1) Know- correct usage: there/their/theyre your/youre to/too/two its/its accept/except wear/where/ware through/threw how to identify correct pronouns how to recognize double negatives the placement of modifiers how to use modifiers to compare Understand - correct grammar usage matters because different words have different meanings and they influence the clarity of a written sentence - correct grammar usage improves quality of written and spoken language Do - identify the correct homophone when give the option of multiple choices in a sentence - apply correct pronouns to a sentence - read a sentence and determine whether or not it is grammatically correct 2) Assessments before instruction: (see attached A) Assessments at end of instruction: (see attached B) Adaptations/Modifications: the questions will be read out loud for any student who would like to hear them 3) Since this unit is being taught over very short periods of each day (5-7 minutes), short or informal assessments will be done every day to assess each students progress and need for clarification or supplemental instruction. These assessments will be short exit slips, notes on students application of skill during games/examples for the daily lesson or more informal but tangible assessments; (ex. After reviewing the correct usage of the word, write a sentence on the board and/or verbalize a sentence where the word could be correctly used). Samples of paper-based tasks (see attached C). Formative assessments will be administered every 5th day of instruction to monitor current student achievement. Formative assessments will be designed weekly based on content covered during that time.
