The swift flow of the breeze,

That brings the small droplets of
rain;
Spatters on my face
Every breath I take in the rain
Makes me feel I am alive
I am here to live, to struggle
The moments that I walk in the rain
Remain in my memories forever
The memories that will never fade
The rain is a beauty in itself
Just to the saying
Beauty lies in the eyes of the
beholder
When the rain is gone
I feel I am lonely
And I am nowhere to be found.

husband. She adopted me as her
younger daughter and I started
calling her Mama. She was really
nice and I wondered if my mother
was also as nice as her. She also
me admitted to a new school.
The first day at my new school was
very embarrassing. I was very
dumb. My hair never stood in place
and I used to wear thick black
framed glasses and I had braces on
my teeth making me look like a geek.
Upon entering the class on the first
day, everyone started looking at me
as if I had been dropped off from
another planet. My teacher asked
me to introduce myself but I got so
nervous that I could not utter a
word. Everyone started laughing at
me and teasing me as I could not
even tell my name. I was upset. I
hung my head low and went to sit
on my bench. After the bell rang,
everyone started teasing me by
calling me a Geek.
Every day they bullied me but there
was no any way out. These things
distracted me on my studies as well.
I cried a lot everyday and was
depressed and frustrated due to my
friends' behavior. I, therefore,
always failed in every subject. I
spoke to my mama about my
problems in school and she
understood everything. She too told
me about her life that she had also
experienced the same thing when
she was young but now she had
become a successful doctor. She
inspired me a lot and encouraged
me. She was the only one who was
beside me, supporting me
throughout my life. She taught me
the real importance of hard work in
human life. She taught me to hold
the head high with fearlessness and
strong determination. Her words
encouraged me to build up my will
power.
I started working hard. I took exams
and I did well. Guess what, I stood
first in the class and also received
a gold medal. I was really happy
that day. So, I rushed very fast to
home to tell my mama that I had
won a gold medal. I knew that she
would be happier than me. She
hugged me tight in her arms and
said. Youll be one of the best
doctors in the world, when
suddenly she became unconscious
and fell down. We quickly took her
to the hospital but unfortunately on
the way, she took my name in her
last breath and left this world.
I am one of the best doctors in the
world. And I always pray that her
soul rests in peace!!
Hi! I am Dr. Alice. I am proud of
myself for being a successful doctor
and able to fulfill the dreams of my
"Mama" who adopted me. Let me
share with you the story of my life.
I was born in a happy family but
unfortunately, my parents happened
to die in an accident when I was
only five years old. There was no
one to look after me.
Once while walking down the street
alone on a sunny day, I saw some
street children playing with marbles.
I went and started playing with
them but they laughed and mocked
at me as if saying I didn't know how
to play. I felt upset and sat under a
roof all alone. I noticed a woman
staring at me; feeling pity for me.
She was well dressed and looked
well-off. She came towards me and
asked where I came from. As I was
small, I shared all of my information
with her. Indiscernably, the tears
trickled down my cheeks as I
uncovered my story. She wiped my
tears and held my hand and took me
to her home. Her house was big
and grand, enough to explore for
the entire day. She had a daughter
living with her but had lost her

You obviate my problems
I may be renounced in my life
Everyone could betray me or hurt
me
But your love is shown in special
ways
Even when you scold me
Somebody said that god could not
be everywhere
Therefore he made mothers
And I feel that somebody is always
right
All love in this world could be untrue
But not yours, my dearest mom
I may not be a respected person
But you are always superior to me
And I promise I will never leave you
Even if the entire world is against
you and me
Dont be angry with me, or hurt
yourself because of me
Dont be ashamed of yourself
because of me
Dont shed your precious tears
because of me
Because I may not pay back all your
deeds for me
These feelings may not reach you
But your daughter will always love
you
And I promise my dearest mom
I will always do whatever
Makes you feel good

My dear mom, I dont know
whether you understand me
But I know you have pleasant love
for me
Your generosity of love cannot be
accumulated
And I know you will never decrease
your love toward me
I may not be an obedient child
I may not fulfill your dreams
I may quarrel with you
I may never expose my love for you
But deep inside I always love you
my dear mom

Do you know
The precious thing in the world?
I think, you have never cared,
It is mothers love.
My mother is the one,
Who gave me birth.
And also the chance,
To see the earth
She cared about me,
Much more than herself
Like the protecting of books
Keeping it in bookshelves.
In my happiness,
She is the one who becomes happy.
In my sadness,
She is the one who becomes sad.
All the things,
With my mother, I share.
And above all the things is,
The care given by my mother.
Thats my mothers love.

People in my family tell me that I
was a naughty, funny, greedy and a
cute little boy, the youngest in our
family. I am told that I used to
argue with my mom about buying
almost everything in the market.
I remember one day of my childhood
which is the reason, I am still called
a naughty boy in my family.
It was a day when all my relatives
and friends had come to our place.
There was some kind of ceremony
which is held once a decade.
By noon, everyone had arrived and
they were all gathered in the visiting
room. I desperately wanted to go
out and play in such a balmy day,
but my mother sternly debarred me
from going outside. As I was
arguing with my mom, she got quite
fed up with me, and instead, sent
me to the kitchen to bring pop-corn
and juice to the guests. I was really
interested to go out to play, but
instead, my mother gave me some
work to do.
I wanted to show an angry reaction
to my mother, and I stomped my
way to the kitchen. I dont know
what I was thinking, but I removed
the lid of all the juice bottles, and
poured the juice on the floor, and
kicked the jar full of water. The
kitchen was now horribly flooded.
Finally, I locked the kitchen and with
the kitchen key in my pocket, I went
outside to play in the heaps of hay.
Inside the house, the whole 'party'
was searching for me. As they were
hunting for me, they noticed that the
kitchen door was locked.
My clever mother understood my
mischief and she came to the place
where she would always find me
playing in the hay.
She spotted me, and asked for the
key of the kitchen door. I lied to her
that I lost it on the hay.
My father broke the padlock using
a hammer and everybody stared in
shock, too stunned to speak.
The visitors returned hungry and so
was I that night. My father beat me
badly with a cane.

Save me, I am weeping aloud,
I know I am one among a huge
crowd.
The only friend I have are those
clouds,
Which makes me feel really proud.
My mother died when I was born,
Later, I was taken to a school to
learn,
I was behaved odd by everyone,
Like if I was not at all awesome.
My father was everything for me,
He was one who always loved me.
Suddenly, he died when I was four,
Then, there were tears and tears to
pour.
The only choice left for me is to die,
I want to visit where my parents lie.
I wish I could have a good life like
others do.
But I know, my dream will never
come true.
Save me I am still weeping aloud,
Help me, I am still crying aloud!!!

Whether you think so or
not, its the question that crosses
everyones mind- Is there really
that one person out there meant for
you? The one whom you are
completely loyal to, and you only
have eyes for each other. You both
have the same dreams and goals in
life, or desires that tie with complete
compatibility. The two of you find
each other amazing, just the way
you are. Theres an unexplainable
connection. Everything fits together
and nothing feels weird. If you have
experienced all those sentiments
above then you might have found
the one. You are up for a soul
mate!
In ancient times, the
Greeks believed humans were
created with four arms, four legs,
and a head bearing two faces.
However, the God of the Gods,
Zeus, feared that this would make
humans too powerful and so he split
them in half. Since then the mortals
are condemned to search for their
other half the rest of their lives. In
other words, we call this other half
soul mates.
There also are references
of soul mates one can find in books.
For instance, one of them I read
recently said that people can feel a
peculiar light emanating from their
soul mate or an aura that captivates
Soul mate
2025 Swikriti
Class: A2
them, so that in some ways two
people are pulled by a guiding force.
Its also known that there are
people, in fact plenty of them, who
come across their soul mates - be it
while walking down the streets,
shopping in bazaars or travelling in
public buses. However, often they
either just dont notice, or fail to
recognize each other. Doubtless,
theres very less evidence of its
credibility and no one knows how
true these theories are.
In modern times, it seems
more and more people are losing
faith in the concept of having a soul
mate. Nevertheless there still exist
some stubborn like me who still has
beliefs. And maybe I am correct in
my own ways. Maybe theres
someone made just for us, the best
partner we can ever have. Maybe
God has created that one for all and
maybe we just havent realized it.
Or maybe they are far away from
us, completely unknown. I mean,
who knows? Its a matter of luck
and time. When and where are we
going to meet them? Maybe today
itself! Whatsoever, soul mates are
forever until the lifes end and even
beyond death. They are the other
halves just like a river no matter
how fast it is, how wide or how dry
it may be the other side does exist.
All we need to do is to realize this,
and then venture in the pursuit.

I came from my house. It was my
first class in my new school. I was
a small boy with hair like a crown
of a cock and a chewing gum
always in my mouth. I thought it
was going to be a heart pounding
time for me to be in my class with
new and unknown people, new rules
and regulations, new way of
teaching and learning and many
more, but somehow I felt as if I was
with my old friends, my old
teachers, same classes, same
people. I had seen those faces
before.
Some people say Dont judge a
book by its cover. I tried to do so. I
gave my best to adapt to this unique
environment, but as I went on, I
started realizing and seeing the true
faces of my friends. I realized that
everybody was busy with their own
old friends, it was as if I did not or I
should say the new students did not
even exist. They didnt even bother
about the students who needed to
know more about the school, who
needed someone to guide them and
comfort them when they felt
homesick. So, the new students
were left alone like a 10 year old
child left in a jungle.
We began to make our own friends.
Many tried to go back to their own
families. There was a girl in my
class who always encouraged me
to do the right thing, who became
my honest guide in the school. She
was the one who was always ready
to help me, and support me to do
new and good things. I realised she
was the only true friend I had.
We went on with our daily work of
helping each other, appreciating
each other, supporting each other,
being the backbone of each other.
Our friendship grew stronger than
the Great Wall of China. We started
to share our secrets with each other.
We began to share our feelings and
experiences about our past and our
present. We had a feeling that
whenever we had something to
share with someone, we should
share it with ourselves first. So, it
went on like this.
One day she called me to a place.
It was my second year in the school.
She had a hint of urgency in her
eyes when she called me. When I
came to that place, she told me that
she had fallen in love with a person.
I asked, Who is the lucky boy?
Then without saying, she went off.
I was puzzled and didnt know what
to do. So I sat down and thought
for some time. After a few minutes
she came back and showed me his
photo. It was one of my close
friends. I felt happy for them but
really deep inside I could feel my
heart bleed. This latest news was
killing me from the inside. That night
I thought a lot about my feelings
towards her. Then I suddenly
realized that I was in love with her.
But I was confused...
But still, we talked daily. She would
tell me everything that happened
between them and I would go on
supporting her, however becoming
weaker from within. Then one day
she also realized her feeling towards
me, she also felt the same about me
as I felt about her. But she was also
confused as to what she should do.
Then, one day while we
were talking as usual, she
told me, I broke up with
him. What for? I asked,
but there was no reply. It was
the first time in my life that I
saw a glint of happiness in
her eyes. That day was the
happiest day of her life even
though she had broken up
with him. But we still
couldnt talk about how we
felt with each other. We
were, and still are confused
Is it really love?

It was one night,
Which made me jump with fright,
Everyone was asleep,
And I was left to dream.
Suddenly I heard a knock,
Which nearly loosened my frock.
I became so scared,
To open the door, I never dared.
Then a strange sound started to
come,
And was heard loud over the little
dorm.
It made my head spin round and
round,
To hear the same loud sound.
It made my head ache a lot,
No longer could I have fought.
I started to cry loud indeed,
Cause I was seriously in need.
One by one all awoke,
And I was the one they started to
poke.
More loudly I began to scream,
And woke up to find out it was just
a dream.
This gave me a little relief,
But couldnt believe it was just a
dream!

