Holoscene, Intl. was established in 2011 as a team of individuals sharing the same value of following the aesthetics of form and the utility of space. Each team members area of interest and specialization compliments each others. Our diversely skilled team works together as strongly knit mesh, allowing us to provide innovative high-end services in Landscape Architecture, Site Planning, Urban Design, and Industrial Design. Our professional approach and philosophy is premised on delivering a product reecting the highest level of expertise, quality, and emphasis on design integrity, earning us continued trust and respect clients and colleagues. Principal Landscape Architect, V.C. Hefti will lead the beginning process. Moving into design renement and contract documents will phase over to Associate Landscape Architect, Jake Coryell, taking charge as Project Manager. In our collective minds, this is not a traditional design project. The manner of space program and function, especially relating to the surrounding neighborhood, College Thomas Mann, Ministere des Sports, Train Station, connections to University Paris Diderot, The National Library, and Parc de Bercy, will inform the design of Cadets de la France Libre Parc and the block it occupies.

We understand the residents goal for a multipurpose urban park to suit the varied demographics of the area. From design charrettes with neighborhood residents, government representatives, and University representatives, and other interested parties, we will gather incite on program elements desired for the park. Preliminary surveys have informed a program of: general recreation, aesthetic through route, areas for reading and repose, childrens play area, a safe place for urban youth, leisure and eating spaces for urban professionals and students, and an aesthetic congruent with historic elements, while taking on modernized forms from around the area. Given the cultural heritage and history, it is within both the aesthetic formulation and the cultural mind-set to remix the classical French garden and Architectural style with a modernized landscape in both appearance and function. Survey comments suggest dislike for the current design, as a wasted through space and suggestions were made to make it an event location. Responding to surveys and limited space, our design concept is to maximize space with multifunctional park features, functioning for different demographics at different times of the day. Our firm will conducted studies of use times of this and similar parks to determine projected use times, to best determine the integration of desired programmatic elements for optimal mixed-use functionality and flexibility. Our budget is estimated at $$$$/sq. ft. at a total of $1,850,000 for ####sq. ft. As part of our firms services we request the approval to conduct an RfP, conducted for local artists to design park elements to enhance cultural identity, in addition to stimulating the local economy, and furthering the sense of local pride and ownership. We recommend funding at state and national level is sought for artist grants, lowering the cost of construction. Partnering with the local Universitys Industrial Arts Department may further reduce the budget. Projected date of completion is August 2013 with construction beginning May 2013. We feel this date is feasible provided the design team is selected by July 2012, assuring all contract documents are completed and available for review prior to the construction date.

CONSULTING TEAM
COMMUNITY
This is a complex project with many stakeholders, each with a unique perspective. All input should be considered. However viewpoints often conict, which requires a consultant with skills to listen, build consensus, and bring differences to resolution.

PARIS 13E, Cadets de la France Libre Parc

The redesign of Libre Parc is a significant project.

PARTNER WITH LOCAL DESIGN TEAM

The consultant team must have experience in international relations, to insure a collaborative approach. The consultant should represent a strong voice and advocate for the design amenity of Cadets de la France Libre Parc.

*
This small urban park is wasted space acting as a bypass for users between Rue Thomas Mann, Rue du Chevaleret, and Rue des Grands Moulins.

PARTNER WITH LOCAL GOVERNMENT

STATEMENT of PROBLEM

The redesign will require the consultant team to work closely with the local government with respect to maintaining and operating the park. The team must navigate through the approval process, providing exibility to all departments input.

URBAN PUBLIC SPACE

Strong programming of activities, amenities, and events are crucial in creating an enlivened public space. These episodic and daily activities give park visitors reasons to stay and return. Creating a comprehensive expense budget and revenue generation plan is fundamental for the ongoing nancial health, and overall operations of the park. Long term care and stewardship of this open space that will insure its continued value to the community in the long run.

