Course description:
This course is about Human Resource Management HRM policies and practices. These are the acts taken by firms and organizations to recruit and then to manage their employees. They include everything from recruitment and selection techniques (which initiate the relationship between firm and employee), to the mass of rules that determine how people are treated as current employees, and all the way to policies on separation (which determine whether, and in what circumstances, an employee is to be let go). The unit follows the perspective adopted in most HRM textbooks and looks at the subject from an organizational point of view, but it also acknowledges that a range of other factors shape the use of HRM policies and practices, including government and regulatory frameworks.

Course objectives:
This course gives students an introduction to the key elements of Human Resource Management. To demonstrate how the social sciences can assist in understanding the management of human resources; and to examine and evaluate human resource policies and practices of organizations. Help students examine the different theories which try to explain the relationship between HRM and organizational performance. Develop students ability to analyze and critically evaluate HP policies and practices.