S
cnce childhood, I had an impression that a
teacher was someone who could solve all my
problems, understand me well enough, and help
me out in times of need rather than just teaching the
subject matter. But this belief was shattered by my
experience of a teacher in high school. Supposedly, he
was the best of his kind in the department. But a year
in his class was a disappointment - for both of us.
I vividly remember him asking in the first lesson, Do
you believe in my ability or not? It was a weird
question; of course we did! No one had second opinion
about him, let alone the doubt. If we had, why would
we be attending his lessons in the first place?
Classes started well. Although there were boring
speeches, some of his lectures were so mesmerizing
that everybody maintained a pin-drop silence while he
spoke. He was an extra mile walker with an
unbeatable mastery in vocabulary. He often spoke on
teenage problems and solutions which made me think
that he understood our problems. That was one part I
respected him for in fact the only part.
Although I worked as hard as I could, I was weak in
his subject from the beginning. He appreciated my hard
work but not my essays. I couldnt progress much no
matter how hard I tried. To find the reason for my
failure, I once consulted him,
What should I do, Sir?
You seem to lack the basic skills. Its something that
cant be taught at this level. Perhaps you should learn
it by yourself. Unless you come up with that standard,
my teachings wont be of much help, he replied.
I knew I was a weak student. I still am. But what did
he mean? Was it that a teacher performs chemical
reactions, and unless the reactants dont get to their
activation energies, the reaction isnt possible? Or was
he a teacher only for talented students? If I cant make
use of a teacher when I want to, then whats the use
of me being in his class? Couldnt a talented teacher
like him pay a little more attention to weak students
like me?
I sought help from him a few more times. But the
responses didnt change. Rather, his lessons changed
into a torture. He kept repeating, Dont worry. Keep
working hard. You will succeed one day.
A Teacher i n Wr ong

2130 Bijay
Class: A2
Well sir, do you know the truth? I have been working
hard all the way long. But its impossible without a
teacher doing the same from his side.
When it was time to award the monthly grades, he told
me, + - +-=| +- - =- += - -= That was the
most discouraging remark I had ever received. He
showed his true colours. I then understood why he
always turned his back on me when I begged for help.
He never believed I would sail through and always
had the same cold line for defence - Dont lose your
hope... But after realizing his indifference towards
weak students like me, my level of confidence has sunk
to its lowest, ever. I am hopeless.
While there are teachers who savour the challenge of
changing students life for better, he seems to be running
away. Teachers transform even the weakest of
students. They help solve their problems, not walk off!
Honestly, I respect all those teachers from the bottom
of my heart. Probably, he is a teacher in wrong shoes.
Whatsoever, I still got to keep the hopes.

of this school has always held me
to it like a magnet holds a metal.
The six years I have spent here are
arguably the best years of my life.
It is here that I have learned that
friends matter the most in ones life.
I can never forget those delightful
moments with my friends. Every
day in this school has in a way been
special to me. Every chicken-
day(the day when chicken is served
in the supper), cultural programs,
movie shows, visits, swimming
competitions, Monday assemblies,
track and field meets can never be
erased from my mind. I can never
forget the chicken days when
Praptee and I used to be the last
one to finish eating in the entire
dining hall. The whole 4000 D
batch students going to watch the
Coca-Cola Football Match was truly
an unique experience. How can I
forget friends fighting with each
other and trying not to resist and
making up to each other. Watching
the city from the terrace, getting

Memories play a big role in our lives.
Its funny how the memories of
laughing together can make tears
roll down our cheek.
Budhanilkantha School is not only
an institution where we, the students
get excellent education, but this is
also the place where we learn the
true meaning of friendship, trust,
integrity and humanity. I still
remember my first day in the school.
I arrived here with a hope of
becoming what the world calls
successful and I have not
regretted a single moment spent
here. Sometimes, I have wanted to
leave the school and return to my
home, but the homely environment
scolded by teachers and eventually
realizing our mistakes, gossiping late
into the nights, keeping an alarm of
12:00 a.m. just to be the first one to
wish the girls and special friends
Happy Birthday. These are really
the best experiences one can ever
have in his/her life.
The swimming fests when all the
friends cheered and winning never
mattered, the night time after supper
when we kept on laughing at silly
jokes without caring about the rest
of the world; these were the days
when I learned the true meaning of
friendship.
Now, I am quite a different person
than I used to be before. I have
become the person who I always
wanted to be. Budhanilkantha
School has given me the true
platform to develop my talent. I
dont know whether my friends and
I will be together after this year or
not. I wish all of us will be here
together to spend another two vital
years of our life in this school
which really is 'the Center of
Excellence.'
These are not only the
memories I have had in this
school. Its just that my eyes
are already full of tears
recalling those times. Thank
you Budhanilkantha School,
thank you for these
memories.

All the birds, all the animals and all
the creatures,
Are enjoying their life in the nature
The mountains, the rivers and the
streams
In the nature they are fulfilling their
dreams
Beautiful mountains with sparkling
snow
With some height falling in a row
The sun in the morn came rising up
When it goes it became night
Conserving nature it will be better
Beautiful nature makes the country

I knew that she didnt love me- at
least that I was what I thought.
Ever since I have grown up to
understand things, she has always
opposed me with a churlish
behavior. Sending me to a boarding
school when I didnt want to, or
taking me out of it after I habituated,
got her what she wanted, my
sadness.
Although I might have seemed
optimistic about everything, no one
could understand what was going
on in my heart; it was broken
because of my own mother. And
when she didnt let me accept my
scholarship to the Philippines, I did
the best thing I thought of I ran
away.
I now regret why such a thought
came to my mind that day. In agony
and pride, I left my mom alone and
came here. I did not call her even
once, we completely lost contact.
Sometimes I really missed her, but
after I left home, I never had the
courage to call her.
And now after five months, I have
received a letter from my mother
that she had sent through a friend
of mine. The letter was dated three
months, one week and three days
ago. With great excitement, I
opened the letter:
Princess,
Ever since you were born you have
been a treasure to me, not only
because you are my first child but
also because your father and I had
always dreamed of raising a baby
girl. We had planned how you would
be brought up, what you would study
and everything we could about you,
but sadly your father couldnt even
witness your birth; he died before
you were even born.
I want to clarify several of my
actions which I know have hurt you
a lot. Whenever I took a decision
for you, I had a reason. A reason
that was important for me, for you.
Sending you to a boarding school
was not at all easy for me because
I knew we couldnt live without
each other, but it was really
important for you. You had to learn
to make friends, be independent,
get to know the world beyond me
and know different things necessary
in life. Again, I had a reason in taking
you out of the school because you
needed a proper guidance at such a
vulnerable age; someone to look
after so that you wouldnt be
dragged on to a wrong path by your
friends. I wanted to be your closest
friendI also had a reason for you
to study medicine. I know it seemed
selfish of me, but it was your
fathers dream to see you become
a doctor, and wouldnt I want you
to do that for your father? I was
shattered when you left for the
Philippines becausebecause I
wanted to spend the last few months
of my life with my only daughter.
Yes, Princess, I was dying...I had
lukemia and it was in the last stage;
I wanted you to be with me. I didnt
want to die without seeing you. I
wanted you to be by my side but
alas! you went away.
My dear daughter, you were the
reason for me to live. After your
fathers death, I would have died
but I lived to see our dream. You
are my life and will always be in
my heart. Thank you for bearing
with my rudeness, but now you are
free, free to take decisions on your
own, free to do anything you like.
You will not have to make any more
sacrifices for me. I am not going to
interfere in any work you do. Since
I have been a burden to you all this
time, I am now leaving to make you
free, and as you wanted, you will
now be able to fly high in the sky
like a bird that has no
bounds.GOOD LUCK and
TAKE CARE.
Your loving mom.

Beautiful birds flying in the sky
Flapping their wings up in the air
Flying in a flock up so high
The sound of the birds, do you hear?
When I see them in the sky
I feel like flying with them
I wish I had wings to fly
Dont you feel the same?
Oh! These birds are so free
They fly when they want
They make their nest on the tree
Whenever they like, they come to the land
Never kill or hurt the birds
They are also living beings
If we save these beautiful birds
It will be a great thing.

Something was not right. I could not concentrate
on the jokes of the Kathmandu Post daily. I
ran through lines but nothing got into my thickened
skull. I was irritatedwith everything around me.
The playful smile of flowers outside the window could
not cheer me. My neighbour's kind smile also appeared
queer. The blissful songs of Sufi and the blues could
not soothe me any more. My mind escaped my body
and it went around the corner, across the street to a
cramped up, dimly lit, dirty pub where I used to smoke.
This absolute abandonment of smoking had really
got onto me. This feeling was uncontrollable. It was
like an itch in the back, where you cannot reach. In
the end, my strong determination was toppled and I
stormed out of my room, and headed towards the
dimly lit, dirty pub. The shopkeeper, my close friend
Ramesh, was saying something but I did not care. I
opened the drawers, pulled out my favorite Shikar,
lit it and inhaled the smoke, deep into my lungs. I
sighed to the feeling. I exhaled the beautiful white
smoke and watched it dance and curl upwards in a
spiral. With the cigarette in my mouth I turned
around and moved towards the darkest corner of
the pub. I savored my cigarette . It was the first
one I had had after three days of utter desperation,
and soon asked for the next. With an almost finished
cigarette in my fingers I went to the counter to pay
my bill. But just then I saw my father pass across
the street outside the door. I tried to hide but sadly,
it was too late. I saw his eyes scan my body and
noticed how it stopped momentarily at the fingers
where I held the cigarette.
There was no way out now. My father had caught me
smoking red-handed, or rather, cigarette-handed. How
would I now face him? How would I tell him that I
again broke my promise? How would he react, as it
was not even a week after he caught me drunk? With
a confused head, an anxious mind, and a hopeless heart,
I returned home. And some time later my father arrived
as well. I tried to avoid him but he came close to me
and asked, Where were you? I replied that I was
studying in my room. He then said, Thank god, I just
saw someone like you smoking, in that dirty place in
the corner of a pub. I believe my son never does anything
like that.
I thanked god but was hit by realization of how badly I
was letting my father down and how ruthlessly I handled
his faith. My determination to quit smoking resurrected
only to be toppled tomorrow.

I am feeling so stuffed here, I cried. The humidity was
out of control. Outside, my mother was letting out all the
moans and groans. Aw! It hurts, she cried. Gosh! I
am suffocating, I just wonder when I will get out, I said
to myself. Do you really want to get out, kid? came a
voice out of nowhere. Whoa! Who was that? Dont
be astonished kiddo, I am your god father. Youll come to
know about me late in your life. I am here just to have a
little talk with you, the voice said. Okay!" I said. There
is no harm in letting him go on, I was already bored anyway.
But whoever he was, he seemed a bit weird. He went on,
Child the life you are about to live is full of challenges,
struggles, adventures and happy moments. At first, it may
seem to be all about how much effort you put in to
overcome your challenges and the way you accept the
facts, and whether you choose to become a dignified
person or just to be left as dust. But there is more to it; life
is more than all these, my child, which you have to unravel
yourself. Dont ever give up, no matter what various
mishaps and chaos have been destroying the earth.
Rather, you have to try to stop them and not only make
the world a better place, but also a place worth living in.
And, always remember, what you do does not matter, but
how you do it matters; thats why the bee is praised and
the mosquito is swatted. I bet these words are getting
heavy for you, but you will get used to them. Now do you
want to get out? I nodded. Best of luck, then! said the
voice and vanished.
Wait! Was I ready? I thought . My thoughts were
interrupted by a howl. AwwI am dying cried my
mother. Hurry! Call the ambulance!" My father cried.
Ambulance? H-H-OSPITAL? So quick! Oh no! Was I
going to come out of my mothers womb? I am comfortable
here!

All of us are proud to call
ourselves civilized people.
But do we care about the environment
of the earth? Our planet earth is getting
hurt day by day. The rubbish we throw
is killing our earth. In this 21
st
century
the earth is suffering problems like
climate change, global warming, acid
rain, etc. No one seems to care about
it. Everyone is busy in making the earth
dirty. The other living creatures are
also getting disturbed and are dying
due to our activities. We want to live
a happy life, don't we? But can we
survive well when we are killing other
creatures' lives? We call ourselves
civilized but do our activities state so?
Does this rubbish and smoke make
us happy? We should stop this. We

should plant trees and make our

with me to save our earth?

