Positive Anabolic State
Research shows that a continuous intake of protein
throughout the day is the most effective way to maintain
positive nitrogen balance and a positive anabolic state.
MAXPRO can easily be incorporated into your daily
routine and would be effective before exercise, during
exercise, after exercise, in between-meals and as a
bedtime supplement. This continuous flow of calories and
protein helps to saturate your muscles with fuel and amino
acids for optimal protein synthesis.
Commitment to Quality
At Max Muscle Sports Nutrition we
focus on quality first and are absolutely
committed to providing the best possible
product for our customers. We are experts
at making science-based formulations, espe- cially
protein powders, and have been successfully doing so for
over 20 years. With the vast amount of protein supple-
ments in the marketplace its hard to know which ones are
of the best quality and worth the price. You have all heard
of the saying you get what you pay for and this is so true
with MAXPRO. At MMSN, we work hard to provide our

valued customers with the best value for your money as
thats what you expect and deserve.
There are many behind the scenes factors that affect
quality. Our focus on quality begins with our commitment
to sourcing, purchasing and controlling raw materials
followed by a carefully controlled and government
compliant manufacturing process and finally delivery to
our stores. MMSNs Quality Assurance and Quality
Control Unit adhere to comprehensive and thorough
process specifications and controls to provide you with
the highest quality protein supplement. The first quality
control step is to obtain material ingredient Certificate of
Analysis (COA) on each raw material ordered. Raw
materials are tested for identity and purity using current
valid and reliable test methods for active ingredients and
the presence of contaminants. Testing for microbiological
contamination (e.g., pathogens, yeast, and mold) toxins
(e.g., dioxins and PCBs) and heavy metals (e.g., lead,
mercury, cadmium and arsenic) are also performed. The
second quality control step is to obtain Material Safety
Data Sheets (MSDS) that supports the safety of the
ingredient for humans. We ensure that ingredients we use
are the highest quality and microbiologically and chemi-
cally safe for our demanding customers. MMSN sources
our protein raw materials for MAXPRO

from leading and

well established companies located only in the U.S. We do
not buy protein powder from China. We only use contract
manufacturers located in Southern California to blend and
fill our protein powders that adhere to strict and current
Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) compliant with FDA
(21 CFR 111) and USDA regulations. Adhering to these
control procedures ensure that MMSN's products are safe,
pure and meet the purported label claims. This means that
what you see on the label in the Supplement Facts panel is
what you will find
in the bottle.
Containers used for MAXPRO, in addition to all our proteins,
are manufactured to USA and European Union cGMP
standards and tested to be contaminant-free of bisphenol A
(BPA), phthalates, polycarbonated biphenyls (PCBs) and
dioxins. BPA and phthalates are industrial chemicals used to
make certain polycarbonate plastic containers. PCBs and
dioxins are environmental contaminants.
MAXPRO Claims are Truthful and
Non-Misleading
In October 1994, an amendment to the Federal Food Drug
and Cosmetic Act was signed into law called the Dietary
Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA). DSHEA
requires that all dietary supplements possess a Supple-
ment Facts panel on the product label. Ingredients and
quantities must be listed in descending order based on
weight and what is claimed on the label is actually found in
the bottle at 100% of the claim. Unfortunately, there are
companies in the dietary supplement industry that do not
follow this law either intentionally or unintentionally and
their listed ingredients do not meet what is claimed. The
FDA technically considers a product that does not meet
label claim for protein, or any other ingredient for that
matter, misbranded as it provides false and misleading
information to the consumer. In fact, at MMSN we
routinely test third party protein supplements and have
found products with severely sub-potent levels of total
protein or products that call themselves whey protein
isolate when, in fact, the protein in the product is a whey
protein concentrate or a lower grade protein. At MMSN,
we test our protein powders by independent laboratories
to verify label claim. As you can see by the sample
Michelson Laboratories, Inc. Report, MAXPRO
meets
100% of label claim. This means that if the label states in
the Supplement Facts panel 30 grams of protein per
serving you are getting this amount. We guarantee it!
MAXPRO is a Great Value!
Lets say you are comparing MAXPRO

