Life sciences are part of the major strategic key areas in economic devlopment of Lige. In 2009, a study carried out by the FrenchAmerican consultancy firm Bionest Partners specializing in the pharmaceutical and biomedical world highlighted Liges leadership potential on a European level in certain subfields such as genoproteomics (GIGA center) diagnostics science, cell therapy and translational research. Interface Entreprises-Universit, Lige Biomed unites partners who are the most directly involved in the development of the biomedical sector in Lige: the university, the university hospital (CHU), SPI and Meusinvest. This project aims to emphasize and involve all the players concerned whether they are from the business and financial world, or the domain of research and education. potential, but also cultural offer, heritage, quality of life and plans for the future. The second one concerns welcoming and supporting visitors/ investors and provide them with a tailor-made assistance. The final focal point consists of dealing with structural development by anticipating the future needs of the sector, by formalizing joint projects and seeking the support of regional politicians.

The Scientist magazine ranked the University of Lige in the top 10 most attractive international institutions to carry out post-doctoral research in life sciences field. The Lige Biomed project confirms ULgs desire to increase interaction between businesses in the biomedical sector in Lige, the University and the University hospital (CHU).

Meusinvest contributes to the creation and development of businesses in the Province of Lige by providing financing for projects in the long term. Thanks to its expertise, Meusinvest is currently involved in projects such as GIGA Business Facilities, managed in collaboration with ULg and Wallonia Biotech Coaching (WBC), a business incubator whose aim is to stimulate the creation and development of biotechnology companies.
