INSTRUCTIONS TO STUDENTS FOR PROJECT SEMESTER TRAINING

SELECTION OF INDUSTRY: 1. Give preference to Industries where you have been placed during the campus recruitment. 2. Select the Industry that assigns viable projects, involving technical know-how, to the students. 3. Preference must be given to the Industries that have a track record of absorbing the trainees after the completion of training. 4. Preference must be given to Industries that offer stipend during the course of training, rather than industries that charge fees for imparting training. 5. Training in Industrial units that simply provide the training certificates without imparting due industrial exposure/offering viable projects to the students. ORIENTATION AT INDUSTRY: 1. First 2- 3 weeks of the training may be devoted for orientation. The students may visit different plants /units to have a feel of the industry. The students must learn the understanding of the working environment and the technologies available at the Industry. 2. Immediately after reporting in the Industry, the students must inform the name of their Industrial Coordinator along with his/her contact number, email ID, designation etc. to the Training Coordinator at UCoE. SELECTION OF PROJECT(S): 1. Students must work on projects that should involve their technical know-how. The projects must be selected in consultation with the respective industrial supervisor. 2. The project may involve the existing industrial problem Viz. Scrap reduction, Reliability & Productivity improvement, Line balancing problem, Failure analysis, Improvement of existing design/process/testing methods, Projects involving application of Industrial engineering techniques such as SQC, Value Engg., TQM, TPM etc. 3. The number of project(s) undertaken by the students must be justifiable within the time frame of the project semester. VISIT OF FACULTY COORDINATOR & SUBMISSION OF PROGRESS REPORT: 1. During the course of training, the evaluation will be done by the Faculty coordinator. The students must consult their respective coordinator regarding the schedule of visit. 2. At the time of visit, the students must give a brief presentation regarding the project(s) undertaken and should submit a written report regarding the same. The report (10-15 pages) must include Introduction and Objective(s) of Project(s) undertaken, Methodology adopted, Analysis procedure, Salient outcome of the Project(s)/Status of the ongoing Project(s). 3. The students must maintain a record of day to day activities undertaken by them. This report will be verified and evaluated by the faculty coordinator during the said visit. PREPERATION OF FINAL REPORT & FINAL EVALUATION AT THE INSTITUTE: 1. On completion of the training, the students must compile a detailed training report consisting of around 60-80 pages mainly focusing on the Project(s) undertaken. The report should be hard bound and must include duly signed original certificate issued by the industry, acknowledgement, contents, a brief history of organization, organization structure, range of product (not more then 20-25 pages), Introduction and Objective(s) of Project(s) undertaken, Methodology adopted, Analysis procedure, Salient outcome of the Project(s). The detailed guidelines for writing of the report are enclosed herewith 2. The students must prepare three copies of the training report. One copy should be submitted in the Industry, second copy in the Institute during the viva voce/presentation and the third copy may be retained by the student for future reference. 3. The students will be required to deliver a power point presentation (consisting of around 30-40 slides) of 15-20 mins. duration at the time of final evaluation/viva-voce examination in the institute. The presentation should mainly focus on the Project(s) undertaken by the students and the salient contribution made by the students. Doubts, if any, may be clarified from Co-Coordinator Training Er. NOTE: Please note the case of letters in the cover page. The 3rd. line is 16 pt bold and other lines are 12 pt. The page is centered. Department and Institute names are bold. The matter contained in the report should be typed in MS word (1.5 spacing) Times New Roman (use Font Size 12 pt for Text and 14 pt for Headings) or equivalent with other software. Figures and tables may be inserted in the text as they appear or may be appended in order. List of references shall be appended at the end. Subject matter should be typed on both sides. A total of THREE HARD BOUND copies may be prepared: One for the student, second for the industry coordinator and third for the institute.