At times I want to touch the sky,
As my hope rises up high and high
But then I crash down back to the
ground,
And feel like a fish about to drown.
But why do I have to worry though?
For, I have you, when I am low
And yes sometimes, I get really
mad,
And make others day the worst they
had.
But in the end its me whos hurt
As I hide my tears and tuck my
shirt.
But why do I have to worry though?
For I have you, when I am low
Wiping my tears and making me
smile
And shouting for throwing my
clothes in a pile.
Youre there for me wherever I go
Even in happiness, and even when
I am low
And yes I do not have to worry at
all,
For I have you my dear mum,
wherever I fall.

Darkness! It fills the world,
Hatred-the only thing I find around
Still with some hope, I stand to move
I will bring back peace thats what Ill
prove.
So Im walking forward to give it a try!
The path towards the bright side is blood-
filled red,
Every step I take, I see men lay dead.
Still Im walking to bring back peace,
And I will fling away all tears and grief,
So Im moving forward to give it a try!
The light seems fading as the candle gets
small,
Anywhere I go I trip on guns and fall.
Still I hold up to walk to my dreams.
To bring back peace and to let down
screams
So Im still trying to walk to give it a try!
Screams are increasing so is hatred
People are shouting for help from their
blood soaked bed,
Still with a sign of hope I walk for peace,
I walk forward to the light of my dreams
Although, now Im on my knees to give
it a try!

You help them,
You smile at them.
They make you merry,
As for you they are fairy.
Then one day comes,
When the bee hums.
They bring you fame,
Then start to call you by your
nickname.
Suddenly a crack appears between
you and them,
And you dont reply to what they
say.
You start to quarrel with them,
Thinking its just a game.
Then your friendship is over,
Nobody is there to hover.
You start to feel sad,
And you think they are bad.

I am the only person who loves the
dog in my home. When I was a baby,
like my brother I loved and made
the dog my best friend. It was brown
in color and was named Brownie. I
think that the dog is the only animal
that loves man and is his best friend.
Our forefathers also had dogs to
play with. Dogs are not only a mans
best friend but are also like a guard,
and think like him, and care for him.
Why doesn't my family ever realize
this?

As a parent, how would you want
your child to be? Responsible,
authentic and extraordinary? My
situation is different. Most of the
already a parent reader out there,
for sure would demand a lot out of
their kid. But I am quite sure-
equally few are lucky enough to fall
in the category whose wish actually
got fulfilled. If Aamir Khan was
correct, which I believe he certainly
was, then every child is special as
his mega production Taare Zameen
Par projected onscreen. But
theres a situation out here. Unless
the speciality is nurtured properly -
no specialness is going to turn into
speciality! Also, should be a no-
brainer though; it is the parents
responsibility of watering their kids
life, since the very beginning.
Most of the kids today are smart
and knowledgeable. They are up-
to-date and well-informed of the
current situation. They have taken
much bigger steps than kids used
to a decade before. In a single day
many children are born and every
one of them has something
different. They have something
unusual in them, which they will
nourish as they grow old. As we see
how Ishaan Nanda Kishwor
Awasthi is portrayed in the
blockbuster Taare Zameen Par,
as a good painter and a poor student,
every single one of us is uniquely
gifted. It just takes a longer time for
some of us to hunt out the aptitude.
A Thing That Came To Me
I want to share some of my
experiences to illustrate the idea
more clearly. I left my home to live
in a hostel when I was in grade
seven. Today I see myself as what
I had never anticipated to be. Had
I not stayed in a hostel, I wouldnt
have learnt to do so many things
that I now do. I hear that famous
quote time and again Sharing is
caring but I have felt sharing is far
more than that. It is about partaking
and participating. It is like someone
granting a permission to be a part
of his/her skills. As a result we end
up learning new things. A person
who doesnt know how to learn, will
never possess any talents. I have
learnt to share what I have, and at
the same time, learn from others.
Talents are precocious in some of
us but sharing helps to expand it
further. You end up teaching others
what you know.
Education is one of the preliminary
parts of our life. Education works
as a cornerstone behind every
success stories. No pain, No gain
best describes the scenario. But it
doesnt simply mean that education
is everything. Michael Jackson,
popularly recognized as the king of
pop, had never been to school.
However with his skills in singing
and dancing he became famous. If
you see the lyrics handwritten by
himself, it is illegible. He could not
even write neatly. Even a child from
kindergarden would have bested him
in handwriting competition.
However it was not his handwriting
but his performance on stage that
left everyone spellbound. So, it
doesnt mean that success solely
depends on education. The
adroitness inside you can make you
something that you had never even
dreamed.
Talking about talents and skills
needs a heck lot of time. We can
have never-ending discussions on
the topic. But I opine that talents
prevail in all of us but we should be
able to exploit it in the best way
possible. So people, its never too
late to hunt for your talent. Start
today!

Cicadas and crickets chirped
through the pitter and patter of
rain. Fireflies pulsed their tiny
lights braving the wet assault of
the drizzle. Stars were veiled by
rumbling clouds. Trees rustled,
and their dripping leaves were
occasionally displayed with brief
flashes of lightning. I was at the
porch gazing at the night
savoring the tranquility of the
natural world. I felt peaceful.
Suddenly, I spotted a shaggy
dripping figure. It was my
neighbors dog Tommy. It was in
ill health after contracting scabies.
The heartless owners had
abandoned it to the mercy of cold
streets. But, it constantly returned
back to its old home. Its devotion to
the stone-hearted masters was
evident as I often saw it at the door-
steps of the house gazing through
the barring grills with longing eyes.
Tonight, its need for a cozy place to
stay seemed to be magnified. The
rain hammered relentlessly against
its frazzled skin. It once used to be
covered with beautiful golden hairs
that its owners once brushed and
admired.
Perhaps, seeing me on the porch,
the dog approached with slow steps
that signified fatigue and ill health.
I often used to pat him and treat him
with titbits when my neighbors left
him outside the house to guard
against thieves and hooligans. It
seemed he remembered me.
"Tommy," I said with pitying voice
and brushed his wet hackles. He
gazed at me with melting eyes that
expressed his innocence.
"Who is it?" My grandfather called
from inside the room. "Now dont
say it is that ugly dog. If its owner
does not care for it, we have no
need to. Chase it away".
"It is all right grandfather," I said,
hoping he wouldnt come out and
chase Tommy with his walking
stick. "I was just talking to myself,"
I explained.
Meanwhile the torrent of monsoon
water increased extinguishing the
lights of fireflies. It also seemed to
be unfeeling of the poor dogs
despair. How could I turn the poor
soul away? I fished out some
leftover cookies from my pocket
and gave it to Tommy. He nibbled it
and I swear there was so much
gratitude in his eyes. It equaled a
million thanks for me.
"Now grandson, Come in and do
your homework. I dont want you
gaping at rain all night."
I really needed to go inside. But how
could I abandon the poor thing? The
rain was worsening. But I had no
choice. Plucking up whatever
strength I had in me, I managed to
whisper, Go! Go Tommy!
The poor thing turned around and
walked away without a single look
back, leaving me alone at the porch
with tears trickling down my cheek.
My grandfathers call from inside
was getting more urgent. Rubbing
away the tears, I went inside the
embracing warmth of my house
while Tommy walked away into the
hostile cold.
The next day, as soon as I
woke up, I looked outside my
window. The overnight rain
had cleared the weather. The
trees were lush green and the
rose petals in the garden
carried silvery dews. Then my
heart stopped. The dead body
of Tommy lay sprawled in
front of my neighbors house.
I felt my pulse increase.
Tommy was dead.
I felt guilty at not braving my
grandfathers words and providing
him refuge for the night. How could
I have been so heartless? That put
me in no different position than
Tommys previous owners. All his
life, Tommy had been innocent and
faithful but he faced nothing but
rejection. I felt my proud self
crumbling with guilt. I was
prompted to think- A dog is mans
best friend but are we theirs? As I
watched Tommy dead and
unmoving he looked peaceful and
finally at rest.

I watched from the attic. How long
had I been up there? I didnt know.
But it was that I was hiding and
watching. My heart thumped
against my fragile chest, threatening
to shatter its way out. Large drops
of salty sweat trickled down my
forehead. The attic was dark enough
to hide myself from my own eyes. I
was safe. But I doubted it. Now,
dont get me wrong. You can call
me a mad man. I wouldnt consider
that a misnomer. I was mad. And
my madness reflected upon what I
had just done.
I watched him die. I watched his
face looking at me, his hands
outstretched and clutching onto the
hem of my robe and tears dripping
from his lucid ocean eyes. I let him
fall. And I didnt bother to hold him.
I just watched his limp body freeze.
There was nothing wrong in
between us. He was the most

charming person I had ever met.
His crooked nose and large glasses
that magnified his eyes made him
look like an old owl. Wise, he was
and there was no doubt. The eyes
never bothered me. But they were
his hands that did. His wrinkled
hands had the longest fingers I had
ever come across. They were like
pale spiders with five legs attached
to his hands. They could get through
almost everything. Had your keys
entered a tiny crack on the floor, he
would have them out in a

firecracker flash. But long things
always scared me. And his fingers
were a nightmare, to me at least.
I was at his house that night. We
were neighbors and he always liked
my company. He often asked me
for dinners and I seldom denied.
Trust me, he made the best chicken
roast in the country. He had, as
always, prepared the roast that
night. After dinner, we sat in his
study. He poured down the French
wine into two glasses and handed
me one. How about I play
something for you, tonight? he
asked. I agreed. His long fingers
rested on the black and white keys
of the grand mahogany piano for a
moment and started to dance. I
watched those long, seemingly
bone-less, pale fingers dance atop
the keys. I could feel something
rise up inside me, a bad feeling. It
raced all the way up my stomach
into my mind and without a second
thought, I jabbed a knife straigth
through his bony back.
Soon the black and white keys of
the grand mahogany piano wore
violet shade of dark red. Those
long, seemingly bone-less, pale
fingers wriggled atop the dark red
keys before falling on the floor. He
watched me. He had an uncanny
look on his face. I couldnt
differentiate if it was anger or fear.
His lucid ocean eyes were wide.
His eyebrows were bent at odd
angles. His wrinkled face
furthermore was horrid. He lurched
furthermore. I staggered behind.
He opened his toothless mouth and
let out a yell! I made the second
stike, but this time with fear. He fell
down, clutching his throat. Dark
red blood gushed out. I threw the
knife and watched him, rooted to
the spot. I couldnt run and I
couldnt look away either. He
clutched onto my robe. But I didnt
remorse.
I was scared. All my life, I had lived
a strong atheist life. But weird
feelings were forcing their way into
my head. I was whispering the
name of God whom I never trusted.
The picture of him inside a large
pool of blood came before my eyes
and I could not get rid of it. He
would come for revenge! Was I
thinking that? I could not get it out
of my head. A strange sound filled
my ears. It was the tapping of the
floors by long, seemingly bone-less,
pale fingers. Fingers! They were
dripped in ruby and they were
dancing their way towards me. I
realized the attic wasnt dark
enough. I could not get away. I
watched in horror the fingers dance
towards me. The tapping
metamorphosed into the same
music he played to me the last night.
Sweat dripped down my forehead
like a flood. I could feel tears fall
down my eyes. I trembled. Oh God,
help me!
Suddenly, I felt something stop. It
was the fast paced thumping of my
heart against my fragile chest. The
attic may not have been dark enough
to obscure those pale dancers, but
it was dark enough to hide myself
from my own eyes.

