It has many things to offer such as, free lesson plans, materials for teaching phonemic awareness and vocabulary, and reading assessment activities.

There are also links to reader and writer workshops that could really assist a first grade teacher. Open Court Resources - http://www.opencourtresources.com/teaching/index.html - Open Court Resources seems to be a good site for first grade teachers. It provides some really good units and games to go along with them. Teacher Vision - http://www.teachervision.fen.com/readingcomprehension/resource/55347.html - Teacher Vision provides great reading comprehension resources such as sequencing and summarizing. This site shows many subject resources, ways to manage the classroom, and themes to go along with each subject area.

It also has live web cam videos of some of the animals located there like the panda, elephant, ape, and polar bear. COSI - http://www.cosi.org/ - The Center of Science and Industry has a lot of online virtual activities for children. Many of the activities are classroom activities to assist teachers with new ideas for making lessons more enticing for the students. Ripleys Aquarium of Myrtle Beach, SC - http://myrtlebeach.ripleyaquariums.com/ - This website has video archives about sharks and other marine animals for children to learn about. This site also gives a lot of information about the hands on and discovery center in the museum. Smithsonian Natural Museum of Natural History - http://www.mnh.si.edu/panoramas/# This site offers a wonderful comprehension virtual tour of the museum. Children would have a blast looking at the dinosaurs and ancient fossils of the earth. Miami Childrens Museum - http://www.miamichildrensmuseum.org/exhibits/virtualtour.html - The Miami Childrens Museum website allows students to take a virtual tour throughout the museum so they can understand and explore. This tour shows the students each unique area of the museum and provides a great alternative to visiting since it is too far away for a field trip.
