CATAGORIES OF COMPUTERS
INTRODUCTION
Computer is an electronic device that is used to solve various problems according to a set of instructions given to it.A computer can accept data, process data into useful information and store it for later use. Computer word is derived from compute that means to calculate.computer is used to perform arithmetic and logical operations.calculation is not the only use of computer.it can be used for different purposes.

CLASSIFICATION OF COMPUTER
Normally, computers are classified on the basis of size, speed, processing power and price. However, the classification of computers is not very straight forward.computers can be divided into the following catagories Microcomputer or Personal Computer Mini Computer Mainframe Computer Super Computer

HAND HELD COMPUTERS PERSONAL DIGITAL ASSISTANT (PDA)

A personal digital assistant (PDA), also known as a palmtop computer, it is a mobile device that functions as a personal information manager. Current PDAs often have the ability to connect to the Internet. A PDA has an electronic visual display, enabling it to include a web browser, but some newer models also have audio capabilities, enabling them to be used as mobile phones or portable media players. Many PDAs can access the Internet, intranets or extranets via Wi-Fi or Wireless Wide Area Networks. Many PDAs employ touchscreen technology.

TABLET PCs
A tablet personal computer (tablet PC) is a portable personal computer equipped with a touchscreen as a primary input device and designed to be operated and owned by an individual. The term was made popular as a concept presented by Microsoft in 2001, but tablet PCs now refer to any tablet-sized personal computer, regardless of the operating system. Unlike laptops, tablet personal computers may not be equipped with a keyboard, in which case they use a virtual onscreen substitute. All tablet personal computers have a wireless adapter for Internet and local network connection. Software applications for tablet PCs include office suites, web browsers, games and a variety of applications. However, since portable computer hardware components are low powered, demanding PC applications may not provide an ideal experience to the user. HAND HELD DEVICES A handheld device, handheld computer or simply handheld) is a pocket-sized computing device, typically having a display screen with touch input and/or a miniature keyboard.
In the case of the personal digital assistant (PDA) the input and output are often combined into a touch-screen interface. Smartphones and PDAs are popular amongst those who require the assistance and convenience of certain aspects of a conventional computer, in environments where carrying one would not be practical. Enterprise digital assistants can further extend the available functionality for the business user by offering integrated data capture devices like barcode, RFID and smart card readers.

SERVER In computer networking, a server is simply a program that operates as a socket listener. The term server is also often generalized to describe a host that is deployed to execute one or more such program.

WORKS TATION
A workstation is a high-end microcomputer designed for technical or scientific applications. Intended primarily to be used by one person at a time, they are commonly connected to a local area network and run multi-user operating systems

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SERVER AND WORKSTATION

Differences in functions Servers keep files such as html, images, video and applications available online for the client computer to acces. They also allow many computers to share applications or an internet connection. The fucntion of a workstaton is to complete high end applications like graphic design, video editing etc.

Users of servers and workstations

Workstations are intended primarily to be used by one person at a time, although they can usually also be accessed remotely by other users when necessary. Servers serve the task of connecting the user and generally will have no or single user.

Purpose
Workstations may be designed for specific tasks like Auto CAD[1], Studio MAX etc or other work involving mathematical calculations, statistical data or video or graphic editing. While servers are intended for networking.

Operating systems
The most popular operating systems for servers are FreeBSD, Solaris and Linux while workstations run on UNIX.

GUI for workstations vs. servers

Workstations have the highest quality Graphical user interface with efficient video and audio qualities as they mostly do work related to video/audio editing. On the other hand, a Server lacks a GUI and other elaborate audio/ video interfaces.
