Plan and organize various community service events in surrounding communities in efforts to address equity within education. Global Intercultural Experience for Undergraduates, July 2010- August 2010 Team Member Collaborated with The Roving Caregivers Program (RCP) in the country of Grenada, West Indies. U of M Summer Bridge Program, Ann Arbor, Michigan, May 2011 August 2011 Peer Advisor/Course Assistant Participated as a residential advisor during a six-week program designed for 250 incoming college freshmen that were identified as students who may need assistance transitioning from high school to a large university. Graded student assignments, prepared lesson plans and taught college preparatory lessons. U of M America Reads Tutoring Corps, Ann Arbor, Michigan, September 2008-April 2010 Tutor Traveled to Vetal Elementary School in Detroit, MI twice a week to tutor kindergarten students who were reading below grade level. Vetal Elementary has been identified as a high-needs school. Designed weekly lesson plans, attended monthly tutor trainings and monthly tutor meetings. In these meetings, engaged in extensive discussion focused on equity in education and the types of issues students may face in inner-city schools. Internship: Visions Corporation - Woodmont Academy, Southfield, MI, June-August 2009 Teaching Intern Assisted and observed teachers in summer school kindergarten and second grade classrooms. Assisted during lunch and recess, and on various field trips. Led a daily afternoon activity session in which the students engaged in fun yet educational activities.
