U.)1; Usta, C (Usta, C.)2 Source: NATURAL PRODUCT RESEARCH Volume: 22 Issue: 2 Pages: 136-146 DOI: 10.1080/14786410701591663 Published: 2008 Screening of antibacterial activity and toxicity of 22 aqueous plant extracts from 17 Turkish plants was conducted. Antibacterial activity was performed with six bacteria including Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis. Extracts of Tussilago farfara leaves, gave the best inhibitory activity against S. pyogenes, S. aureus and S. epidermidis. Of the 22 plant extracts, 20 extracts displayed toxicity (LC(50) was <1000 mg L(-1)) in he brine shrimp bioassay. 2.Screening of some Siberian medicinal plants for antimicrobial activity Author(s): Kokoska, L (Kokoska, L); Polesny, Z (Polesny, Z); Rada, V (Rada, V); Nepovim, A (Nepovim, A); Vanek, T (Vanek, T) Source: JOURNAL OF ETHNOPHARMACOLOGY Volume: 82 Issue: 1 Pages: 51-53 Article Number: PII S0378-8741(02)00143-5 DOI: 10.1016/S0378-8741(02)00143-5 Published: SEP 2002 Abstract:The antimicrobial activity of crude ethanolic extracts of 16 Siberian medicinal plants was tested against five species of microorganisms: Bacillus cereus, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Candida albicans. Of the 16 plants tested, 12 showed antimicrobial activity against one or more species of microorganisms. The most active antimicrobial plants were Bergenia crassifolia, Chelidonium majus, Rhaponticum

carthamoides, Sanguisorba officinalis, and Tussilago farfara.

1.Antidepressant and antioxidant activities of Artemisia absinthium L. at flowering stage Author(s): Mahmoudi, M (Mahmoudi, M.)2; Ebrahimzadeh, MA (Ebrahimzadeh, M. A.)1; Ansaroudi, F (Ansaroudi, F.)1; Nabavi, SF (Nabavi, S. F.)1; Nabavi, SM (Nabavi, S. M.)1 Source: AFRICAN JOURNAL OF BIOTECHNOLOGY Volume: 8 Issue: 24 Pages: 7170-7175 Published: DEC 15 2009 Methanolic extract of A. absinthium aerial part at flowering stage was screened for antioxidant activities by five complementary test systems. Also, its antidepressant activity was determined by forced swimming (FST) and tail suspension tests (TST). The extract showed good antioxidant activity. Also, the extract showed good reducing power activity between 50 and 800 mu gml(-1). The extract exhibited a good activity in H(2)O(2) scavenging (IC(50) = 243 +/- 12.15 mu g ml(1)). IC(50) for iron ion chelating activity was 419 +/- 20.95 mu g ml(-1). Quercetin, BHA, EDTA and ascorbic acid used as positive controls in parallel experiments. The extract showed high phenolic and flavonoid contents 2Antimicrobial activity of leaf extracts of Indian medicinal plants against clinical and phytopathogenic bacteria Author(s): Sukanya, SL (Sukanya, S. L.)1,2; Sudisha, J (Sudisha, J.)2; Hariprasad, P (Hariprasad, P.)2; Niranjana, SR (Niranjana, S. R.)2; Prakash, HS (Prakash, H. S.)2; Fathima, SK (Fathima, S. The good correlation between the two methods of the characterization of antioxidant capacity (FRAP and DPPH) suggest that the anlioxidant compounds from analyzed medicinal herbs present both reducing power and radical scavenging capacity 4.Antioxidative and antibacterial activity of the methanol extract of Artemisia anomala S. Moore Author(s): Huang, GR (Huang Guangrong)1; Jiang, JX (Jiang Jiaxin)1; Dai, DH (Dai Dehui)2 Source: AFRICAN JOURNAL OF BIOTECHNOLOGY Volume: 7 Issue: 9 Pages: 1335-1338 Published: MAY 2 2008 The methanol extract of Artemisia was subjected to screening for their possible antioxidative activities by using 2, 2'-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl ( DPPH) and -carotene bleaching methods.