Newars are the most mean of all,
one girl said. This is what I heard
from one of the three college girls
in micro bus. They were talking
about their class teacher. They
were loud and the micro bus was
small. They had the option to remain
silent but when they didnt, my ears
had no choice but to listen to them.
The first girl was trying to say that
one of her tutors was very rude.
Third girl approved of her and
added that Newar boys were very
proud and dominating . As it was a
public vehicle I was feeling
uncomfortable and also worried if
there were any Newar passengers
among us. One of the two girls said
to the third one "but you are
different from other Newar K I
was kind of shocked! How could
they...? So the third girl was
Newar. I could not help but glance
at her, she was just smiling. I was
not sure how she felt but what I felt
was that whatever caste the other
two girls belonged to, they lacked
courtesy.
Rai, Magars have no brain,one
Chhetri lady had said it straight to
my mom once, and I was there too.
I told her, We cant predict ones
brain by caste. But my mom was
hurt.
One friend of mine left school
because she was the only Aryan in
her class and her classmates made
her feel that way. There was a
Nepali poem describing the bravery
of the Gurkhas. Our teacher
described how the troops fought
with their might and kept dignity of
Nepali Aarya flagI was happy
until one question popped up in my
mind. I asked Sir, I am an Aarya
too, am I not? His answer hurt me
even more. So the poem was about
Aryans only!
Am I not human? a foreigner
cried with disgust and
embarrassment when he was
denied entry to the Budhanilkantha
temple. Probably this happens in
every other temple where there is
7110 Archana

a sign board ONLY HINDUS.
This notice makes me feel
ashamed.
Only few years back I was also
fussy about these things. I was a
Mongolian and I used to tease many
Brahmin and Chhetri friends calling
them 'Pundit'. I changed benches in
school because I thought I couldn't
be friends with a Poudel. What was
I doing there? Now, the same thing
is happening to me. I am teased by
my Aryan friends as I am the only
Mongolian in the class. Now I am
having to regret what I did then.
So, the next time you see any Indian
stumble down, lend him a hand. On
your way to a temple if you come
across a Muslim friend, invite him
to the temple. Lets be the ones to
shart the change. Lets play the
'WIN WIN GAME' and make John

I had heard about
Hinduism and Buddhism
But today I am hearing about
terrorism
Who is a terrorist?
Why have they put our lives at risk
Why are people's faces full of fear?
Why are people's eyes full of tear?
Has the peace gone away?
Has the love and trust run away?
Why? Why is there terrorism?

PCBS, that is Pestalozzi Center Budhanilkantha
School is a social service organization helping poor
children to get education and survival skills. PCBS is a
branch of worldwide Pestalozzi organization which runs
its programs and activities all over the world.
About forty students in BNKS are being granted the
Pestalozzi scholarship. These students, with the help
of the coordinator Mr. D.K. Shrestha, conduct and
carry out various programs inside and outside the school
premises. This year, the paddy festival was one of the
major programs organized by the PCBS. It was held
on the 15
th
of Aashad 2068, the National Paddy Festival
day.
On that day all the students who were interested in
planting paddy and playing with mud were invited to
the Pestalozzi centre. The program was conducted by
all the 40 students with the guidance of Mr. D.K.
Shrestha. The senior teachers of the school including
the Principal, the Vice-Principals, the CAO, and the
Heads of Houses showed a keen interest in the
programme. The programme started with a speech
from the coordinator and the Principal. Many students
were present in the programme. They enjoyed throwing
mud at each other along with planting paddy.
The other major programme of the center was Tomato
Cultivation. A special species of tomato, 'Srijana' was
cultivated at the PCBS Complex using a scientific
method that incorporated the application of organic
manure. This type of tomato is very high in quality and
has high economic value. It also has high storage
capacity. The students visited the site regularly and
took good care of the tomatoes they had cultivated.

Besides these, PCBS also conducted other programs
like cleaning the PCBS premises, watering the flower
pots at the PCBS and planting trees. These programs
have already helped the students gain vocational
knowledge and skills.
Thus, this year has proved really successful for the
PCBS.

Education is very important for
us. It is almost impossible to
do anything without a sound
education background. Good
education helps us to get attractive
jobs. So, we should study well from
the beginning. If we have a good
education background we won't
face any problems getting a good
job later in life.

We have many teachers to give us
good education. Teachers want
their students to progress in their
lives. The person who doesnt want
to get good education tells
Education is not a big thing. But
that is wrong. There are many
people who want to get good
education but they are deprived of
it and end up working as labourers.
So, I request all those who have
access to good education to study
properly.

Mathematics is a subject
Which is very creative,
It creates lots of magic
Where we have to use a lot of logic.
Math draws us towards our aim and junctions
Where we have to solve lots of relation and
functions,
Mind starts to reel when we start to do
trigonometry
But to do algebra is easier than to do geometry.
Applying the mind
We draw straight line and circle
Maths is an interesting subject
Where we have to face lots of trouble.
We should practice more in order to do better.

Forest is dark and full of trees
And leaves dance gently in the
breeze.
There live animals in the
forest
Wolf, fox, tiger, lion and bear.
They are ever quick and never
at rest
We never know when they
come near.
They come as a blow at night
To frighten the passersby
near
Better not to go there at night
For youll return with heart
full of fear.

Can you handle this alone? asked
the fire tree. Yes, are you kidding
me? Its just as simple as handling
any other bad guy, I replied.
TWO YEARS AGO...
My name is Sirant. I was a normal
boy until my 12
th
birthday. My
friends gave me a treat in a big
restaurant to mark my twelveth
year, and after enjoying the treat to
the fullest, we left for home. It was
already dark outside except for a
faint moonlight.
On the way, I fell down in an open
sewer. It smelt very bad and I
cursed the people who left it open.
I thought, Oh man! Now how will
I get out of this place?
I looked for a ladder, but I was out
of luck. I started to panic. But, just
as I was about to give up, I saw a
bright light at the end of the sewer.
Out of curiosity, I walked towards
the light. To my horror, I found a
tree with trunk lit with fire. It also
had eyes and a mouth.
You are a good boy. I was waiting
for you for many years, Sirant. You
are the chosen one, it said.
I was shocked. I spoke, I dont
understand what you mena by the
chosen one? Who are you and how
do you know my name?
I know everything. Your destiny
was always to save nature. I am
the fire tree, also known as
Elementum. You must save nature
and mankind. I will give you power
of wind, water, earth and nature.
You must fight for everybodys
freedom.
The tree disappeared. I tested if the
tree had really given me the powers
it had vowed. I tried to float in the
air. It worked! I was floating in the
air! I used my newly acquired
power to get out of the sewer. I flew
home and quietly sneaked into my
room. I started designing a new
costume for myself.
Many heroes have stupid names,
I thought and titled myself as Nature
Nafe. With a new name, costume
and special powers, I started
fighting for other's freedom.
One day, the fire tree called me and
showed me a picture of a man made
up of rock. He told me that that
creature needed to be destroyed
because it was trying to destroy the
human race and replace them with
rocky creatures like him. The tree
asked if I could kill the sinister
creature. I told the tree that I could.
Beware! This man is not ordinary.
He has the power of rocks, said
the fire tree.
I replied, With the power of nature
and self confidence, I can defeat
anybody.
There was a fear deep inside me
but I tried best to get over it. Yet, I
wasn' t sure of myself. "Can I
defeat this evil person and save
mankind? Will I win?" Many
questions were reeling in my head

Grey are the leaves that spurt
down in the hearth
Swivelling and dwindling in the
bonfire outside the lawn
The wind pierced through my
chest and hit my heart sharp
Shrilling the nerves like the pinch
of a high harp.
Cold is the tip of my nose, numb
my fingers
Gradually are they relieved by the
rays like soothing tinglers
In the dusk, I wake up into a
misty morning
Dubious of the sun to show its
vibrant colour.
This agonizing winter ponders
wonder and thoughts in me
Of the same chill omnipotent in
sun and cloud alike
Oh! It followed me even indoors
during the tranquil night
Far and wide would Ive
wandered only had this chill died
Or maybe its meant to be so
Myself a semi-conductor or a bee
to live
To live a life of cold and misery
for a purpose to achieve.

called me at midnight, and in
addition, when I was on a week long
holiday. But I had to go. I slipped
into my trousers and wrapped
myself up with a jacket. Then, I
headed towards his camp.
I was a thief by profession. I was
compelled to take this way of life
as I was not good and experienced
at any other work. I did only minor
theft for my boss at first but now I
am quite trained and experienced at
attempting major thefts. It took me
about half an hour on foot to reach
there as I couldnt get any vehicle
at this cold, chilly and frosty night.
Life seemed quite easy for me for
I wasnt caught by anyone (or any
cops).
I headed in his underground camp
and then to the main entrance.
There I was welcomed by four men
carrying huge guns. Then, I directly
went to my bosss cabin as hed
called me urgently. He asked me to
sit on a sofa. The cabin was quite
warm as the heater was switched
on.
Then Boss headed towards the
topic. I looked at my watch. It was
quarter to one. My boss told me to
do his work after sunrise. At first, I
thought it could be a theft but when
he assigned the work, I was
completely surprised. I was terrified
and my mind went blank. My boss
told me to commit a murder.
What are you saying? I have never
attempted a murder, how can I do
what you ask?" My boss took it
quite lightly and said, I know its
your first time but you have to do it
to be in my gang and to be a real
worker. He handed me a loaded
gun and a knife. Then he ordered
me to set off for the task. I went
out of his cabin. Jack (my bosss
assistant) told me, Be cool man.
You can do it. Make sure it is done.
I went out of the camp.
I glanced at the information of the
person. He was Mr. John Clark. He
was a rich businessman and lived
in Hellington Street which was
about 15-20 minutes walk away. I
started. The street was silent except
for the sound of my shoes. I reached
there and identified the house. It
was a big and surrounded by huge
walls. I managed to climb to the
other side. But I couldnt figure out
how to reach Mr. Johns bedroom.
I went around the house and found
a pipe attached, which led to the top
of the house. I took that way and
soon was at the top of the house.
From there I jumped on the balcony
of the second storey. The house
was two-storied. Luckily a window
was open. I entered through it and
was in the kitchen room. Then I
came to the hall. There were only
two people in the house-Mr. John
and his maid-servant. Then I
checked all the rooms. At last, I
found his bedroom. I slowly walked
towards his bed keeping in mind not
to produce any sound. But
unfortunately, when I reached near
his bed I happened to slip and
knocked off a flower-vase which
fell down with a crash. This woke
Mr. John up, who set off a siren to
call the cops. First his maid
approached. I gunned her down. But
I knew that the cops were on the
way. Without panicking, I said
sorry and stabbed the target with
a knife and killed him. The next task
was to find a way out of the building
before the cops arrived.
I ran to the terrace again and saw
the cops arriving. Without any delay,
I used the back way. I jumped off
the terrace to the balcony and then
to the ground. I ran opposite to the
garden. There was no door but a
huge tree. I climbed it and then
jumped on to the wall, and finally
on the street. Then, I ran as fast as
I could. But soon the cops were
after me. I decided to hide
somewhere. Then, I saw a tunnel.
I didnt know where it would lead.
But I jumped in.The cops followed
me into the tunnel.
I found an empty drum to hide
myself in. The cops tried hard to find
me. Assuming they lost me, they
returned to their car. After they left,
I came out of the tunnel enjoying
the proud steps of freedom. I called
my boss, and informed him that the
job was done. I became a criminal
but it didnt matter much

My vision grows dimmer. I
barely see the bright lights
hovering above me. I hear sounds,
but then again I do not. It feels like
someone is turning the radio on and
off. And somewhere from a
distance, I can smell the strong odor
of blood.
Blood! That was how I had seen
my son for the first time. At that
time, Ritu and I were in her parents'
home. Ritu had already seen
through eight months of her
pregnancy. The doctor had advised
her not to move about very much,
but she was confident of that trip.
We were sitting on the porch on a
warm day in Jestha. Ritu had been
complaining that she was feeling a
bit dizzy from our journey. I went
inside the house to get her a glass
of water. I came out and saw Ritu
lying on the floor, crying. I knew that
the day had come. I panicked
because I knew that there were no
hospitals, no doctors let alone
nurses, in this remote village.
My hands trembled as I carried my
son for the first time. I could feel
my blood flowing through his veins.
At that moment, I felt that
everything in the world was in my
favour.
However, I could feel silence all
around me. I looked around.
Everyone, including my in-laws,
were silent. They were facing
downwards, afraid to meet my gaze.
And then I realised everything- I
knew why they were silent, why my
mother-in-law had not come smiling
out of the room and why I had the
sinking feeling in my stomach when
I looked at her. But what I didnt
know was why God had done this
injustice to me.
I dropped my son at that instant. I
ran out of the house, till I reached
the edge of the cliff and then I
jumped off it.
I now feel my body go numb.
Doctors in white surgery aprons
hover around me. But I know that
their attempt is futile.
My father-in-law looked at me and
commanded me to help carry Ritu
inside the house. Both of us
together with my mother-in-law we
carried her to the bedroom and
helped her onto a bed. Then my
father-in-law ushered me out of the
room.
Dont panic, he said, Ive been
in these situations before. Follow
me.
For the next ten minutes I followed
him while he called the women of
the neighborhood. When the last of
the women had entered the room,
he closed the door and said, All we
can do now is wait.
We didnt have to wait for long
though. Almost immediately my
mother-in-law came out of the room
with my son, who was covered in
blood, in her arms. I rushed towards
her, but she signalled me to wait
while she washed him.

