HON SECRETARYS REPORT 2011

As at writing, 11 months have gone by since the last Annual General Meeting and there have been quite a few changes on and off the field. MCA is pleased and welcomes a new state affiliate in Terengganu Cricket Association which now ensures all states in Malaysia are affiliated to it. A lot of cricket activities all round the country, mainly Klang Valley. The Premier League was competitive with higher caliber foreign players. Kedah triumphed again. SUKMA for non-core sports was held in Klang Valley and Negeri Sembilan were clear victors. Local tournaments like Tunku Imran Trophy, R S Pillay Trophy, KAF, Nava Sheild, Stonor Sheild, Piala Perisai Raja-Raja went on as usual. Undoubtedly the highlight of the calendar was our progression to ICC WCL Division 4. Moving up 2 levels was rare with Afghanistan achieving such a feat more of that in the Development Report. Our U-14 boys, in a smaller fashion, grabbed the limelight too by winning the SEA Cup U-14 Trophy held in Thailand.

MCA ADMINISTRATION
Some changes were made within the administration staff, seeking a balance between ensuring better service to Affiliates and enhancing cricket development. With the new structure, our Executive Secretary, V. Clarence Selvam was re-designated to the position of General Manager Finance & Administration. The timing was apt that he was selected by Olympic Council of Malaysia to attend the Advance Sports Management Course. Later in the year, Asian Cricket Council had organized the ACC Management Course which was attended by Clarence, Vijayalingam and Rahimi. Having been promoted to Div 4 and regaining some prominence, we see the importance of beefing up the MCA Administration in order to provide support to the game as a whole. In addition, now that Florida (USA) has pulled out from being host of the ICC World Cricket League Division 4, without haste, MCA has expressed its intention to host the tournament which could be held in the 3rd or 4th quarter of 2012.

MCA CONSTITUTION
The new MCA constitution was approved by the Sports Commissioners Office on 1st July 2011. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Wilfred, Gopal, Alex De Silva & Anand Ponnudurai for seeing this through.

WEBSITE
The project to revamp the MCA website has started and we are all looking forward to a fresher & interactive website.

COMMUNITY
To further brand this plot of land that the Kinrara Oval is sitting on as kawasan lapang, we organized a family day for a business network called Entrepreneur Organization (EO). Kanga cricket, magic show, repelling, helicopter rides and hot air balloon were some of the main activities organized that drew the crowd around Kinrara Oval.

SPONSORS My report will not be complete without expressing our sincere appreciation and gratitude to National Sports Council, Olympic Council of Malaysia, International Cricket Council, Asian Cricket Council for their continuous support and assistance to MCA. I also take this opportunity to thank and commend all our sponsors - Nestle (Malaysia) Berhad, SportExcel, Fusion Excel Brands (M) Sdn Bhd, Sunway Construction Sdn Bhd, IJM Construction Sdn Bhd, Bauer (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, KPS Fueling Solutions Sdn Bhd and Astro Arena (Broadcast Partner) for all their support and contribution provided to MCA in our continuous efforts to develop and promote the game of cricket in Malaysia.

UPCOMING EVENTS
The MCA Administration is expecting very busy months ahead. In May, we will be hosting the ACC U-16 Elite Cup 2012 followed by the ACC U-19 Asia Cup in June. Simultaneously, the ICC Annual Conference will be held in Kuala Lumpur. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for MCA to host such an event of this magnitude, especially in this part of the world.

Finally, as said earlier, a few changes were made and some tweaking here and there, the results.encouraging if not enormous!!
