Before you listen or read activitiesThe main objective of the pre-listening/reading activities are to motivate, anticipate and prepare students

for the reading orlistening. These activities relate what students aregoing to listen or read to their own experience, activate previous knowledge, focus their attentionand lead them to the understanding of the keywords. Since these pre-activities are a way of preparing the atmosphere for the reading orlistening, they should always be followed in thesame session by, at least two activities belongingto the while stage.

1-What authentic or genuine aspects of the material can you identify? Can you see any drawbacks? I think the first video is genuine since this is a quality of the text. This is a song that intends to express an encouraging message to anyone, it does not matter if you are a native speaker, a language learner or not. I find it very helpful and motivating to start a class. The second video is more authentic since this is an advertisement of a movie; there is a mixture of text native and non-native speakers. This has been adapted for a purpose maybe for an English class where students are starting on expanding their listening skill and reading skills. Maybe a drawback could be video one since it is too old but it depends on the teacher how he/she directs the class.

2- Which skills are reinforced? Regarding the videos and according to your current teaching context, would you put more emphasis on productive or receptive skills? In my opinion, both videos reinforce listening skills, but subtitles could be considered as reinforcing reading skills and it could be admitted as integrated-skill, too. Using these videos is to emphasize on receptive skills, but after finishing them I would like to work with activities that promote productive skills.

3- If you had to use one of them, which one of them would you use? Give reasons. Even-though second video is an appealing video I would use the first one (Michaels song) because Students love songs and sing, in addition we can use it as warm-up to start a class talking about smile, you know how important is smile in our lives. I will try to provoke a debate.

4- Considering one of the videos, can you think of some pre- activities and post-activities?

PRE- ACTIVITIES: Vocabulary, Background Information,Interest,Motivation

Pots- activities: engage the students in a discussion of the merits of the views that were expressed in the listening or reading segment.

5-In your opinion, what are the advantages and disadvantages of the Integrated-skill and the segregated-skill approach? Well, let's get started