The sky looked at her, at the
green that she dressed herself in, at
the vast expanse of blue that flowed
and gurgled on her. He admired the
dewdrops resting on those leaves,
sparkling like priceless gems in the
rays of the morning sun. He stared
in awe at the breathing beauty
below. He loved the earth with
everything he had.
The earth looked up to the
fathomless expanse of the sky that
now hosted millions of twinkling
stars. And she saw that every little
star reflected some part of her. She
saw herself mirrored in the
roundness of the moon. She saw
herself in every part of him. And she
knew he had done all this for her,
only for her. She loved him, as much
as he loved her.
Will you be mine, till the end of
eternity sets us apart? asked the
sky. Yes, answered the earth. Yes,
I am yours, and always will be.
The sky looked at the earth, and felt
that something was wrong with her.
She was no longer as radiant as before.
Those trees withered under the harsh
light of the sun, the deep, rich blue
that ran through her had now become
a murky muddy black. She had lost her
beauty, that very beauty which had
attracted him to her, that beauty into
which he could stare and stare and it
would never be enough. And he
became angry.
Big black clouds covered the sky and
frightened the earth. He is angry,
thought Earth as she looked up to see
fat drops of rain; rain that was no
longer pure, splattering down on her.
He is angry because I have become
ugly. I no longer interest him as I used
to.
You are an ignorant, self-satisfied,
proud creature. You boasted about
your beauty, your children, your
radiance, and thats where you got
everything wrong. You spoilt your
children and gave them everything
that they needed, and as a result both
you and I have to suffer now. I dont
love you anymore! thundered the sky.
The earth could not muster courage
to tell him that the children he had
referred to were his children too.
Now the earth suffers, and so does her
children. She is tired, hurt, battered
and bruised everywhere. She has lost
her love, her dignity, her pride. She
still waits for her love, the sun to come
back to her, but days melt into nights
and so death nears her. The sky is
always dark and black, and night does
not end for her.

Everything you see when you look around is not meant for you. You
should know that you are confined in these walls and there are
restrictions. But its always fun to do things against the law. As a
teenager, its always fun to break the rules and experiment new things.
There are things known, and there are things unknown, and between
them are the doors of perception.
In one way or other, every experience is just another brick in the wall.
Lifes worth trying everything, be it good or bad. It is up to you to
decide and choose good things over bad. As you grow up, you may
not get the chance to do the things you find interesting today. Now is
the time when you can do things that imprints distinctly in your memory.
But at the same time, you have to be aware of consequences. Every
year is getting shorter and you never seem to find the time. Plans that
come and pass remain just as half a page of scribbled lines. Its better
if you make a bucket list and complete all thats left to achieve.
A teenagers life is hard. Either you make it or break it. There are
different things and different people who distract you from following
the right path, always. But you have to remember that the most
important thing is good grades to help you get into good colleges. Perhaps
this is high time that you were careful. You have to judge on decisions,
and sometimes even disagree with peers who might force you into
doing disapproved things. Teenage is that time of life when you have
the maximum fun. But remembering that there is a limit to everything,
you should realize that too much fun can be fatal enough to lead towards
serious trouble.
Your life is your art. You are the architect of your own life. So give it
your best design and decorate it every way possible. Complete the
wall and make it strong, because all in all youre just another brick in
the wall.

To take the first step
To learn the first word
To unlatch a cage
And free a love bird
To scrape an elbow
To stumble and fall
To dream in deep slumber
To see a waterfall
To hide behind a tree
To watch a shooting star
To feed a hungry kitten
To lick clean a jelly jar
To discover the hidden ego
To muse a broken heart
To try and climb with balance
First time on a cart
To fall in love
In hope of nothing to gain
Theres always a first time
And then there's another again.

Beyond the tall bamboos, and the bright green bunch of
grasses
Behind the moss-covered wet slippery road,
Across the silver stream where the merry doves play
around,
There lies my home, my birthplace, my pride.
Where the noiseless noise creeps around the woods,
Where the tireless souls fighting for freedom, simply walk
around,
Where the open secret of happiness is found,
There lies my home, my birthplace, my pride.
The place where only peace and harmony is there,
Where even tigers and deer drink water from the same
pond,
The place which leads us to the heaven of freedom,
There lies my home, my birthplace, my pride.
The place where the people dont have even a single sign,
Of selfishness, sadness, pain and sorrow,
The place where the people dont have a dirty mind,
There lies my home, my birthplace, my pride.
A place full of wisdom, love and care,
A place full of glorious beauty,
A lovely shiny piece of gold surrounded by cute-looking
tulips,
And thats my home, my birthplace, my pride.
The place where I spent my childhood days,
Without any pain and sorrow but with happiness all around,
And yet, the glorious lively memories have not jumped out
of my mind,
Of my home, my birthplace, my pride.

A girl who was having a break,
Decided to go on a trek.
She chose a place to go,
The things were packed, so.
It was a very nice scene,
As she was in the middle of green.
She had one apple or so,
To cigarette she said No
She started at the rise of sun,
And she went on and on,
When she reached the place,
Where of animal there was no
trace.
She ate the apples there,
And some food from a shop near.
She thought of another break,
So she could go to the next trek.

Once upon a time, there lived lady Peace,
The beauty of silence, no one could miss.
Everything perfect, fit and fine,
While the creatures silently shine.
But one day villan war arrived,
All the smile on the face died.
Rivers of blood, hills of dead,
And slowly the happiness got fade.
Lady peace fought with villan war.
All of them fighting wide and far.
She fought and fought, till the day arrived,
When the villan won and the hero died.
Fight and protest for own sake,
Love, care and affection; all fake.
Alas! Peace where have you been?
Everyone is being greedy and mean.
When world grew old,
It realized Peace cant be bought or sold.
Lady peace in heaven crying all the night,
Watching everyone quarrel and fight.
Soul of peace couldnt rest in almightys lap,
God was busy taking a nap.
When will peace be born again?
And erase all the tears and pain.

Now, he was plotting the most
horrendous of ends to the so called
great country, the USA. He was
studying Nuclear physics for just one
reason and this reason was
powerful enough to drive him to
extremes. He topped the University
of Harvard and was the leading
nuclear physicist of the USA after
only two years in Harvard.
August 16, 1953
Hey, Jason, want to go out and
have dinner? David asked.
No, was the straight answer.
B-But, why? Since you got that
PhD in Nuclear Physics, all you do
is sketch the most mind blurring
diagrams on that notebook of yours.
Why not do something else,
something that is more interesting
than this? asked David.
Didnt I tell you that Im not
interested? Now would you please
excuse me and leave? Jason
replied.
David and Jason had been friends
for more than two years. Though
Jason was nowhere near friendly,
David had tagged along with him
and now he was Jasons only
friend.
The next day was the day when all
of Jasons hard work would
materialize. All he had studied and
worked for was this reason. A plan
to destroy the country with the most
powerful of bombs, a bomb that
would not only take away peoples
lives but also cripple the country,
allowing his own country, Japan, to
flourish without the suppression of
the Americans.
According to his plans the nuclear
bomb would go off in the capital,
Washington D.C., destroying the
army headquarters and killing their
chief, the President.
The bomb was placed. It had only
taken a few, cleverly devised plans
to send the bomb in through the
sewer system of the capital.
The only thing left to be done was
to press the button of the detonator.
As he neared his bomb trigger point
that was the museum of the capital
itself, he shouted. Today, you
Americans shall feel the pain that I
had felt; today you shall all perish
in the pain of the memories of your
loved ones, the same that I had
perished when you took my loved
ones away from me. Then just as
he was about to press the button, a
bullet tore his hand apart.
Not so fast my friend, said a
voice.
David, YOU? Jason cried.
Yes, and No. If you mean friend
David then it is not I, but if it is an
American David, then yes. Did you
think that I could not understand
your plan? Every American has the
responsibility to protect his own
country and I am doing so now.
Saying this he tightened his grip on
the gun.
The pain mixed with anguish was
just too much.
Noooo screamed Jason. But
his voice drowned in the sudden
roar of the gun. The blood curdling
scream that continued after the roar
was really chilling. Once more the
spirit of revenge had been calmed
and once more the calm atmosphere
continued. America was saved,
without anyone even knowing of
any danger. So peace prevailed
once more. Though revenge is the
purest emotion, it is never the
solution

It was a cold wintry month of
December 1950. The atmosphere
in the USA was calm; the army was
doing its duty of keeping peace. The
festive mood was just beginning,
the people were happy. The
mistakes were forgiven, broken
hearts got mended, families
returned, new leaves of hopes
sprouted for those who had been
ruined. Christmas was always the
festival of new hope and
forgiveness.
Bur there was one whose heart
seemed untouched by the festival,
whose very soul was filled with
rage, anarchism, ire and most of all
the purest of emotions, revenge.
Jason Wong, a student who had
thought that America was the
greatest country all his life, whose
very dream was to educate himself
in the USA, who had left his own
motherland, Japan, to study in the
USA, and had his world shattered,
his dreams crushed beyond repair,
whose very reason for existence
had diminished-extinguished, to be
precise. Until that day when the
USA dropped two nuclear bombs
in Japan, Jason had never thought
of anything against the USA but
since then he lost everything: his
parents, friends and all.

I flipped through my old and rusted
memories. Memories that never let
me rest and yet made me realize the
truth about love and sacrifice. I
slowly walked to the porch and sat
on an old, creaky chair that had been
there for years. The sky was getting
darker and it was about five in the
evening when the rain started to
pour. I returned to the memories of
that special summer, that changed
my life, and snatched all the love
away from me.
It was in this very summer that I
had shifted to a house similar to the
one that I used to stay in. I was
about 25 and considered myself one
of the best captains in the entire
nation of England. I was here only
for about a month or so. I was
enthralled by the beauty of this
place. Holiday hours passed like
minutes, time passed so quickly.
On the seventh day, at about five in
the evening it started to rain. I
looked up and saw a beautiful
rainbow stretched across the sky.
Suddenly, I heard quick footsteps. I
could hear someone running towards
my house. In a few seconds a
beautiful girl appeared in front of
me. Neither of us spoke for a few
seconds. Then she finally broke the
silence.
My car broke down. Can I stay
here overnight, if you dont mind?
I stood staring at her green and
bright eyes which looked so pretty
against her beautiful body and wet
hair.
Hello! she again broke the silence.
Oh! Sure, its all right. I have a
room at the corner of my house, I
said.
I am Brad, Brad Kessler, I
introduced myself.
I am Lucy, she said offering a
handshake.
I shook her hand and felt it was the
best moment of my life.
She took a shower and changed her
clothes while I prepared supper. We
chatted for a long time when the
microwave beeped and I served
food for her. We finished eating and
went to the porch to talk for a while.
She asked me, What do you do?
Do you live here always or only
during holidays?
I told her everything about how I
got into the army, lost both my mom
and dad and the rest of my family.
It was late when we both headed
towards our bedrooms. The next
morning I fixed her car: only the tires
were to be changed, so I did it
quickly. She woke up and came for
breakfast. Are you staying for a
day more? I asked. I have to
leave, was what I had expected
her to say, but to my surprise I
would be happy to was her reply.
Each day, our bond grew stronger
and within a few days it changed
into love. My first love and the last
one I would have, which wouldnt
last long. In the same summer, we
were in a relationship and were so
much attached to each other that
our love transcended all the
limitations.
About 28 days into my holidays, I
was called by my Colonel
Commandant. A war was about to
break out so I had to leave her the
same night. I took her car and left
without even asking her to go with
me. She was ready to stay there as
I had promised I would be returning
back soon. It was 1939, the year
World War II broke out. I was one
of the commanders of one of the
places. I had to leave my love for
my country. I had plans, plans to go
by after the war ended. And after
6 years of battle I returned to the
same summer house and searched
for Lucy. She was nowhere to be
found. Then I asked my old uncle
who lived nearby. And what he said
changed my whole life.
She was taken by the Germans and
killed because she was one of the
Jews. She had called you and asked
you to save her but you ignored it.
Suddenly, remembered that I had
actually got a call one night from
Lucy and the word she mumbled
Save me! I am being killed. I was
busy fighting for my country then. I
did not pay much attention to the
call since I never thought that I
would have to leave her forever.
I thought then that my country was
more important and that she would
not die as there were locals to save
her, but that didnt happen.
That summer and the sacrifice I
made always haunt me today. The
love we had that summer that will
always remain in my soul. I am
proud to say that I am a British
Soldier but I always consider myself

Wonder the land I went,
Numbed feet; staring the motion
pass by
Succumbed by panic, desperate by
voice
Bridge Id made from my heart
closet.
Lost in thoughts, I sailed beyond
But always perplexed-could only
find myself in bars and lounge
Countless suffering became fanatic
to topsy turvy me
Until the thin diameter of wrist came
to be seen.

