Research Analysts for the Enterprise Innovation Institute

Organizational Background The Georgia Tech Enterprise Innovation Institute (EI2) is the largest and most comprehensive university-based program of business and economic development assistance in the United States. Our overall goal is to help enterprises of all types and sizes use science, technology, and innovation to improve their competitiveness and bottom lines. Innovation Partners, a unit within EI2, is engaged in a wide variety of programs and activities within this sphere. Key programs include a longstanding relationship with NASA, assisting with the commercialization of NASA-developed technologies; an initiative for the U.S. Department of Commerce to assist smaller universities with the commercialization of their faculty-developed intellectual property; and a new effort to assist other universities, states and foreign countries with the establishment of high-tech business incubators modeled on EI2s successful Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC).

Duties of the Position We are seeking three highly motivated students to become research assistants working in Innovation Partners. The positions entail performing various research and consulting tasks as part of a team under the direction of a project manager. The length of each assignment and the number of assignments will vary, although the workload is expected to average 15 hours per week. Examples include identifying applications for new technologies, conducting competitive analyses for new or existing companies, identifying and documenting best practices in university faculty commercialization, developing and maintaining a website to communicate with potential clients, developing and adjusting analytical tools, and assisting with background research in developing new client proposals. Qualifications Candidates should be pursuing a graduate degree in Management, with an interest in marketing, entrepreneurship, or a related field, and should have one to three years experience with industry or a consulting firm. Strong writing, analytical, and computer skills are mandatory, along with excellent library and internet search skills. Applicants must be proficient in Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. Experience with Access, GIS, SPSS or other data analysis tools is highly desirable. Fluency in both written and spoken English is expected, as assignments frequently involve gathering information via telephone.
