I. Rationale

Sports and fitness activities are one of the common interests of the students of UP Diliman. Furthermore, the Constitution of the University Student Council states, ...that education should develop mans PHYSICAL, MENTAL, SOCIAL, CULTURAL, and SPIRITUAL potential to the full, in order to realize a human and humane existence for all. With that, the University Student Council should strive to meet the said statement in their Constitution by providing the necessary venues for holistic growth of everyone in the University of the Philippines.

Sports are also a source of healthy competition and also foster the right kind of attitude amidst adversity. These promote a sound body which helps in maintaining a sound mind. The engagement in such activities will encourage holistic development for everyone involved.

Varsity student-athletes also need to be given support and empowerment through various projects of this committee. They train for a minimum of 15 hours per week while still handling the normal academic load a UP student handles is a challenge they face all the days of the college life. This is a feat that most students and even faculty take for granted. Empowerment of the varsity student-athletes will eventually bring about and instil UP pride in everyone who we, as USC, will involve.

UP is home to the country's premiere Sports Science and Physical Education Institution in the country. Activities geared for health and fitness improvement and promotions will be a venue for knowledge

advancement. The existence of a committee for such undertakings will ensure that these advancements be translated to something beneficial and socially relevant for all.

II. Vision/Mission

To instill a well-rounded growth to the students of the University of the Philippines through the promotion of a healthy and active lifestyle by initiating activities which are also in the current interest of the studentry without sacrificing the principles of the current University Student Council, and to instil UP pride through the empowerment of the Varsity student-athletes. . III. Goals/Objectives

To engage UP students to have an active lifestyle To promote a well-rounded personal growth through involvement in sports and fitness activities
