Switching Workspaces in AutoCAD 2009

This tutorial outlines the steps in switching workspaces to complement the users drawing environment. Workspaces are sets of menus, toolbars, palettes, and ribbon panels that are grouped and organized to create a task-oriented drawing environment. Switching workspaces helps you to quickly access tools and commands by displaying only the relevant user interface elements. AutoCAD 2009 ships with the following workspaces:

2D Drafting & Annotation - Displays tools specific to 2D drafting. Displays the new interface which includes the ribbon and menu browser. 3D Modeling - Displays tools specific to 3D modeling.

Displays the new interface which includes the ribbon, menu browser and the Tool Palettes window.

AutoCAD Classic- Displays AutoCAD's Classic interface. Displays the menu bar, menu browser, toolbars and the Tool Palettes window.

Usage Scenario
John Cad and Partners have entered into an agreement with West Lancashire District Council to design the layout of several houses in Skelmersdale town centre. They will be providing a set of 2D drawing plans and 3D models for each house being proposed. Problem: AutoCAD 2009 introduces a new look and many new user interfaces that change the way favourite commands are accessed. John Cad and Partners would need specific menus, toolbars, and palettes that are relevant to the task to be displayed. Solution: John Cad and Partners can do the following: 1 Displaying the way AutoCAD looked in previous releases 2 Switching between the AutoCAD 2009 interfaces to display the tools specific for 2D drafting and 3D modeling depending on the drawing environment

In this lesson, you will help John Cad and Partners to display the way AutoCAD looked in previous releases before AutoCAD 2009. AutoCAD 2009 introduces a new look and many new user interfaces that change the way you access your favourite commands. You can change the way AutoCAD looks to display the menu bar, menu browser, toolbars, and the Tool Palettes window by using the Workspace Switching tool. Switching to the classic workspace 1 Click Start menu (Windows) Programs Autodesk AutoCAD 2009 AutoCAD 2009. 2 On the status bar, click Workspace Switching.

Lesson 2: Switching Between AutoCAD 2009 Workspaces

In this lesson, you will help John Cad and Partners to switch workspaces to display tools that are relevant in creating a 3D model. When you switch workspaces, only relevant menus, toolbars, and palettes are displayed. In addition, a workspace automatically displays the ribbon, a special palette with tabs and panels. You will help display only the tools needed for creating a model of a house by switching to the 3D Modeling workspace. Switching to the 3D modeling workspace 1 On the status bar, click Workspace Switching.
