Dear Dean McInnes: Over the years, corporate responsibility has become an important topic one that has

s led companies to institute such programs and publicize their efforts through various media outlets. Most importantly, more people are now concerned with doing the right thing and businesses are increasingly using the commercial market to champion social causes and promote ethical decisions. The message of corporate responsibility is a well-served for college students as we prepare to enter the workforce. It is also a lesson that must be learned in context, and not simply by reading a textbook. We, as the Black Business Student Association have accepted this challenge. As an organization that is dedicated to preparing our members for the realities of the business world, we are committed to promoting philanthropic efforts to increase the awareness throughout our membership and the Red Raider community. This year, we have chosen to feature Fallen Whistles during our first annual Fashion for a Cause, a fashion show highlighting philanthropies with impactful missions. Fallen Whistles is a campaign for peace in Congo, where the worlds largest war is being waged. For the past decade, nearly 6 million people have lost their lives and roughly 1,5oo continue to die daily. Falling Whistles aims to assist the children who, because they are too young to fight, are sent into battlefields armed with merely whistles. Supporters can purchase whistles from Falling Whistles and wear their protest to become whistle-blowers for peace. The primary benefit of the fashion show will be increasing awareness of the war being waged in the Republic of Congo. Other benefits include skill development for our members as the committee members will gain hands on experience in project management, marketing, and networking. This event will be open to the public and we will actively market outside of campus, thereby showcasing what Texas Tech University and Rawls College of Business students are capable of putting together. The Falling Whistles charity fashion show will be held Thursday, October 14, 2010 at the Frazier Alumni Pavilion from 7 pm to 10 pm. We are seeking a sponsorship to cover the cost of renting the facility, $400, and the cost of purchasing 12 whistles, approximately $500. The whistles will adorn the twelve participating models during the show and will be raffled off to audience members at the conclusion. We hope you agree that this purposeful event is a worthwhile cause and will decide to partner with us. Thank you for your consideration,
