2. On the elmo overhead projector we will be reviewing the tools of a map (i.e. legend, key, scale, etc.) 3. Using the world map on the elmo have the student find the country that you are describing and the oceans around it. (It has the Pacific Ocean to the East, the Indian Ocean to the South and 10 Countries as its neighbors) 4. Using the US map the student will be able to locate a location of your choosing (i.e. Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, etc.) they will also be able to identify the region in which these areas lie. 5. The students will be identifying longitude and latitude on the map. Ask the students if they can tell the class an easy way to remember longitude and latitude? (Longitude goes up and down long ways.) (These definitions should be listed in their journals, for studying at a later date) 6. We will be discussing the difference between natural and manmade by using pictures found in the social studies books. 7. The students will be able to (using a venn diagram in their journals) compare and contrast New York City with a city of from the provided list (Burns, OR, Burlington, VT or Austin, TX)

8. The students will determine what is man influence or nature influenced in the pictures they are shown on the elmo. 9. In their journals the students will be writing a paragraph in answer to this Question; How have people changed the environment in your community? (We are looking for something along the lines of People use the earths resources to build homes, businesses, infrastructure, etc.) 10. We will be discussing their answers after they are done writing.

11. The students should be making any drawings in their journals that they think will assist them towards the understanding of the unit we are currently working on.

5. 6.

Assessment: The assessment will be the work that they are going to turn in. The end of the unit assessment. Their journals Reflection: (bullet points) We will be moving on to the next section of geography so that the students will get a better idea of the areas that we touched on in this lesson. For the students who are having difficulties with the lesson I would make sure that they are sitting next to someone who is willing to help them and make sure that they have their own map to follow along and at the end of the lesson I will sit down with them as a one on one. I think there is going to be a problem with the natural and manmade because there are going to be things that some student will think that should be the opposite of what it is.
