Stage Early Stage 1

Teacher places four different shaped, cardboard, windows on the walls in the classroom or gym; a circle window, a square window, triangle window and diamond window. Description: Teacher calls out an action such as "hop to the square window" and students must hop to the square window. Teacher calls out a new action such as "jump to the circle window", "walk backwards to the triangle window" and "dance to the diamond window". Students will be challenged to identify the shapes as well as move their bodies

Why is this game important for this stage? This game is important for this stage because it involves the following strands (Syllabus (Pgs. 38-39)): Games and Sports Strand: Locomotor skills- students will be walking, hopping, skipping and jumping toward the windows Games- spatial awareness with directions Active Lifestyle Strand: Ways to be active- students develop fun movement skills when participating Aerobics Interpersonal Relationships Strand: Communication- active listening skills to identify the different movement and shapes

What are the PDHPE skills involved in this game? How? Skills involved: 1) Communicating: COES1.1 Expresses feelings, needs and wants in appropriate ways This is a simple response game, so students will respond to simple instructions The usage of correct vocabulary for body movements 2) Decision Making: DMES1.2 Identifies some options available when making simple decisions Choosing the correct window 3) Interacting: INES1.3 Relates well to others in work and play situations 4) Moving: MOES1.4 demonstrates a general awareness of how basic movement skills apply in play and other introductory movement experiences. Explanation Organisation: Have players form a large circle and space themselves at arms length around it, facing the middle. Teacher calls out different aerobic activities and shows students what to do; students also get turns in directing the class. A sequence will be formed Description of Activity Begin with stretches Teacher plays music Jog clapping hands above head, behind and in front Sailor Jumps: Jump with one leg forward and the other back while swinging arms Jumping Jacks: Jump legs and arms apart sideways, then together. Side Kicks: Kick legs from side to side and wave with hands Mule Kicks: Kick straight legs behind Front Kicks: Kick legs out in front Skier Jumps: Jump from side to side Bell Jumps: Jump forward and back X-Jumps: Jump to cross and uncross ankles Use any locomotor movements to move circle CW or ACW. Cool Dancing Each class member get to have a turn to direct the class

This game is important for this stage because it involves the following strands (Syllabus (Pgs. 40-41)): Games and Sports Strand: Non Locomotor skills- students in this warm up perform a range of stretches that involve the whole body Locomotor skills- students will be walking, jogging and jumping around the circle Games- students will be standing at arms length around the circle Active Lifestyle Strand: Ways to be active- stretching parts of the body before and after activities Aerobics Interpersonal Relationships Strand: Communication- active listening skills Peers- students cooperating with the activities when other students are directing the class What are the PDHPE skills involved in this game? How? Skills involved: 1) Communicating: COS1.1 communicates appropriately in a variety of ways Students have turns in directing the class: speak loud and clearly 2) Decision Making: DMS1.2 recalls past experiences in making decisions Choosing the right aerobic movements 3) Interacting: INS1.3 develops positive relationships with peers and other people Students cooperate as a group by taking turns. Students listen and respond 4) Moving: MOS1.4 demonstrates maturing performance of basic movement and compositional skills in a variety of predictable situations Students will be performing a variety of movements. They can come up with a sequence; run, jump and kick.

Stage Stage 2, year3

Explanation Organisation: Define the boundaries of the play area. Choose 3 players to be the Germ Bugs. Each Germ Bug holds a beanbag in his or her hand and stands in the middle of the play area to start the game. The rest of the players are ordinary bugs who scatter throughout the play area. Description of activity: On the Signal GO! Germ Bugs chase the other Bugs anywhere in the play area and try to touch them with the beanbag. If the bugs are touched by the Germ Bug, they become Dead Bugs and must get into the dead bug position be lying on their back with hands and feet in the air and wriggling all over! Another Bug may come along and free a dead bug by forming a bridge over this player and holding this position for 3 slow counts. Allow different children to become the Germ Bugs and let the game continue until a warm up effect has been reached. Why is this game important for this stage? This game is important for this stage because it involves the following strands (Syllabus (Pgs. 42-43)): 1) Game and Sports Strand Games - Spatial awareness: students in this game create space to run in order to avoid being caught -Minor games: chasing game Locomotors skills: this game involves a lot of running Playing the game: team work 2) Interpersonal Relationships Strand Peers- students will be able to make and maintain friendships 3) Active Lifestyle Strand Ways to be active- minor games involving fun runs

What are the PDHPE skills involved in this game? How? Skills involved: 1) Communicating: COS2.1 Uses a variety of ways to communicate with and within groups Germ bugs have to communicate with one another in order to trap the Bugs. 2) Decision making: DMS2.2 Makes decisions as an individual and as a group member Bugs have to make the decision on where to run to avoid Germ bugs. Bugs also can make the decision to save a fellow bug who is a Dead Bug 3) Interacting: INS2.3 makes positive contributions in group activities Each student contributes to their role, and have a turn at other roles Equipment and Teaching cues Three beanbags, four marked cones, whistle

Organisation: - Play on dry land or in a suitable pool. - Divide the class into teams of six to eight players - Use 2 balls for each circle of 68 players Description: Have players form circles of six to eight players, with players spacing themselves arms length apart and facing inward. For each circle, give a ball to any two opposite players. On the signal chase kick pass the ball in a CW direction to the next player to make one ball chase the other. Play the game again, but send the balls in an ACW direction. Why is this game important for this stage? This game is important for this stage because it involves the following strands (Syllabus (Pgs. 44-45)): Games and Sports Strand: Manipulative skills- students kick the ball around the circle focusing on the distance and speed Games- this minor ball game will prepare the players for a game of soccor Playing the game- Teamwork to try and chase the first ball Active Lifestyle Strand: Ways to be active- Moderate ball game; when the ball get moving things get pretty intense Interpersonal Relationships Strand: Peers- students are developing friendships and working relationships

Skills involved: 1) Decision Making: DMS3.2 makes informed decisions and accepts responsibility for consequences Choosing the right technique for kicking and passing the ball 2) Interacting: INS3.3 acts in ways that enhance the contribution of self and others in a range of cooperative situations Maximises the participation of all members of the circle 3) Moving: MOS3.4 refines and applies movement skills creatively to a variety of challenging situations Students will be jogging on the spot and kicking the ball to the next person in the ring
