ABOUT PERSONAL MANAGEMENT:

The CEO regards personal management out of all aspects the most important aspect in performance, he believes that along with technical skills personal management plays an anchoring role. For instance he says time management helps you achieve an enhanced capacity for doing work. Through personal management, personal as well as professional problems are solved its all about planning for instance at the start of the day you make a schedule and if you are able to act on it, it becomes a lot easier. Regarding strengths and weaknesses he reckons that mostly everybody is aware of his/her strength and weaknesses, you get the idea from yourself and through your wellwishers who help you analyze yourself and tell you to improve weak areas, then by adequate help and initiative you can improve, but working on just your weaknesses can lead to failure you should use your strengths. As a CEO management and social skills are the key strengths through he takes everybody along, understand and educate them and be a role model to inspire and motivate them. Like he says if you want employees to tell

the truth and honest at work you have to set an example, he further says that if he wants answers he has to stay very correct. He also suggests that weaknesses are to be addressed. He also believes that technical skills are necessary but they take you at a certain start and level but rest of the steps you have to climb through your own social skills and ability, in addition your personality, attitude and character are the most influencing factors in your life. It is a character that makes you a good human being and brings you long term success. The CEO state that competency as well as quality if not continuously improved affects your performance badly. Up gradation is extremely important. He says your tomorrow should be better than today, similarly employees have to be developed with regard to the hospital, he believes in continuous training, so every employee gets training even if he or she intends to leave. As a person he certainly believes in improving himself and suggests there is always room for more, additional knowledge and more polishing of skills is required for future. When asked about role of reactivity, he told that its all about future planning and thinking ahead. If you will try to remain in the past you will not succeed. A very interesting example he gave was, that the past is behind, this is present and all else lies in future, so whatever we are left is with unseen future. Future then becomes crucial, thats what our religion says that we have to plan for a hereafter and practically thats what everybody else know cares about is the future.

TIME MANAGEMENT:
The CEO says that he daily comes to office on time and avoid coming late and fulfils all commitments on time, in everything he believes in to the point discussion and whatever has been decided should not be discussed again to avoid the wastage of time and

confusion. With proper time management balance in everything can be attained like personal life, work life, religion practices and all other things like time spent on internet, computer and daily reports. He says that the greatest benefit of proper time management is the satisfaction he gets from accomplishing tasks in time, i-e that he has given every related matter due time, this gives him mental peace and also provides time for extra work that effects him positively. His energy level is highest early in the day, prime time is morning till noon, however the work activities continue till evening. The tasks are completed according to their respective priorities, the critical and important tasks are completed as and when required, however usually there is little time left for nice to do activities such as any entertaining program on television due to a hectic schedule. According to him the most common time wasters are mainly the visitors, which include employees coming with issues and request, but not all employees visit only certain managers come. Regarding perfection, he is not a perfectionist but believes in certain standards/quality which he regard that has to be maintained. As a worker he is flexible and states that some portion of disorganization, procrastination and personal needs contribute to the wastage of time. In environmental time wasters, meetings and discussions mostly waste time daily. He says that some announced meetings that usually prolong waste time and discussions that are sometimes unannounced also result in the wastage of time. Rest telephone calls are attended by the secretary so they dont bother much, visitors are mostly subjected to appointments, and unsolicited mails are very few.

He definitely thinks that time innovations help a lot e.g. He told that speed dialing saves time and advancement in technology is certainly helping. When asked about delegation of authority he totally believes in it and says that in his top team everyone has his/her own area. He says that everyone is only responsible when due authority is given. One should delegate with autonomy so that the managers are accountable and can be questioned, in the absence of autonomy one cannot blame any manager. A very interesting example he gave us was of the cricket team that a captain cannot on himself bat, bowl and field, it is his team who has to do. So everyone has his /her own importance and expertise. He says that ideal is to do all like proper sleep, diet, exercise, holidays and mediating/reflecting , but actually his sleep is less due to work, diet is given importance, there is no or little holidays, he does connect to GOD and says his prayers, but does not get time for exercise which he thinks he should do on regular basis. When asked about work family conflict he says that he does not take work home and completes the daily work at the hospital but yes he has to plan for the next day at home, similarly there is little family work conflict. The CEO experiences stress due to work overload and attending frequent meetings.

STRESS MANAGEMENT:
About the handling of the stress the CEO states that it depends upon the personality of the person, some people do not take stress and every individual is different , but no one is limitless and so everyone experiences stress and handling stress is a difficult job. Regarding stress creating problem at work the CEO experiences that routine schedule does not cause many problems and they should not, however any unforeseen incident or unusual happening creates some difficulties, for that he says systems must be in

