Looking Ahead
The ELA Leadership Team is making plans for a June, 2013 Summer Institute. The purpose of this instititute is to develop a cohort of teacher leaders at each grade across the state to gain the depth of understanding needed to meet the expectations of the common core standards by implementing the MAISA units The long term vision of this effort is that it would become the basis for the ELA professional learning infrastructure not just around the units, but also for sharing student work and creating additional resources. The expectation is that this would become a multi year institute. Financial support for teacher attendance could be aligned with School Improvement and the LEA consolidated applications for Title I or Title II A budgets (4 days, $400 registration, plus lodging and mileage).

Talking points:
LEA talking points: 1. Phase I MAISA Units are available for teachers to utilize. They can be found on the MAISA web site. 2. Phase II MAISA Units will be available after August 9, 2012. 3. Consider potential teacher leaders and the support for participation in the ELA Institute. ISD talking points: 1. Atlas Rubicon Public Site will be ready for use for final MAISA Units and Lessons by August of 2012. 2. Plan on attending a Phase II Unit rollout on August 9th. 3. Share and discuss local transition guides with local administrators. 4. Discuss as an ISD/RESA how you might configure and support the ELA Institute.
