Friday:ComedyDebate Friday'sComedyDebateorganisedbyDunedinSouthkickedoffthe weekendwithatonoflaughsaslateminutereplacementforBill English,JimHopkins,liveduptohisreputationasoneofthefunniest andclevercomedydebatersstillgingaround.Withthemoot"Dunedin SouthisTurningBlue"convincinglywonbytheaffirmative,wewere luckyenoughtoraise$150foratubofmarmitesignedbythePrime MinisterahugethanksmustgoouttoDunedinSouth'sRobyn Broughtonforensuringourbankbalanceisgivenamuchneededboost.

Interestinglyenough,beforeBillhadtowithdraw,allsixdebaterswere eitherYoungNatsorhonoraryYoungNats,sowereallydidhavea greatpresencerightfromthegetgo. Saturday:Conference,Cocktails&Dinner SaturdaymorningkickedoffwithaYoungNatsbreakoutpolicysession, andthedaycontinuedwithadistinctfocusoneducationpolicy discussion.

HighlightsfromthedayincludedspeechesfromHonStevenJoyce,Hon HekiaParata,andaQ+AwithHon.BillEnglish.Theeveningwas equallyassuccessful,asabriefaddressbythePrimeMinisterwas followedbyafurtherauctionfortheYoungNatswhereDunedinNorth's RachelBirdmanagedtosnagus$250fora"KeyPerson"tshirtsigned bythePrimeMinister.

Sunday:ClosingRemarksandBeingPantsedbythePM Sundaymorning/extensionofSaturdayeveningforsomesayspeeches byPartyPresidentPeterGoodfellow,myself,andthePrimeMinister,all ofwhichwerewellreceivedbythecrowd.

IhavetosayitwasanhonourtobeabsolutelypantsedbythePrime Ministerinhisopeningjoke,Icouldn'tthinkofanybodyI'dratherbe madefunof!WefinishedoffwitharounduponMMPandsomegroup photos,withJacquiDean'sclosingaddressonceagainrecognisingthe hardworkandeffortsoftheYoungNats.Ahugethankyoutoallofthe Southernteamwhoattended,totheorganisersandtotheMinistersand MPswhotooktimetomeet,converseandnetworkwithouryoungsters.

Asyoumightknow,aproposedlawchangewouldseethepurchaseage foralcoholraisedto20.TheYoungNatshaveforalongtimebeen advocatesforkeepingthepurchaseageat18,andthisremainsthecase today.

KeepIt18isajointcampaignbytheYoungNats,ActOnCampus, YoungGreensandYoungLabourinoppositiontotheseproposals.The

groupwasfirstformedin2006todefeatproposedalcohollawchanges andisonceagainactive.Youcanhelpthemoutbycheckingout theirFacebookPage,andlettingyourlocalMPknowhowyoufeel abouttheproposedchanges.

NZYoungNatsAnnualConference TheNZYoungNatsareholdingtheirannualconferenceinAuckland onJuly20andareseekingmembers'thoughtsonwhatyou'dliketosee dotakethetimetoletthemknowwhatyouthinkbyfillingout thissurvey. BarlowJusticeFunction ThisFridaytheSouthernYoungNatswillbefundraisingattheBarlow JusticeLtdclientfunctioninDunedinbymanningBBQs,serving guestsandrefillingdrinks. Thispresentsagreatnetworkingopportunityforourmembersto connectwithsuccessfulmembersofthelocalbusinesscommunity,and weneedacoupleofextrahandstohelppullthisoff,sobesuretoletme knowifyoucanhelpout. HospiceFundraising TheOtagoCommunityHospiceprovideshighqualityspecialist palliativecare,supportandservicesforpeoplefacinglifelimiting illnesses.
