Safety and Welfare are two areas that play a vital role in the achieving productivity and job satisfaction in any organization. As a result of accidents the organization looses a number of man-hours and this loss affects the productivity. Satisfying or fulfilling the safety and security needs of the workers, would give them a better opportunity and more time to concentrate on job performance. The study was conducted among the class III and class IV non-ministerial employees of Cochin Port Trust. From among the target population of 1397 employees, a sample of size 150 was taken. The target population was divided into 6 strata. The Stratified simple random probabilistic sampling method was used to decide the sample. A questionnaire was used to interview the 150 respondents. Percentage analysis and statistical tools like chi-square and phi-coefficient were used for data analysis and interpretation. The study shows that the majority of the employees, 83% are satisfied with the safety measures provided to them. Only 16% of them feel it is dissatisfactory. The employees feel that safety

training should be conducted regularly and it should include all the employees. The researcher is of the opinion that the safety awareness among the employees is quite low.

Among the 150 respondents, a major 92% are satisfied with the welfare measures provided at CoPT. The welfare measure that disappoints the employees the most is the transport facilities. They are of the opinion that transport facilities are to be provided especially in the case of employees working in night shifts. Since the statistical analysis shows that the level of satisfaction of transport facilities has an association with the overall level of satisfaction, attention may be given to this area.
