Multi-Genre Assignment Sheet What is a Multi-Genre Paper?

A multi-genre paper is just what the term suggests: it is a non-traditional paper using many different genres, depending on what the specific subject, facts or audience call for. What topic do we have to research? You may choose the topic for yourself; pick something that interests you that was touched on in the unit. What is a genre? A genre is a category of writing that is known for a specific style, form content. Below is a short list of examples of genres you can include in your paper: Advice Column Persuasive Paragraph Speech Descriptive Paragraph Informative Autobiography Eyewitness account Song Interview Poetry Letter Cartoon Painting/picture Diary memo play newspaper article Requirements: Your paper/project must include the following: 1. A title page 2. Three entries (different genres of writing) 3. Vocabulary - 5 of the vocabulary words must be used correctly in your project 4. Personification - at least one example of personification in your project 5. A works cited (if you used any information from sources) Title Page: The title page should include your name, the date, class period and the title of your project. Entries: THREE entries minimum are required, but feel free to add more. you are required to use THREE different types of genres. Note: only one photo or drawing will count towards your required three, anymore will be welcomed but will not count towards your minimum requirements. Also, all photos and drawings used must be your own! All of your entries must involve the same theme. For example, if I am going to do the topic of the moon, then my three entries could include a painting of the moon lighting up a cornfield, a myth about ancient Israelis beliefs of the moon and a biographical paragraph about the man on the moon. Grading This project is worth 100 points. Here is the breakdown of what I am looking for:

1. Title page -The title page includes: -Name -Date -Class Period -Title

2. Three (3) writing entries 75 points (25 points each) -Each of your entries must: -Be original -Be of the same theme/topic of the rest of your paper/project -Use correct spelling, grammar and punctuation -Remember: Each entry needs to be a different type of writing. You may not turn in three poems, or three pictures, etc. 3. Vocabulary (5 total) 10 points (2 points for each word) -You must use five (5) of the units vocabulary words, and express them correctly in your paper. -You will receive one point for attempting to use the word (or portray the word), and one point for doing so correctly. 4. Personification 5 points -You must have one example of personification in your paper at some point. It can be in any of the genres, including the visual genres if you choose to.

5. Works Cited 5 points -If you chose to quote any thing or paraphrase anything from any source, you must include a works cited. Total points: 100 (in the major papers portion of your grade)
**Also, for each work day in class, five total, you will hand in drafts of your work at the end of class. I will then look and them and provide feedback for you. By showing me that youve completed significant chuncks of your paper each day in class, you will receive 3 points (in the major papers portion of your grade). There will be 4 works day, and 2 days in the library. You can earn a total of 12 points working hard in class.