Timid was I, got senses to gratify
Confined to this material world, got
reasons to lie
Alone in the dark ugly night would
the repent spring
But the following day, noticed the
same suffering.
But then, whenever bright days
ignored me,
And myriads pain dissolved me
And I was thrown a way half past
My present
Came you
And then came hope with torrent
Feathered my abyss moral
For you my guru only proved me
coral.
Defined me who was lost
Renovated me who was worst
More who was worldly and sank in
the stinging fluid
Was the only one now making the
mark no one could.

I have a proof that animals dont
have brains. I mean they
dont have common
sense. We all feel pity on
animals, mainly domestic
animals. They are tied
up but we arent. We
have freedom but they
dont. Animals are like
us except for some
cases. Animals dont
have common sense. I
have an example: in the
Himalayas cowboys
take their yaks for
grazing. They set them
free. The yaks dont like
humans taking their milk. They want
freedom. But they do something

really silly. When the cowboys set
the yaks free for grazing, the yaks
dont run away. In the evening they
come back home. I have another
example. In Dashain I had gone to
my maternal Uncles home. He
rears hens. My uncle had made a
warm place near the cellar for the
hens to lay their eggs. Every day
the hen used to lay eggs. Each time
it laid an egg, my uncle used to take
the egg. The hen knows that her egg
will be lost. But, the same hen
comes the other day and lays her
egg there. These examples prove
that animals dont have brains. I
mean to say they dont have
common sense.

Nature has a beauty of its own
To all people its importance is known
Nature is the most precious thing in

Which is given to us by god.
Nature is a gift to human beings
Where there are lots of beautiful

Nature is like a clock of time

The court had been adjourned for
lunch. The defense had laid its case
and the prosecutors ending speech
would certainly end by mid-
afternoon. The verdict would be
announced after the deliberation
tomorrow. The Press had been
following this case like hounds on
the trail of blood. The case of The
state of New York vs. Helena M.
Jones had been publicized as if the
god had come down on the earth.
Mrs. Jones was charged with
conspiracy of murder of her late
husband Mr. Dalton Jones and
District Attorney Rick
executioner names and
announced that they could not settle
for anything under the electric chair.
The senior court clerks typewriter
had printed the following series of
conversation.
The defense attorney, Melinda
Briddle-tier, examining the accused
Helena M. Jones:
Melinda Briddle-tier, Mrs. Jones,
you have pleaded not guilty on the
grounds of humanity.
Yes
Then, you admit that you fired upon
your husband.
Yes, but only because he told me
to. He was in a poor state of health
and survived on medicines!
Thank you, Mrs. Jones. I would,
with your permission, your honor,
cite that deceased Mr. Dalton Jones
had applied for a mercy killing
"Objection!" Roared the D.A
But your honor, in such a case
Overruled! said the honorable
circuit court Justice Joe Fillipo.
Now, as I was saying to the Jury,
the deceased had applied for mercy
killing and this very court had
decided to go against it. So we can
see that her husband had no longer
the will to live as I would like to
present a report of the City Mayor
Hospital as exhibit A.
Permission granted, authorized
Justice Fillipo.
We can see here that Mr. Jones
had to be given regular doses of
Morphine and that he had to rely
on his wheel chair, Melinda
continued. So we can safely
assume that Mrs. Jones killed her
husband out of love
Objection! shouted D.A Flames
and he was now on his feet.
Sustained, Miss Briddle-tier, I
suggest that you read the lawyers
manual.
Miss Briddle-tier said, I am sorry,
your honor. So I was saying to the
Jury that Mrs. Jones killed her
husband for something that exists
in all of us for some law prevents
me to point out the exact fault here.
The defense rests.
An hour later, the recess completed,
the prosecution put forward its last
speech. Rick Flames, known for
sending over a dozed to the frying
pan, as the electric chair was
known, started his speech, Ladies
and Gentlemen of the Jury, I know
that you are probably bored of this
trial and I would like to cut the
chase. Mrs. Jones killed her
husband, plain and simple. We may
never know what caused it but he
had the right to live and she killed
him. You should vote for guilty.
Miss Briddle tier, do you have
anything to say?asked the Justice
Yes milord." I would like to point
out that the District Attorney said,
We may never know what caused
it which opens a room for me to
go to the subject of mercy killing
and other areas I was denied
before.
Justice Fillipo thought for a second.
Yes, indeed he said that and as the
section 3 of New York State law
present, you may present your
theory.
Melinda began, First of all, I would
like to put forward that Mr. Jones
had applied for mercy killing and he
had been denied because, the New
York State did not have provision
of such a law. Now, I am even
permitted to say that Mrs. Jones did
the deed out of love. Sense the word
love. As the Bible says, See not
thy deed but thou reason. So I would
like to request to the Jury that vote
with your heart.
The district attorneys face had
turned red. He had committed a
rookie mistake and Melinda had
taken full advantage of it, even
buttering the Jury.
The court is recessed for 15
minutes. Then we will have a Jury
deliberation and the Jury Foreman
is Florence Hastings, said Justice
Fillipo.
The Jury deliberated for eight hours.
After what seemed like eternity, the
foreman of the Jury came from the
chambers and recited, We the Jury
have decided that a hung Jury is no
good. Hence, by absolute majority,
we acquit the accused of all the
charges for the reason of love.
As the court cheered, an old man
in the audience sighed, A person
can love another enough to kill
anybody, even the beloved.

Plagiarism is a wide-spread habit in
the youth today. And why wouldnt
it be? Anyone from any corner of
the globe can have another person's
ideas plagiarized, leaving the original
artist spellbound with puzzles he is
offered by the rude awakening he
gets when he comes to know about
the theft of his creativity under
someone elses name. The
plagiarists have their fortune if the
original idealist does not notice the
publication. But plagiarism is
opposed by morality and humanity,
and thus, is recognised as a crime.
Plagiarism is found abundant in

media, though it is immoral. It is
common in publications, musicians
or music directors, movie directors,
cartoonists and many more.
Publication houses have been
accused of resemblance of thoughts
and ideas. Similarly, musicians as
well as lyricists have been blamed
and even sued for aural or lyrical
similarity of the new creation to the
older one. But the copying of ideas
and thoughts is not termed
plagiarism if the remodeler has the
consent of the original creator.
In this era, plagiarism leads to
punishment from the court if the
original brain stormer of the unique
brainwave sues the remaker. In the
United States of America, a
plagiarist is detained in jail by the
law. However, he can be bailed out.
Plagiarism is definitely a crime.
After all, creativity is not for sale.
In fact plagiarists are feckless
people with quite a low level of
eloquence. So, owing to the
opposition of plagiarism to morality
and humanity, it is declared as a
punishable crime all over the world,
as the grandeur of creativity is far
too unreachable by means of trade.

Bang, Bang, Bang! The bullets
were charging like a thunderbolt and
making a fearful sight. I sat beside
the window with my mouth full of
burgers. My mother clutched my
hand and said in a tense voice Eat
fast, Riyan. We need to go. But
mom where are we go-o-o-ing? I
stammered. Now stop talking. Just
hurry up dear, she replied. Then
both of us packed our bags and
rushed out of the house.
The war was going on outside. My
mom said, Put that suitcase on your
head. I did as she told. We crept
quietly, clinging in the wall as a
hideous being. Ahh! my mom
squeaked a cry of pain. She fell on
the footpath. I cried, What
happened mom? She was really in
pain. I saw blood dripping from her
right shoulder. Oh my god! She was
hit by a bullet!
She stood up and said, Lets go my
dear. But mom you are hurt, I
cried. Nothing is going to happen.
Just lets go to a safe place. Both
of us started to walk. My mom was
trotting so I needed to keep up with
her. After walking for a few hours
we reached the edge of a jungle.
We stopped there. My mother tied
a piece of cloth on her wound and
sighed heavily. Both of us were
really hungry, so we had bread and
eggs. Everything around us was so
quiet and still. My mother slept for
a while, but I wondered, Why are
we running away from our home?"
I woke my mother up and told her,
Mom lets go to home. Where are
we going to sleep tonight? My
mom whispered, Don't worry son,
We are going to Pinato. Its a
journey, but we need to go there.
As for tonight, we will have to stay
here itself. I went near her and
slept on her lap.
us to their ship. I spoke to mom,
Whats going on mom? She
replied, Nothing son, we are here
to play hide and seek in the dark.
So, both of us played hide and seek.
After a few hours I said, Mom I
am hungry." She replied, If you ask
for food, then you will be out of this
game of hide and seek. I didnt
want to lose so I stopped talking.
Several days passed with same
conversation between us. But one
day the ship crashed onto an
iceberg. While we were drowning,
I held my mothers hand and said
Mom, lets get out of here. She
stood in utter silence. Mom its too
cold here. She then carried me on
her back heading to the shore but
huge waves shattered all our
efforts. Still we hoped to live. At
last the rescue team came. I shouted
with happiness, Mom, look there,
someone has come to rescue us.
But she did not reply. Her body was
cold. She was no longer breathing.
She sacrificed her life to save me.
I was rescued, but her death pierced
me like a sharp knife.

Suddenly I saw her she turn white

Its a clich but time really flies by.
It really does. I close my eyes and
picture myself as a child, entering
through the gigantic school gate
for the first time. I see the little boy
with shaggy hair, wet eyes and a
puzzled face, his face showing his
confusion about everything. The
school seemed infinitely large and
the roads endlessly long. But the
thing that frightened him the most
was the nine long years that lay
ahead of him. After a silent nostalgic
moment I finally open my eyes and
see the young man ahead of me in
the mirror. His face confident,
veteran and expressive of his
sureness of the future. Much has
been lostinnocence, curiosity and
un-certainty. But then, much has
been gainedexperiences,
knowledge, but above all, the
memories that will be warmly
cherished throughout the years.
It wouldnt be wrong if I tell that
the school has taught me a great
deal. The school has taught me
lessons of life that are most
essential yet ironically undermined.
I have learnt that friends really
brighten up your darkest days and
2065 Ashutosh

that there is no place like home. I
have learnt that the most valuable
lessons do not come from the big,
fat books but from experience. But
above all I have learnt that we need
to live the present at the fullest, for
these are the memories that we will
treasure in the years to come.
The school means a lot to me. After
all, this is the place where I kicked
a football for the first time, played
my first chord on the guitar and
learnt to value true education. As a
child, the school was a mystical
kingdom to me, waiting to be
discovered. As I grew up, the school
transformed into a home and every
aspect about the school seemed
homely. Playing football in the rain,
roaming around the school and late
night gossips always seemed fun no
matter how many times you did it.
As time passed, my activities might
have changed but the school
seemed to be exciting and fun as
ever. There may have been a few
moments of frustration, hunger and
hardship. But at the end, it is totally
worth it.
As I write this article, I peep outside
my window. Its raining and the
school, as always, looks beautiful.
All these years and still the graceful
scene never fails to stun me. I then
silently recall the most treasured
moments of my life. And it takes
me by surprise that all of them are
associated with the school. I fear
the day I will leave the school, for
that day, I will not only be leaving
the school but also a huge part of
me behind. And the saddest part is
that no matter how hard I try to fill
up that empty space, it is going to
be an unsuccessful attempt, for that
part of me is going to rightfully stay
here forever.

