Bomb was fully primed

A VAN bomb packed with 600lbs of home-made explosives and abandoned near the border could have caused substantial damage and major loss of life, police have said. A senior officer said the bomb which was first discovered on Thursday evening was primed and ready to go and could have had a devastating impact if it had detonated. The device was eventually made safe on Friday night. See page 7

Appeal over lough body

THE body of a woman has been recovered from Lough Erne. Police in Enniskillen are investigating the death of Rosemary Collins, 55, who was last seen in the Cornagrade Road area at 8.15pm on Saturday. Her body was recovered at Cherry Island at 1.40am yesterday. The PSNI have appealed for anyone who may have seen or spoke to Rosemary in the Enniskillen area in that time period to contact them on 0845 600 8000.

THE proposed conflict resolution centre at the old Maze Prison will be a Mecca for tourists according to Peter Robinson. The First Minister yesterday described the overall project at the site as a really exciting

development. But he did not specifically refer to the highly contentious possible retention of the jails hospital block. Many unionists have demanded the destruction of the hospital wing where IRA hunger-striker Bobby Sands died in 1981, fearing it could become a shrine to terrorists. Speaking on BBC Radio

Ulsters Inside Politics show yesterday, Mr Robinson said we must accept there will never be an agreed version of what happened during the Troubles but confirmed the controversial interpretive centre is going ahead. It is very clear that we have a very different angle of vision on what has transpired, he said.

The First Minister went on to point out that there was no agreement in terms of what is going to be within that facility. Mr Robinson said political progress will bring very significant benefits in terms of what he called conflict resolution tourism using the new development near Lisburn as an example. turn to page 5
