FOREWORD This Indian Standard was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards, after the draft finalized by the Paints ( Other than Industrial Paints ) and Allied Products Sectional Committee had been approved by the Chemical Division Council. This standard was first published in 1950 and then revised in 1965 and 1975. Through the use of this specification it was felt that for the same colour, suppliers had to submit two samples, one for each type, which increases the work of testing authorities. It was therefore prescribed that the material shall be supplied only in brushing consistency, but shall be suitable for spraying also using thinners. In this revision the minimum mass in kg per 10 litres of the material has been modified as 9.0 for finishing. This standard prescribes colour-wise requirement for wet opacity based on data collected on interior enamels by Ministry of Defence. Moreover fineness of grind and gloss values have been quantified. This revision achieves full alignment with JSS 3018 Specification for paint, RFU, enamel, interior, brushing ( lead restricted ), and JSS 3019 &Specification for paint, RFU, enamel, interior, brushing ( lead paint ), issued by the Department of Standardization, Ministry of Defence, Government of India. The composition in Annex E. of the technical committee responsible for preparation of this standard is given

For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this standard is complied with, the final value, observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test or analysis, shall be ro~unded offin accordance with IS 2 : 1960 Rules for rounding off numerical values ( revised ). The number of significant places retained in the rounded off value should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard.
