Costello AP Lit Q4 Novel Choice (2nd half adaptation) Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison

n The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne Catch-22 by Joseph Heller Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut Your study of your selected novel will continue to help in preparation for both the multiple choice and essay portions of Mays AP test. Heres how well tackle the task: 1. NOTE-MAKING (2nd half of novel) During class on Wednesday, April 25th, students will select 5 free-response prompts that, upon reviewing the 1st half of the novel, seem promising as potential for applying to the novel. Rather than using the 6 categories we used in the first half of the novel to guide your notes, youll use the 5 prompts. Well still use a format that requires direct quotes, page numbers, and commentary on the significance. But this time, youll be commenting on its significance in relation to the prompt. Its especially important that youre analyzing how literary techniques are contributing to the significance, as thats a key component of the free-response essay. Amongst the 5 prompts, youll be expected to take between 8-10 pages (no prompt can have less than 1 page) of notes that cover the 2nd half of the novel. Notes related to PROMPT # ________ (Paraphrase the prompt here in the top margin) Quotation and page # Significance
