Tossing the Keys!

It seems like only yesterday. Our oldest son passed all the tests. He was 16 years old and the state now recognized him as a legal, licensed drive. Sue and I stood on the sidewalk near our home, holding hands and silently praying. It was a transitional moment in the life of our family! Reluctantly, we handed our son the keys to the car for his first solo run. It seems like only yesterday. We watched him pull away from the curb and out into traffic, confirming to us that something tremendous had just taken place. This was a step of growth. We had given our son an adult responsibility. Our oldest had been released into an adult world and we realized his life had permanently changed. He was moving forward he would never turn back. Early in 1978 a group of individuals representing industry, businesses, and local government met together and incorporated the Romulus Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Clarence Carpenter, Robert Bureck, William Dorne, John Brimble, Doug Baum, Bill Simonds, and Jay Young (just to name a few) had a vision and a purpose. They worked together for their community and when the time was appropriate, they tossed the keys to another group! They demonstrated their trust in a new assembly of individuals who would serve as elected officers in the Chamber; trusting that they would move forward and never look back!

Your Greater Romulus Chamber Commerce continues to grow and find new and innovative ways of promoting the community because of the fine work of volunteers past and present. Ever moving forward we can be thankful and we will celebrate on April 20th when Jim Poet will be honored as the 27th Romulus Person of the Year. Jim and those who were honored before him represent all that is good about Romulus. Moving forward never turning back!