to other third
party products. You may be asking about total price,
number of servings per container, price per serving,
amount of protein per serving and taste. Taste is very
subjective, if you have a hundred different people try
something, most often youll get a hundred different
responses to how it tastes. One thing is for certain, you
dont sell millions of containers of protein powder over
nearly a twenty year time-span if the products dont taste
good enough to want to use on a consistent basis.
Thousands of satisfied customers have praised MAXPRO

as not only being the highest in quality but also rate them
highest in taste. MMSNs Product Development team
spends a tremendous amount of time in the research and
development phase coming up with the richest and most
satisfying mouth feel and taste profile compared to the
overall percentage of protein in the overall product. Very
often, a new customer that has been using a third party
protein in the past will try MAXPRO

and immediately
notice a significant difference in terms of how they
feel, both from a strength and recovery standpoint.
After a few weeks, the results speak for themselves
and this customer now realizes that quality does
make a difference and not all proteins are created
equal. In terms of price, it is important that you
take into consideration the serving size, number of

outlets and can be found on the internet. You may
think that you are getting a better value for your
money, but in fact when you break down the
actual amount of protein you are digesting based
on your bodys ability to assimilate an inferior
protein, often times you end up paying more for
that net amount of protein that your body can
actually benefit from, then had you chosen the
higher-quality protein option.
With MAXPRO You Are Getting
What You Pay For
To reiterate, you have many choices for proteins
supplements and MMSN understands that you
want to get the very best value for your money.
Make sure though you dont mistake value with
the retail price of the protein powder you are
choosing. Sure you may be able to find a protein
powder for less; MMSN does not claim to nor
strive to be the least expensive protein powder on
the market. What we do strive to do is deliver the
very best protein powder at the most competitive
pricing; this is the true meaning of value. With a MMSN
product you can be assured that you are getting the
highest quality product available designed to exceed your
performance expectations. We source the best proteins
available in the marketplace and only from U.S. compa-
nies. As part of our quality assurance and quality control
program, the proteins go through exhaustive testing to
make sure their purity meets our demanding standards.
Additionally, the proteins are blended and filled in federally
compliant cGMP facilities. We are passionate about our
proteins because we know our customers are passionate
about getting results. We will never cut corners to sell you
a cheap protein product. As our QIG states, we guarantee
the quality of each and every protein supplement we
make. Do your bodys engine a favor, and dont ever settle
for less.

Are Max Muscle's 2Tx,
Quadra Cuts (QC) products
and other thermogenenics
contraindicated for someone on
blood pressure medications?
Michele Cato, MMSN Franchisee;
Arlington/Falls Church & Fairfax,
Virginia
I don't see any ingredient in 2Tx
that would be contraindicated
with blood pressure medications.
However, there are many differ-
ent classes used to treat hypertension, so
I cannot give a direct answer here. I would
be careful with QC Competition and QC
Extreme due to the caffeine content. QC
Thyroid and QC Night-Time should be OK.
Not sure which products you are referring
to by other thermogenics, but its always
best for the customer to show the product
data sheet to their doctor or pharmacist to
make sure its safe.
How do I take Amino Max

Amino Max is a complete amino
acid complex delivered in easy-
to-swallow capsules. It contains
all 20 amino acids, including all
nine essential amino acids necessary for
our body to make proteins and supports
the post-exercise muscle recovery win-
dow. An advantage of using Amino Max
is that capsules are convenient and can be
taken anytime during the day. Amino Max
can be taken before exercise, during ex-

Why does the container

Doesnt make sense given theres
caffeine in Full Blown Extreme

We sell our creatine products

Kre-Alkalyn as pure creatine
for those interested in creatine
loading and maintenance applications.
We purposely did not add caffeine to
these products to limit their use and
to keep them as versatile as possible.
Adding caffeine would limit their use as
some individuals do not want caffeine
with their creatine. Additionally, there

caffeine counteracts the ergogenic ef-
fectiveness of muscle creatine loading
and water retention especially in high
caffeine doses (Vandenberghe K, et

we state this on the label for creatine
monohydrate.
On the other hand, Full Blown Ex-
treme (FBX) is positioned as a pre-
workout product and we added a
modest amount of caffeine (176 mg/
serving) since many individuals want

