Christ the King Mission Statement

The People of Christ the King in Lombard are a welcoming, vibrant faith community building the kingdom of God through our many ministries. We celebrate our diversity, seeking to realize the gifts of each member of our parish, as we are all joined together under one faith, in a spiritual journey of evangelization, service to others, and a reverence for all life. In the Eucharist, we find new life, and bring this life to others through stewardship, education, and worship.

A Stewardship Prayer for May

Heavenly Father, Your Son ascended in great triumph to sit at your right hand. You sent your Spirit to watch over us, guide us and teach us to be better stewards of your abundant gifts. May this Spirit of wisdom make us better stewards of our planet. May your Spirit increase our awareness of the dignity of every human life, and show us the way to be better stewards of our neighbor. And through your Spirit, may we be inspired every day to live in accordance with the Gospel, and to give witness to our risen Lord. We ask this through Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

This month we are celebrating our first year anniversary. We have made 26 shawls, 21 capes, 42 lap robes, 195 small pillows for sitting comfort, 46 catheter covers, and 33 wheelchair or walker caddies for our seniors at DuPage Convalescent Center, Lexington House, and Beacon Hill. In addition, our ladies have crocheted 58 baby blankets some with matching booties or hats, and have made an additional 7 pairs of booties, and 22 baby hats for Womens Choice and Good Samaritan Hospital. We are now taking on another project, which is the Little Sisters of the Poor (St. Marys in Chicago). Its residents are retired nuns and the elderly. We would welcome the women in the parish who would like to join us in either knitting or crocheting. We meet on Wednesday at 1:00pm -3:00pm in the East Room, lower level of the Rectory. We have easy patterns and everyone is willing to help anyone with the desire to relearn how to knit or crochet. Your donations of yarn are always appreciated, so please spring clean your attics, basement, or closets and drop off any yarn that is laying about the house and doing nothing. We can put it to good use. God Bless you from the Ladies of the Shawl Ministry.

STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE
A sincere thank you to the 380 families of Christ the King that have contributed/committed to this years Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal. Your generosity and commitment to the greater needs of our Diocese is truly appreciated. Our appeal now is to the 1,020 households who have yet to make a contribution or commitment to the Appeal. We are almost to our goal of $52,435, and we need your help. If you have not made a contribution or commitment, we ask you to prayerfully consider doing so. Thank you, Business Office

STEWARDSHIP MOMENT
Jesus calls his disciples his friends and commands them to love one other as he has loved them. We are called to be stewards of this friendship; to love one another as Jesus loves us. Do we give serious attention to what this love requires of us? Does this require us to actively seek the welfare of others? What is the price of this friendship with the Lord?

The Footprints of God Peter: Keeper of the Keys

Follow this amazing Journey of adventure about Peter: The Rock and Keeper of the Keys: the rustic fisherman Jesus chosen to lead His Church. It was filmed completely on location in Rome and the Holy Land. You will follow Peter from Galilee to Jerusalem and to Rome. Why would Jesus choose a rugged, uneducated fisherman to lead His Church? The New Testament brings forth numerous examples of the primacy of Peter and the special prerogatives given to Peter by Jesus Christ. We will discover answers about the major role of Peter and the Papacy instituted by Jesus in the Saga of salvation, presented by Steven Ray, best seller author, dynamic speaker and convert to Catholic faith. THANK YOU FROM A SOLDIER Because we enclosed a letter in the shipping boxes, the Council of Catholic Women received this note for the items collected from the Parish for Operation Support Our Troops. Thank you so much for your generous support of me and my fellow deployed soldiers. Your care packages really made the holidays pass by quickly (which is a good thing here). While we would much rather be back home with our families, your support was a great reminder of home. God Bless You. Lets not forget all our military men and women who are away from their loved ones. Remember that the best gift you can send them is to pray for their safe return - soon. To learn more on how you can help, go to OSOT Illinois A Council of Catholic Women Community Concerns Project

DOING SOME SPRING CLEANING?

DONT FORGET THE MEDICINE CABINET
When youre doing your spring cleaning this year, add cleaning out the medicine cabinet to your list. Its very important to dispose of expired or unfinished medicines correctly. Some medications can be harmful if used by those for whom its not intended. There are a couple of ways to dispose of the unwanted medicine. One is that they can be dropped off at Lombard Pharmacy at 805 S. Main St. Leave the medication is the original bottle, but cross out you name. The other is to take the medicine out of its original container and mix it with kitty litter or used coffee grounds. Put the mixture into a plastic bag and put it in the garbage. The container can be recycled after you cross out personal information on the label. Talk to your pharmacist if you have any questions about how to dispose of your unwanted, outdated medicine. A reminder from the CCW Community Concerns Commission

Save the Date! 10/7/12 @ Noon Festival of Faith

Sunday, October 7 beginning with Noon Mass. We will have our first planning meeting for the Festival of Faith on Monday, May 21st. We will meet in the East Room of the rectory at 7:00 pm. All are welcome to join and bring ideas for the Festival. If you would like more information or have any questions please call Eileen at 630 396 6076 or email eileen@ctklombard.org.

Consecration of the Family

Almighty Father, we consecrate ourselves and our home to the Sacred Heart of Jesus who loves us with a tender and everlasting love. Strengthen us with Your grace that we might return His love in the way we treat, respect, and love each other. We welcome Jesus as a living member of our family and ask Him to the heart of our family. We accept Mary as our heavenly Mother and seek her protection and help in our daily lives. Heavenly Father, grant that our love may go beyond our home into the world so that we may do our part to build up Your kingdom, to feed the hungry, to help the poor, and to lead all souls to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Amen.