When I flip through the pages of any
book I lay my hands on, I find myself
plunged head-first into its world. My
life took a new turn when I began
to read materials outside of the
stodgy, state contents of my school
textbooks probably around 3 years
ago, when I was in grade nine. I
can vividly remember the days
before that, where the very notion
of reading books outside of the
national curriculum never occurred
in my mind. Now, I know why I
never achieved the marks that my
hard-work should have paid me.
At the beginning, it was very
difficult. I started with Agatha
Christie and Dan Brown. But my
reading quickly gained pace, and I
found myself completing three
novels a week. When I was through
a novel, I felt as if I had found a
friend who could guide me through
an alien land. Reading had made a
deep impression on me and I found
myself reading more and more,
never completely satisfied or sated.
I found books to be more interesting,

irresistible- a way I no longer felt
towards movies. I will always thank

When you have developed a taste

a pleasure more long lasting than
anything else.
I extended my reading habits and
soon began to find newspapers,
biographies, magazines and other
non-fiction equally interesting. I
didnt just limit myself to fiction.
Consequently, it helped me a lot to
keep me up-to-date with the world,
enhance my general knowledge and
most importantly, enhance my ability
to write good essays during
examinations. It has also inspired
me to use my leisure time for a good
cause. As the saying goes, an empty

negative thought. It would not be an
exaggeration to say that reading
habit has helped me become a better
person.
I began to develop a taste for the
English language-something I had
feared in the past. Reading habits
helped me to develop confidence in
my subjects. Novels gave me
imagination, whereas newspapers
and magazines boosted my general
knowledge and developed an
eagerness for current affairs.
For me, reading is very important.
Just as Helen Hayes said, From
your parents you learn love and
laughter and how to put one foot in
front of the other, but when books
are opened, you discover you have
wings. I found a new individual in
me from that moment. I learned
one of the most important lessons
of my life: Dont think that you
know everything, but ever be
learning more. If a book comes at
a suitable time then it can change
the whole course of your life.

There was a boy named John. He
was from a rich family. He had a
friend in school who too was from
a rich family, but not richer than
Johns. His name was David. He
was a greedy and selfish boy. But
in front of John, he would act as if
he was very good. John also had
another friend, Tom. Tom was from
a poor family but he was kind and
helpful. David was hated by
everyone except John and Tom.
Though Tom knew that David was
a bad boy he liked him, for Tom liked
everyone. John liked David because
he thought that he was a good boy.
John liked David more than Tom.
John had this misconception that
David was a good boy, many years
even after their school life was over.
And one day John decided to
explore a huge desert with his two
friends, David and Tom. They took
all the required things with them
deep in the desert because they
wouldn't have much water with
them. While exploring the desert, a
violent tornado approached. They
started running, but the tornado
tossed them far in the desert. John
and David were thrown in the same
direction but Tom was thrown in
another direction. They all were
alive but badly injured. John
suffered the most but David had
only minor injuries. John could not
even crawl while David could walk
with a little difficulty. Tom could
crawl properly but could not walk.
David walked for some hours to
find his way out of the desert. He
spotted John on the way. John was
very happy to see David. David

gave John a cruel laugh and went
closer to John. David kicked on
Johns face and took Johns water
bottle and medicines. David left
John in the middle of desert. After
some hours of a long walk, David
sat near a rock for rest. There was
a snake under the rock which came
out and bit Davids leg. David was
shocked and started running. After
some minutes he died. Tom crawled
for many hours and finally he also
found John in his way. Tom went
close to John and put some
medicines in his badly injured parts.
John was so upset that he did not
tell Tom what had happened. After
some hours even John could crawl.
They crawled the whole day and
found Davids dead body. John was
so angry that he hit Davids dead
body with all his strength. He took
out the water bottle and medicine
from Davids bag and came out of
the desert. Tom and John were then
taken to the hospital by some
people. After some weeks when
both of them were healed, John
asked Tom what David had done.
Tom promised John that he would
never hurt him.

People say relationships are made in heaven. It sounds
true but there is one relationship that is chosen by us
and made in our hearts- friendship. This maybe the
reason why friends are so important and special to us.
A person is lucky if he gets at least one true friend in
his life, but in my case I find myself very fortunate to
have true friends, really true ones.
These friends of mine have been with me for a year
now. We've been together in our ups as well as downs.
Weve worked together, argued with each other,
laughed, cried, and shared even the darkest of secrets.
In other words, we have been together in every moment
of our lives. Whenever we faced problems, we inspired
each other to solve them. Every time anyone of us
achieved anything, we felt, WE did it! because every
time we had to do something, we were always together.
When I walk down the memory lane, those funny
incidents turn out to be the most precious moments. I
know that a day will come when we will have to say
Goodbye but deep down my heart, I believe that there
will be no Good bye for ever.
A day will surely come when there maybe distance
amongst us but that distance will not really matter.
Because even though we are miles apart, I know that
deep down in our hearts, true friendship rests and lasts
for eternity

Time flies so quickly that it only seems yesterday when
I first entered the school. Although a bit difficult and
hurtful, the first year here was joyful. On Saturdays, I
would cry all day long missing my home. But gradually
Budhanilkantha School turned out to be more than just
home for me.
I didnt realize how fast the 6 years of my life passed.
It makes me feel happy even today recalling the cultural
programs and dance competitions , cross country races,
house picnics, educational visits and many other
moments.
Things I learnt at school will ever remain entrapped in
my memory. Here I learnt to value hard work, sincerity
and honesty. I learnt to overcome challenges, to struggle
hard for making dreams come true and to explore the
talent within me.
I will never regret a single moment Ive spent here.
No wonder that Budhanilkantha School has been my
teacher and has taught me to walk with my head high.
I know that I will miss the times spent in the waiting
hall, the swimming fest, the dance in the rain and the
times with my friends. So, from the core of my heart I
thank Budhanilkantha School for all it has given to me.
Hats off to my school. My School, My Pride!

T
he mathematics club has
been conducting its activities
with the objective of
enhancing mathematical skill among
school students. The club is run by
the senior most students of
Budhanilkantha School under the
guidance of the club coordinators
Mr. Atiram KC and Mr. Tulshi
Adhikari. This year the club has
successfully conducted two major
programs to achieve the aspired
goals.
MATHEMATICS
TUTORIAL:
With the motive of providing
maximum benefits of club activities
to the students of our school, we
initiated our activities by tutoring the
students of our school who find
mathematics difficult. The first
thing we did was to collect the list
of students from grade 5 to 10 who
were weak in Mathematics through
the concerned math teachers and
the head of department. We fixed
the time and venue for students of
different classes after consultation
with the head of houses. The
tutorials were conducted 3 days per
week by the tutors who were the
club members and volunteers from
2000D batch of students. It was
a great experience for all the
volunteering students for being able
to help their juniors and sharing their
knowledge to overcome the
difficulties faced by the students.
The program proved to be fruitful
for all the students who attended it
as shown by their final results.

I had a mother and my sweet mother
died,
She didnt die of fever but her feet
were tied.
My drunkard and heartless father with
his own hand
Killed my sweet mother and buried her
in the sand.
My mother was very kind and clever,
She had promised to live with me
forever,
She had promised to die together,
But she neither lived nor died with me,
She went alone in the peaceful world,
Where she will get the love,
Which she never got on the earth.
Today, I am alone, a forlorn boy,
My mother who loved me very much,
died.
When I was just six and used to sleep
by her side.
She was killed and I still remember that
horrible night,
When my cruel father like an angry bull,
Came running with a sharp tool,
And cut the tender neck of my mother.

Because his father got hit.

Thats because his sister bumped into it.

Just because, he teased her child.
A swarm of bees charging a bear,
For, he was found destroying the wild.

We must have seen different types of books, short and long, old
and new with dazzling and sparkling covers outside, written in
different languages and by different authors. But despite these
differences, its common that books are the most cost effective
as well as convenient means of entertainment. Books give us fun
and, of course, a better reason for passing our leisure. Books are
quite easy to understand if you read with interest.
Books not only give us information, but also make us disciplined.
They are the source of wisdom and knowledge. Feeling too bored?
Go and get a book and start reading it, lie in the sun and enjoy
reading. Really, books are so useful that their advantages aren't
even hard to list out. Books make us civilized. Further, they allow
us to develop many articles, stories, and so on, on our own.
So, whats more! Pick a book of your choice and start reading
before it is too late.
Read one and youll feel the wonderful ecstasy.

We must be the change we want to see in this
world is the motto borne by the Society for Open
Nepal. It is an independent, voluntary, non-profit
organization managed by the senior most students
(A2/12) of Budhanilkantha School. The clubs chief
aspiration is to minimize the massive digital divide
that is so prominent in the country. In this regard,
the club also organizes programs that intend to
preach about the importance of knowledge to a wide
audience. SFON runs under the joint supervision
of Mr. Atiram KC and Mr. Mohan Karki. In the
year 2011, the club applied its efforts to bring to
revelation the huge importance of media. The club
conducted two programs, both of which aimed to
throw light on the significance media has in every
possible area of human endeavor.
On 20
th
June 2011, the club organized an essay
competition for the students of classes nine and ten
of Budhanilkantha School. The participants were
asked to compile their views on how media has
influenced the demeanour, attitude and lifestyle of
todays youths into an essay titled How does media
influence the ways todays youth behave and
interact? The competition attracted a good number
of enthusiastic participants who tried their level best
to effectively express their opinions regarding the
topic. The five best essays were selected awarded
prizes and certificates, and the winners were given
a chance to attend the Youth Media Interaction
Program that the club organized four days later.
We understood the invaluable eminence of media
as the Fourth organ of the nation. With the motive
of circulating this understanding to a wider audience,
we staged the much awaited Youth Media
Interaction Program on 24
th
June 2011. The
programs chief objective was to clarify to the youth,
the struggles, hardships and efforts to be a media

Club Presidents
personality. The program was an attempt to elucidate the
scope media has in terms of career prospects for the
new generation. It was an effort to instigate youth to
pursue their career in the near future as a media
personality. The program was attended by the students
of Budhanilkantha School and other institutions like
Kathmandu Academy and Xavier Internatonal College.
The program was adorned by the presence of four
prominent media personalities who were:
Mr. Manohari Thapa: Television personality and
newsreader at Nepal television
Ms. Komal Oli: A prominent singer and newsreader at
Nepal television/Radio Nepal
Ms. Malvika Subba: Editor of Navyaata magazine and
television personality
Mrs. Sama Thapa: Newsreader at Kantipur television
The program comprised of speeches by the guests
followed by an interaction session. During the three hour
long program, the guests shared their experience of
working in Nepali media and gave an account of the
controversies associated with the field. From their
experienced words, the youth got to know about how the
stature of Nepali media has flourished and how promising
it has become to pursue a career in Nepali media. During
the interaction session, the students raised their queries
before each of the guests. Through the program, a good
number of youths got answers to their curiosities regarding
media.
One of the much awaited programs of SFON is the
upcoming Mugu project, which is an educational donation
program at Jananetra higher secondary school of Mugu
district. The program will encompass donation of books,
computers and other educational materials. Through this
program, it is believed that many students of this remote
area will be benefitted. At present the club is collecting
necessary educational materials for the program.

