The academic entry requirements listed here are intended as a guide only; other requirements may apply to speci c programmes. Please refer to the Unitec website for the speci c requirements for each programme, including the special admission criteria.

Applicants are required to meet: > The academic admission requirements; and > The English language requirements.

English language requirements

Unitec accepts academic IELTS and its equivalents, including NCEA English credits from NZ secondary school and TOEFL tests.

Statement of Purpose (SOP)

The SOP is a summary of your future plans, career goals/desires, interests for study etc. The purpose of an SOP is to help us check what you want to learn and whether the programme provides this, whether the programme will prepare you for the type of career youre looking for, and which elective courses would be most suitable so that you take the topics of interest to you. Therefore an SOP should: > Be 1-2 pages (short and detailed is better than long and vague) > Introduce you and why you want to apply for the programme > Tell us about your speci c interests in the eld youve chosen > Give us some idea of your career goals and plans for the future > Tell us what you want to learn or hope to get out of the programme to prepare you for those plans. An SOP should NOT: > Include a copy of the CV/work or study history in detail > Rely on vague, obvious plans such as I want to improve my skills in computing > Be a copy or summary of promotional material from Unitec about our services/facilities/ courses or about NZ as a study destination.

Programme-speci c information
Postgraduate Diploma in Health Science and Master of Health Science (Generic) Applicants must have: > An equivalent degree in the same or similar eld (radiology, nursing) or > Another professional quali cation with evidence of clinical experience and recommendations from employers. Students cannot register or practise in NZ after completion. There are no clinical courses involved and no access to hospitals it is academic study only. Graduate Diploma of Business and Graduate Diploma in Computing Students can apply directly for these programmes after completing a bachelors degree and no work experience is required. Postgraduate Diploma in Business and Master of Business Students must have relevant middle management or supervisory work experience. Postgraduate Diploma in Education and Master of Education Does not lead to registration as a teacher.

Refund policy for international students

PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE YOU SIGN THE APPLICATION FORM
General provisions a. By accepting a place in a programme at Unitec, a student enters a contract with Unitec for the period that tuition fees have been paid. b. All students may pay the tuition fee for one year in two instalments except that students in the following categories must pay the full-year tuition fee in one instalment prior to commencement of study: c. For full-year non-semesterised programmes, or in cases where Immigration NZ (INZ) regulations require payment of one years tuition fee in order to be granted a visa. In these circumstances there is no refund of tuition fees. d. There will be no refunds for Summer School. e. Students who wish to defer to the following semester must notify International no less than two weeks prior to the programme commencement. f. There is no automatic right to a refund of fees if a student changes his/her mind about studying at Unitec. g. If an international student is on a Unitec student visa and fails to enrol there will be no refund for the period the visa was granted. h. No refunds will be given after programme commencement. For Certi cate in Intensive English students programme commencement means the initial start date of the programme (as stated in the original O er of Place letter). If a student wishes to extend this programme, there will be no refund granted once payment is made. i. All applications for refunds must be on the Application for Refund form (obtainable from Unitec International) and submitted to the International O ce. j. Certi cate in Intensive English students must submit the Application for Refund form to the Department of Language Studies. Applications for refunds will be considered under the following categories a. INZ has refused to grant an initial student visa for study in New Zealand b. INZ has refused to extend a student visa c. Unitec is unable to proceed with the programme or classes o ered. Other refunds a. An international student in semesterised programmes who gains Permanent Residency will not receive a refund of fees for the semester in which residency is granted. However they will be treated as a New Zealand Permanent Resident for the following semester and refunded any international fees paid beyond the semester in which residency was granted. b. A Certi cate in Intensive English student who gains Permanent Residency during the initial enrolment period (as stated in the O er of Place letter) will not receive a refund of fees. c. International students in programmes designed with full-year non-semesterised courses (o ered as two classes Semester A and Semester B) must pay the international fees for the full year, and there will be no refund of tuition fees for that year even if Permanent Residency is granted during that year. d. If a student wishes to withdraw from their programme and an International Application for Refund is received by International no less than two weeks prior to the semester start date, a refund of 80% of tuition fees will be given. There will be no refund for International Applications for Refund received after this time. All refunds will be paid into the student's account in their home country on sighting evidence that the student concerned has returned to their home country, or to the student in NZ on sighting a changed visa (eg Visitors Visa or Work Permit). In all instances, INZ will be noti ed. e. If a student wishes to transfer to another institution and has INZ approval and the International Application for Refund is received by International no less than two weeks prior to the semester start date, 70% of the tuition fees will be refunded. There will be no refund for International Applications for refunds received after this time. The refund will either be sent directly to the institution, or on sighting a student visa for the other institution, the refund can be given to the student in New Zealand. f. The Director of International may approve refunds on a compassionate basis in exceptional circumstances (such as serious illness etc). The amount of the refund will be at the discretion of the Director of International.

Unitec collects and stores information about students to comply with various statutes, including the Education Act, the Public Finance Act and the Inland Revenue Act. We also collect and store information to enable us to make decisions regarding your progress, and to provide you with evidence of your academic achievements.