DESIGN SIGNIFICANCE

The park aims to make connections, both literal and aesthetic, from the 13E district to the 12th. Beginning at the Train Station, to University Paris Diderot, to The National Library, and across Pl. Simone de Beauvoir to Parc de Bercy. This connection takes the greater aim of establishing a park network, with unique event nodes along the route.

* * * *
While it is important to maintain these bypass, the park can have far greater function in serving the surrounding community.
RUE

URBAN CONTEXT

The streetscape, buildings and public realm that surround and incorporate Libre Parc contribute to its unique sense of place. The park edges do not stop at the street curb, they extend to the facades of all the buildings surrounding the park and beyond those edges by suggesting a lynchpin link as mentioned above. Views of the park from and to surrounding buildings are a component of the parks urban character and should be considered in the design process.

RECREATION RE-MIX

Phase Two begins with a time-use demographic analysis of the Parc. The information found in the analysis will essentially, provide us with program elements of several different parks (example. morning, noon, evening). The concept of the re-mixed park is merging these different parks into one, by creating multipurpose and multifunctional site elements. These site elements will be arranged in a sequence of spaces to best suit the uses.

REFLECTIONS EVIDENCE

REFLECTION MEMO
TO: Steven Hammer FROM: VC Hefti

Two ideas presented in this course had profound prevailing impacts. First is genre, specifically the notion of the mixed-genre. The re-mix notion has become one of the base theories in my Landscape Architectural practice. A series of discussions and reflections on the concept mixed-genre have dedicated blog posts exploring the concept in literal, figurative format and several contexts. The mixed-genre has entered my common design vernacular as a well-suited notion for conjunctive terminology in design genre. Prior blogs have had such a notion, linking an article on Giants Causeway to a Led Zeppelin album cover or discussing winter snow typologies with Calvin & Hobbes comics. I am furthering the thought with my professional blog, sometimes merely as a mash-up of article sources or media types, or stretching the topic to re-mix designs with theories, abstracts, pictures, songs, etc. The second impact from course content is overall professionalization. Weaving professionalization with technology and the digital self while reviewing how this reflects the actual self and the desired perception depicted to the audience. This basic notion that we highlighted has furthered my understanding of marketing and branding. What are you telling your day to day audience about who you are? The idea is reflected in clothing, posture, vocabulary. The professionalization of such things, is to uniquely define a self that is hard working, serious, and intelligent, but also maintains a sense of humour and airy breath of frivolity. All of these characteristics can be finely-tuned marketed. Digitally, everything from graphics, logo selection, business card, to signature, to the picture you choose as your desktop, says something about you and in a way defines you, just as the content people can observe in online media connected to the digital self. I find these lessons highly valuable and something to always keep in mind, how is the audience perceiving me?

This evidence proves my thorough engagement in the class. My blog posts [including about 12 draft posts, yet to be polished out] and expansion, compartmentalization and definition of digital self further proves my participation in course content. I have interlinked all my web presence as much as possible. And now have four working blogs divided by content (1. quotes and random inspiring pictures, 2. a comic strip 3. professional design 4. short stories, poems, and random knowledge gained). There are several students who I connect with as professional colleagues, which of whoms blogs I follow and comment on, several followed on twitter, 2 added on facebook, and three on LinkedIn. While the argument could be made that I have missed a few classes, I have always contacted a peer for updates. When present, I more than make up for the absences, participating fully. While the rest sat still with no response, I would enter the discussion. I was always engaged and interested, taking thorough notes on lectures and giving serious contemplation to topics discussed. Im going to be very blunt in this: most students just go to class, apathetically listen, get marginal work in on time and then forget everything after finals week. I Sir, am nothing like those students. Therefore, I can confidently assert that I have earned an A in this course. I was a Collition Thesis Award Finalist, and therefore I have no regrets about the choice I made to fix my thesis rather than attend the presentations. I attended all of my colleagues thesis presentations in professional attire and manner. It is easily arguable to say what lessons you would have us learn from presenting and watching the presentations, I sufficiently learned on a more professional environment and tailored to my profession. I ask for that to be considered in your deliberations. Thank you.
