Objective: Students will prepare for the Global Regents. They will review Belief systems throughout history.

They will share and support each other. This is a flipped classroom lesson. They will explain the political, economic and social impact of the belief system. They will understand cause/effect relationship of the conflict these beliefs systems have led to throughout history. Standard:

Standard 2, Key Idea 1


Key Idea 1:The study of world history requires an understanding of world cultures and civilizations, including an analysis of important ideas, social and cultural values, beliefs, and traditions. This study also examines the human condition and the connections and interactions of people across time and space and the ways different people view the same event or issue from a variety of perspectives.

Students had to research four. I guided them through the assignment with guided questions. Aim: Were belief systems a positive or negative force throughout history?

Theme: Belief Systems


A belief system is an established, orderly way that groups or individuals look at religious faith or philosophical principles. These systems have often affected politics, society, and the economy in the nations or regions in which they are practiced. Belief systems have also created conflicts between people throughout history.

Choose four of the belief systems listed below:


*you may not choose both Roman Catholic Christianity and Protestant Christianity *Animism which is not listed is a traditional African religion. The main belief is that all things in nature contain a spirit. They may combine aspects of nature, for example in making a headdress. They believe the combination empowers the object. Students will visit students around the room and share their research. I will be here to facilitate the process. Summary: Based on your shared research: Choose one belief system How did the belief systems impact the believers in a positive way? How did the belief system impact the believers in a negative way? Overall do you think belief systems have been a more positive or negative influence on the history of the world?

Assessment: A regents essay: They have a choice of two different essays to answer.