By Brian Bullman BSc.
Being 250 lbs. and shredded wasnt
enough for me. I wanted to be able to not
only surpass my levels of hypertrophy but
also help others do the same.
Manfred Petautschnig,
IFBB PRO, AUSTRIA
THE MAN BEHIND THE REVOLUTIONARY
MAX 3 STAGE SYSTEM!
For years athletes in the west have looked on enviously at
their Eastern European counter parts when it came to
competition. Their athletes were dominating not only on the
Olympic stage but also in strength sports and even
bodybuilding, after all the great Arnold Schwarzenegger, a
former seven time winner of the Mr. Olympia title was from
Eastern Europe.
One of these Eastern European athletes discovered by
Max Muscle was IFBB Pro Manfred Petautschnig, weighing
in at over 250lbs SHREDDED just wasnt enough for the
Austrian native, he needed to research and develop a
technique that would help him surpass his already
amazing levels of hypertrophy, but more importantly he
wanted to be able to help others to do the same. His
research led him to our scientifically advanced products
and he combined them with the training pricnciple of
maximum volume overload GIANT SETS!
After the fall of the Iron Curtain many of the secrets
became known to us here in the west, as coaches and
athletes alike defected in order to escape the clutches or
communism. They took up roles in the west as coaches
and doctors and our athletes once again began to
dominate in international athletic competition.
No more was sport something that was merely a past
time, no more was it up to the coach, who was most
likely merely a former athlete, to get what he can out of
an athlete by pushing them physically as far as they could
go. Now we too had scientists dedicated to increasing
athletic performance. Experimenting in fields such
biomechanics, sports psychology and of course
exercise physiology.
This new field of sport science became so successful that
we now have institutes dedicated to athletic performance.
In one of these Sport Science institutes in Eastern Europe
MM Sports Nutrition discovered a bodybuilder who
displayed amazing levels of muscular hypertrophy and vascular-
ity levels that were normally reserved for the FREAKS of body-
building such as Ronnie Coleman and Dorian Yates.
When I asked Manfred how he managed to maintain such
extreme pumps and full vascular looking muscles, he told me
that it was simple really, he broke down the workout from
preparation to the actual workout and finally post workout
recovery. He realized that the most critical point
in his workout to infuse nutrients was that of maximum hyperae-
mia which is defined as an excessive accumulation of blood in
a part of the body in other words THE PUMP!
He went on to say I thought to myself when this blood wave
hits, I need to have MAXIMUM nutrients surfing that wave to the
muscles engorging it with muscle building amino acids.
This infusion of amino acids creates an inflated state of Muscle
Protein Synthesis (MPS) however; this blood wave that you have
saturated with nutrients can be turned into a muscle building
tsunami simply by maximizing your pre-workout preparation,
the workout itself and your post workout recovery. It seemed
that we really were looking at a 3 stage system that would
elevate your muscle building and strength gain into the strato-
sphere! So with this theory in mind, Manfred set about creating
the Max Muscle 3 Stage System, a combination of MM Sports
Nutritions scientifically advanced formulas and the hyperaemia
inducing workout principle of Giant Sets, which allows one to
push every drop of blood possible into the muscle!

20 minutes prior to workout drink one serving of FBX and
PRO BCAA. This pre-workout supplement combination
primes your body for the grueling workout you have ahead
of you. FBXs unique Max Volumizing Matrix creates that
tsunami effect as it increases blood flow dramatically
allowing PRO BCAA to surf that wave creating unbridled
levels of MPS. Its patented Energy & Focus Complex creates
that mental awareness and drive to push through the wall.
During your workout the rate of MPS is increased dramati-
cally, to further drive the rate of MPS we can introduce yet
another anabolic agent by way of Amino Acid Infusion. We
do this by sipping MAX PRO BCAA as we work out, with
more than 11g of branch chain amino acids per serving we
have dosed this formula just right to not only prevent
catabolism caused by training but also to further stimulate
Muscle Protein Synthesis.
We have all heard of the post workout window of opportu-
nity, this is where MPS has been pushed as far as we can
through the workout and now need to replenish our stores
of glycogen and amino acids. Within 10 minutes of finishing
workout drink MAX ARM. The unique blend of carbohydrates
and amino acids stimulate an insulin response, this acts as
a blocker to catabolism allowing the amino acids to further
increase MPS.
