Guidelines for Project Report

OBJECTIVE
Project Report are undertaken by students to develop in them the ability to apply theoretical and practical knowledge to solve real life problems related to industry, academic institution and research laboratories. Students are advised to choose areas relevant to the needs of IT Industry.
The student will submit a synopsis at the beginning of the semester for the approval from the project committee in a specified format. Synopsis must be submitted within two weeks. The first defense, for the project work, should be held within two months time. Project Report must be

submitted in a specified format to the project committee for evaluation purpose at the end of semester.

FORMAT FOR PREPARATION OF PROJECT REPORT


1. The table and figures shall be introduced in the appropriate places. Chapter includes the following 1.Introduction 2.Literature survey 3.Methodology/work plan 4.Analysis &Interpretation 5.Recommendation &Conclusion 6.References /Bibliography 7. Appendices

PAGE DIMENSION AND BINDING SPECIFICATIONS

Dimensions The dimension of pages for the Project report should be A4/legal size. Use of any other size of page size such as foolscap, custom size, etc. should be avoided Sheets Coloured sheets and transparent sheets of varied colours may be used. Binding All project reports shall be hard-bound, and two copies shall be submitted by each student on completion of the projectto the Department.Also,each student must hv its individual copy for future use in form of hard bound.. The colour of the binding for B.Tech. students shall be black. The contents of cover page shall be embossed or screen printed on the binding. The student intends to attach CD containing the software, data, demo/simulation, he/she shall attach a sealed CD holder at the back side inner cover of the project reports.

Cover Page and title page A specimen copy of the Cover page and Title page of the report are given in Appendix 1.
Bonafide Certificate The Bonafide Certificate shall be in one &half line/double line spacing using

Font Style Times New Roman and Font Size 12 as per the format in Appendix 2. 3.3 Certificate of Authentication The Certificate of Authentication is a certificate from the students side mentioning that the work is original and that it has not been submitted elsewhere for consideration. The certificate shall be in one &half line /double line spacing using Font Style Times New Roman and Font Size 12, as per the format in Appendix 3. Abstract Abstract should be at least one page synopsis of the Project typed one &half line /double line spacing, Font Style Times New Roman and Font Size 12. Table of Contents The table of contents should list all material following it as well as any material, which precedes it. The title page, Bonafide Certificate and Certificate of Authentication will not find a place among the items listed in the Table of Contents but the page numbers of which are in lower case Roman letters. One and a half spacing should be adopted for typing the matter under this head. A specimen copy of the Table of Contents of the project report is given in Appendix 4.

figures in the text. One and a half spacing should be adopted for typing the matter under this head. 3.8 List of Symbols, Abbreviations and Nomenclature One and a half spacing should be adopted or typing the matter under this head. Standard symbols, abbreviations etc. should be used. Sections and Chapters The Sections containing chapters may be broadly divided into 3 parts, viz. (i) Introductory, (ii) Section containing chapters developing the main theme of the project work (iii) and Conclusion. The main text of the chapters will be divided into several divisions and sub-divisions. 3.10 Each chapter should be given an appropriate title. Tables and figures in a chapter should be placed in the immediate vicinity of the reference where they are cited. Footnotes should be used sparingly. They should be typed single space and placed directly underneath in the very same page, which refers to the material they annotate.

Appendices Appendices are provided to give supplementary information, which is included in the main text may serve as a distraction and cloud the central theme. Appendices should be numbered using Arabic numerals, e.g. Appendix 1, Appendix 2, etc.

Appendices, Tables and References appearing in appendices should be numbered and referred to at appropriate places just as in the case of chapters. Appendices shall carry the title of the work reported and the same title shall be made in the contents page also.

List of References The listing of references should be typed 4 spaces below the heading REFERENCES in alphabetical order in single spacing left justified. The reference material should be listed in the alphabetical order of the first author. The name of the author/authors should be immediately followed by the year and other details. There should be at least 15-20 references in all under this head. There shall be separate listing for papers, technical reports, PPT presentations, books and websites. A typical illustrative list given in Appendix 5 relates to the citation example quoted above.

3.12 Table and figures - By the word Table, is meant tabulated numerical data in the body of the project report as well as in the appendices. All other non-verbal materials used in the body of the project work and appendices such as charts, graphs, maps, photographs and diagrams may be designated as figures. 4. 4.1 4.2 4.3 TYPING INSTRUCTIONS The impression on the typed copies should be black in color. One and half spacing should be used for typing the general text. The general text shall be typed in the Font style Times New Roman and Font size 12 or 13. There should not be any type of page bordering in the project report on any page. .
