Essential Learnings: Students will be able to develop their body and spatial awareness in order to improve movement and confidence in a variety of physical activities as well as develop their loco motor and non-loco motor movements and manipulative skills in order to improve the quality of physical performance and support participation in physical activities. Students personal development will be enhanced as this lesson helps them to understand that identity is shaped by personal characteristics and experiences and that establishing and maintaining relationships involves effective communication, being considerate of others and respecting differences. Developing Concepts and Skills for Physical Activity 3.1 Students perform movement skills and sequences to meet the requirements of different physical activities and tasks. Enhancing Personal Development 3.4 Students demonstrate communication, cooperation and decision-making skills to collaborate in social, team or group situations. Objectives: In this lesson students will learn the proper techniques involved in enhancing their height in long jump to enable them to jump further. Students will participate in a warm up, interactive instruction, athletic practise and games in order to achieve this objective. TEACHING\LEARNING ACTIVITIES Warm Up (Orientation) Teacher introduces that they will be learning long jump skills today and therefore she would like the students to follow her in a set of warm ups that will help stretch the muscles needed for the activities today The teacher will lead students in a music driven series of jumps to demonstrate height. Teacher demonstrates the proper technique and students being when the music starts. Jumps include, jumping on each foot, jumping to touch your knees, reach for the stars, and jumping jacks. 2-3 minutes Context/Prior Knowledge: Prior knowledge expected of students will be long jump techniques including the running, take off and landing. In addition the students will understand the essentials of teamwork including respect, cooperation and effective listening. TIME Classroom Management: Whole class lesson Teacher proximity and scanning used to ensure students stay on task and students with difficulty are able to elicit teacher support Since this is an outdoor activity the teacher will need to remind students of the different rules that need to be followed when outside of the classroom

(Long Jump Technique Step by Step Instruction) Enhancement: Teacher asks students the purpose of the jumping warm up and discusses how gaining height increases distance in long jump. Discuss how your arms involved in helping your body propel up and forward. Talk about using your momentum to angle your whole body up and forward while in the air.

Resources: Long jump pits Hats, shoes and appropriate clothing worn by teacher and students Rake Rope and pylons Numeracy Lesson Plan 7W 2008

All students have a chance to practice the action of propelling their body forward using their whole body. (emphasise that it is not just in the legs) Once everyone has had a chance to practice their jumps we will introduce a rope that they must aim to jump over. Teacher will raise the rope depending on students abilities.

Skipping ropes

(Obstacle course in Small groups) Synthesis: In four groups students will participate in an obstacle course to further practice jumping over objects of various heights. We will organize groups by selecting four students and have the have the rest of the students sit behind them in equal size groups taking into consideration gender rations. 10 minutes

This activity is a fun team building group activity to conclude the session. Obstacle course will start with leap frog, followed by hopping on one foot to the pylon, jumping over a series of pylons, reach for the star jumps to the skipping ropes where they skip 10 times and run back to the beginning. Safety Considerations: Assessment: Teacher rakes pits to ensure that there is nothing dangerous hidden in the sand Formative Assessment checklist When the rake is put down, the prongs must be facing away from where the Includes the following students are running or jumping Cooperation Teacher has a first aid kit outside/ close by in case of emergency Following instructions Students wear hats and sunscreen and are expected to have water with them Technique Teacher allows students time in the shade to protect them from overexposure to Effort / participation the sun Students and teachers must have proper footwear Students and teacher complete a set of stretches before more intense physical activity to prevent injuries Students understand a set of rules which differ from those inside the classroom, including things such as staying within the boundaries, and no horseplay with peers

Special considerations: specify that students should choose their groups wisely Have students with lower ability go last because it allows for a shorter obstacle race. During the students final jump the rope will be at a height where all students can achieve success.