place to handle such situations, if systems are good problems can be easily tackled. He personally feels that stress is unpleasant, as it poses a challenge and makes you think more out of the box and requires you to analyze the situation. He agrees that stress give you the drive to perform better, exert yourself more and thus makes you function. Regarding threats he basically does not experience any physical threat due to stress, rather he feels a challenge only if stress is short term, but if stress is constant and long term his health get affected and his blood pressure rises, irritability increases and social life gets disturbed. He believes that perception plays a major part in having stress e.g. he says when a difficult situation comes we usually do not perceive it rightly and experience a lot of stress but say after 20 days we look back and say that it was not that difficult, this is because we have limited vision which is a clear proof of influence of perception. He advises that when a stressful event occurs one should stop unreason, think about solution and the big picture and that will make it easier and less stressful. As an experience campaigner, whenever he face stressful situation, he thinks and reasons it i-e why it happened and now how to deal with it, so he does not panic whenever something occurs. With regard to coping up with stress he immediately addresses the issue does cause analysis. he asks for gods help and support , he also get supported from family and friends. He does not experience any internal stress, for him stress is mainly external, whatever is happening in the environment effects him that include all the happenings like competition any natural calamity e.t.c. In external sources of stress the most stressful factor At job is that as in a hospital their customers are patient and their care is of prime importance, any incidence in which a patient is badly affected creates stress whether it is intentional or un intentional by the hospital staff. In environment the pollution like contamination of water and air, natural

hazards, epidemic diseases, noise, overcrowding and media reporting about crashes and bomb blast creates stress. In personal life keeping up with relatives is tough due to a busy life so relationships are badly affected and cause stressful situations. When asked about desire to accumulate, he reckons that as long as we will keep looking at other people and their possessions and we will include ourselves in the race of materialism and we will continuously experience stress. So, we should look at people below us because only then we will be content and we should thank god for everything that we have and we should be content and happy. He grades that the jobs that are more demanding and have lesser autonomy create more stress e.g. paramedical staff duties than the jobs which are riskiest, busiest and have high autonomy. He believes that change is always there and as a manager he has to deal with it, if change is not coped up with, it will lead to serious consequences. In personal life he has also faced many changes but he says that change is not stressful if it is positive. He says that daily hassles creates more stress, while in the case of big events you can overcome them with time, daily tasks are 4 hours upon you. As a doctor he says that medically also daily work activities create more problems.

EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE:
He calls this emotional handling he told us that at work no matter how much worried you are, you have to be composed and forget your all worries and so you have to listen to employees problems, understand them and give them consolation and you have to tell them that we will manage everything and that any matter is not a big deal.

The CEO recognizes the impact of emotional intelligence and says that if he is not emotionally intelligent his team would never function and persons will quit and run away.

ANGER MANAGEMENT:
Regarding anger management he says that different personalities have different experiences of anger. He believes that by nature he luckily experiences lesser anger and gets angry very late, and whenever he gets angry he does not express it. When asked about expression of anger, at team level as a head and a leader he does not express anger, and he says that this behavior is sometimes becomes his strength and some time it becomes his weakness in certain situations. But he says that appropriate anger should be expressed. He says that people around him mostly trigger anger. Peoples attitudes, personality and their behavior influence it. He also believes that situations are also created by people around us so it is basically the others who trigger anger. From himself he experiences lesser anger as he is a self controlled person. By nature he does not express anger; he does not like to get angry. At work whoever has done wrong he reasons that it was unintentional and with family and friends he tries to forgive, so he does not boil inside and let go things. As a religious person while coping with anger he seeks gods help and tries to control his anger and pray all the time for the Superiors support and mercy. He agrees that cooler thoughts lead to controlled behavior, so he gives thoughts importance when it comes to angry situations.

The CEO believes that you only get short-term attention of others through anger, frankly he thinks that there is no real advantages of anger and in his opinion anger does not bring the best out of you rather worst out of you.

In disadvantages of anger he states : During anger you stop thinking intelligently You utter inappropriate words which you regret later And you hurt other persons feelings He says that his behavior is quiet and calm while he is angry. With regard to using humor, with friends he is highly humorous in angry situations but at work he uses less humor and he is considerate.

CONFLICT MANAGEMENT:
When working with the uncomfortable colleagues he says that he does not let the other person feel that he is not comfortable, rather he tries to work along and co-operate and help other person to create more collusive environment. When successfully mediating in a conflict his approach is to understand both parties priorities and he puts an effort to pinpoint the problem and understand why it occurred , further he tells them that he is neutral and unbiased and he tries to reach a common ground and make a decision that is excepted by all. In situations where some people make serious mistakes the CEO tries to understand and prefer decisions according to the policy, the decision is according to the offence made

and the rules attached. In family matters he tries to find out the reason and mostly forgives. When faced with a disagreement with a colleague at work his priority is to always educate the other person and communicate the interest of the both. SUGGESTIONS : After the interview and the above mentioned conclusion we would like to recommend the following : with aging the CEO must take care of his health issues properly. So that he is able to cope and make his career prolonged. He should consider the reality that today the only constant thing is CHANGE. And he should try to cope up with it, as change is becoming more rapid. SHIFA INTERNATIONAL HOSPITAL is now facing a competition from the newly build QUAID-E-AZAM HOSPITAL. Though this hospital will take time to reach the level of SHIFA. However due to this competition, so as a CEO of shifa he should now be more proactive and think critically. And this all will require his more intensive efforts. As in todays world we can see that stress is a major role player for the cause of many other health issues. So, the CEO should pay a serious attention towards managing stress. The CEO is facing high level of managerial burnout due to work load and old age. So he must take more rest in any way he can. And he may also go to some holidays so the pressure is released.