Once upon a time in a place called
Leoso, there lived a king who was
very kind. His people were very
happy to have a king like him. His
son was very intelligent. One day
when the son woke up he looked
outside the window and said to
himself This is very beautiful
Where would have this come from?
This question was reeling in his mind.
He went to the garden. Then he sat
down and said, All day I play in this
place but its no use because I dont
know what it is I am playing.
One day the young Prince went to
his father and said, Father, what is
this place? How does it exist? Then
the king replied, Son, this is the
nature which exists naturally. It is
the one which gives us our basic
needs. Nature always treats
everyone equally. It never likes
favouring the white and ignoring the
black; it doesnt discriminate
anyone.

The young prince understood
everything. Then every day, he
started worshipping nature and kept
on finding new things about it. Later
on, he found that nature purifies
everything; It exists on its own. And
we depend on nature for our life.
The young prince shared his ideas
with the villagers. Then everyone
realized the importance of nature and
they started worshipping it.They
called the prince Natman. He was
the man to decipher the secret code
of nature and find out how it was
helping the people and how it made
survival possible. The villagers
would not have known about the
secrets if he hadnt felt those things.
So friends, lets try our best to feel
the nature. People do not
understand it and so are harming it
day by day. Nature is like our mother
who cares for us. But we see that
people are abusing her. They make
her cry by polluting and destroying
the environment. Lets think from
now onwards that if nature is
destroyed, we will also be
destroyed. When nature is finished
nothing will be left; we won' t
survive. There will not be air, no
grass, the sign of freshness which
encourages us to live. So lets love
her and give her a nice gift by doing
acts of conservation with the slogan:
Nature is beautiful

I looked up at the stars. They
resembled white ants in the dark
night sky; the moon looked like an
ancient china plate, old and yellow.
The air was calm and cool and a
silent breeze was moving the long
blades of grass. The grass was soft
and wet, standing on the ends like
guardsmen on duty, but gave way
once I stepped on them. I looked at
the sky, oblivious to the sounds and
lights around me, an utter bliss.
I had completely forgotten that I
wasn't alone. My trance ended, and
I suddenly realized that I was with
another person. I turned my eyes
and I saw her lying there, silent, as
if she too was enjoying the night.
Her face shone with peace and her
eyes were full of wonder. The
breeze had strengthened by now
whispering into my ears. I took her
hand and she looked at me. Her
face contained satisfaction. We
gazed at each other. She took my
other hand and put it on her heart,
trying to communicate using the
rhythm of her beats. I felt the
sudden urge to embrace her and to
hold on to her until the end of time.
But I resisted that urge, and it faded
away. Her hair was ruffled, but I
had never seen her hair look so nice.
I looked into her eyes again.
She stared at me hard, and then laid
her head on my chest and squeezed
my hand. My heart started racing,
but the night was calm, and it
slowed it down a little. She smelled
like chocolate and her fragrance
was faint, almost like the scent of
the morning dew. I couldnt help but
smile. The trees surrounding us
rustled their leaves softly, trying
hard not to disturb the silence.
I felt comfortable somehow, with
her beside me. I wished that the
night would never end. I wished
that the world would leave us
undisturbed forever. I wished that
the stars would shine down in their
present grandeur, and I wished that
crickets would continue their silent
chirping. I wished, again, that the
night would never end.
I dont know if she had read my
mind but the moment I wished the
night to go on forever, she
whispered, I wish the night would
never end. The stars look so bright
tonight.
Yes, my love," I said, They
certainly do.
And I turned my gaze towards the
sky. The stars had never looked so
bright.

Speaking in English helps us a lot. While many schools are already
improving in it, our school too has tried its best to create a better English
speaking environment. However, we are still lagging behind and there is
further room for improvement.
The students in Lower Secondary Level have improved a lot in this field.
Different houses are organizing programs related to the improvement of
English. They are found communicating in English most of the time.
They are very conscious about it.
In the Higher Level, people seem ignorant. They dont care much about
improvement. However, they read library books frequently. Some houses
organize competitions. So, in a way all of them are improving their English.
We all can improve our English by communicating properly. Perhaps it is
the best method. Besides reading and writing articles, competitions like
debates, public speaking, speeches are of great help.
Many teachers have taken this matter positively. We should also co-operate
with them and improve our spoken English.

A student without proper school
regalia and a school without its
identification are both worthless.
Hence we know how consequential
school uniform is for a student. It
has a value that counts in every step
of a student's life.
A school is big kinsfolk containing
children of different kinds. Some are
rich where as others are poor. In
order to promote equality and to
avoid discrimination, school uniform
is a must. For example, if all the
students wear school uniform, they
look identical and work as family
members. School uniform not only
avoids discrimination but also
reflects the identity of a school.
In the context of our country Nepal,
if a person/student wears school
uniform, he/she does not need to
show the Id-card to get fare
concessions in public vehicles.
Out-dress are obviously expensive
than the school uniforms and if
students wear their uniform, it will
save their parents' money. This also
prevents students from being
fashionable, which isn't something
they join school for. If students
wear their school uniform, no one
looks distinct.
School uniform is also a part of
discipline for a student. It reflects
how a person is. The parents and
teachers want their children to be
smart and disciplined and if a student
wears school uniform he/she will
look smart, neat and disciplined.
Also, if a student believes in
simplicity and equality, he will
automatically develop a habit of a
social worker. And who knows he/
she might turn into Nelson Mandela,
Mahatma Gandhi and make his
parents and his nation proud of him!
So, it is a prime responsibility of
every educational institute to
establish a rule where every student
must wear the same uniform and
hence be proud of the school they
go to.
Should School Dress be made
compulsory?

Different people have different aims. A man without an
aim gets lost on his way to a prosperous life. Moreover,
each individual builds up an aim in life. My aim is to be
a teacher.
I am thinking of leading a simple life. I want to be a
teacher because education is important to us. I do not
want to be a slave of money. More than fifty percent of
Nepalese are illiterate. I want to change this all.
People who are not aptly educated are not adequately
conscious. Majority of the uneducated population is in
the remote areas.
I am currently studying in class 6. I will study
mathematics as my major subject. After I complete my
graduation, I will apply to go to remote areas of my
country to be a teacher of mathematics.

What have I done? he cried to
himself. I should never have done
that. He cried and wept and
screamed, but could never undo
what he had done
A few hours earlier, Paul, his older
brother Mike and his mother had
gone for boating near the outskirts
of their hometown Marvel. It was
a big beautiful lake and reflected the
scenery of the magnificent
mountain range, which lay just
beside the lake. The air was cool
and the sky was clear. The
temperature was just right for a
family picnic and that was what
they had come for, a picnic.
The moment the family arrived at
their spot, Paul and Mike, as usual,
began fighting for the fishing rod.
They had bought just one fishing
rod. Paul quickly grabbed the rod
and a basket, and ran towards the
lake. Mike ran after him but was
not fast enough. He sat down on
the green grass, crying and panting.
After a while, he stood up and
resumed walking, cursing Paul all
the way to the lake.
Paul always acted as a boss in
everything. He ranked top in his
class whereas Mike was always at
the bottom. Paul was physically
stronger than Mike even though
Mike was older. Paul was a better
athlete. Even at home, their mother
always praised Paul for his
achievements, giving him more
priority than Mike. Mike always
hated his brother Paul ever since he
came into existence.
All of a sudden, Mike got an idea,
an evil idea. He thought of taking
revenge. It was time to get rid of
him, forever.
As Mike approached his brother, he
requested, May I use the fishing
rod once? You have used it for quite
a while." Obediently, Paul handed
over the fishing rod to Mike. Then
Mike said, Why not take a boat
towards the centre of the lake and
fish over there?
Paul agreed. They searched for a
boat and found an old but usable
boat. So they headed towards
the centre of the lake. Mike
fished for a while and caught
a good number of fish. After
a while Paul asked for the
fishing rod. As Paul stretched
for the rod, Mike pushed him
into the water.
Paul did not know how to
swim and began to drown.
Mikes plan had succeeded.
Paul began shouting and
screaming for help. Mike left
him there and went away from
him towards the shore. Paul
swallowed a lot of water and
couldn't shout anymore, but still
fought for survival.
Their mother heard Paul scream and
began running towards the lake. It
was too late. He was floating, head
facing the bottom of the never
ending expanse, dead. She could not
bear the death of her beloved son
and burst into tears. She started
screaming at the top of her lungs.
But it was all over. She fell down
on her knees. At this point Mike
came running towards his mother
and tried to comfort her. She
suddenly turnes pale and slumped
on the ground. She had suffered a
fatal heart attack.
What have I done? he cried to
himself. He cried and wept and
screamed, but could never undo
what had been done. Taking a
revenge on his brother he had also
lost his mother. He knelt over his
mother' s dead body sorry and
penitent for his misdeeds.

Year 2011 remained a truly service
oriented year for the Social Service
Club of Budhanilkantha School.
Along with the clubs regular
programmes, we carried out several
activities within, around and beyond
the school campus to foster positive
changes in the society in every
possible scale. However, we feel
immense pleasure and satisfaction
putting on our maximum efforts to
live up to decades long legacy of
the club.
In the year 2011, Social
Service Club organized
a week long awareness
campaign within the
school from January 23
to 29, 2011. Students of
Lower Secondary Level
were made to practice
earthquake drill. They
were also shown a
documentary titled
Sold based on human
trafficking. An
interaction session with
students was organized
after the documentary
show so as to give an
extra thrust to the issue.
Another documentary,
titled Shadows of the STREET,
was shown to the whole school a
few days later. The documentary
portrayed the plight of street children
of Kathmandu.
We also contributed our time in
sanitary activities. We, with the
support of many students from the
school, cleaned Budhanilkantha
Temple area on seven consecutive
Saturdays.
The year was wrapped up with visits
to the Pashupati Bridhashram and
Khagendra Nawajeewan Kendra
where we extended our support in
the best way possible. We visited
the Pashupati Bridhashram on May
17, 2011. There we helped nurses
who were working tirelessly to
provide the elderly people what they
required the most food, respect
and above all, the sense of care. We
even spent some time chatting with
elderly people and listening to their
heart breaking stories.

Our visit to Kahagendra Nawajiwan
Kendra was also a notable
experience. We staged a cultural
programme for a group of
differently-abled students who
studied there. We didnt merely
share our time but also emotions and
happiness. Students from
Budhanilkantha School as well as
Khagendra Nawajiwan Kendra put
up various dances, songs and
dramas on the stage. The audience
not only cheered, clapped and
thoroughly enjoyed the show, but
was also gratified by realizing the
fact that they constituted the
respected and learned elderlies in

one of the happiest moments of
each others lives shared, without
having to lose anything.

Last Friday, I watched a movie
titled The Girl Next Door. To be
completely honest, it wasnt the best
of the movies Ive watched.
The first line may mislead you to
think that I am writing a movie
review. No, its certainly not a
movie review. Its just that I came
across a very interesting thing that
hasnt left my mind ever since I
watched it: the protagonists college
yearbook had this column that read
I will always remember, and it
had to be filled in with the most
memorable incident that occurred in
college life. Not that our
Bhanjyang has one, but I couldnt
help stop my cerebrum to reason
what would I write if we ever had
to.
As I pressed the rewind button in
my brain to flash back my best
moments in the school, I blanked.
For a minute I almost thought that
my years in BNKS were boring and
unimpressive. I thought for another
minute, and yet, no answer. Then,
like The Karate Kid rising from a
serious injury to fight back the final
fight, my brain delivered. My mind
flooded with series of incidents, and
for a second I wondered if I would
complete a book thicker than our
Bio book. But then, I dropped this
idea the second I realized it was like
underestimating the volume of Bio
book.

I exactly dont know what always
pops out but I surely know that it
will be a long list. My earliest
memory of a good time at school
seems vague. Was it the Saturdays
all day long boat races in drains or
the Friday night movie shows? Well,
the movie shows made me wait a
tiresome week. Id guess the name
of the next to be shown a week in
advance, as well as in the weekend
that followed. It was super-fun.
Every house picnic got only better
year by year. The evening football
in basketball courts and the rainy
street soccer just the day before our
examinations. These are some of the
things not to be missed. Every
weekend, I attend the clumsy labs
and all it reminds me of is the first
time I went to the Black Gate and
how reluctantly I bought five
Lovebird candies. Despite the fact
that I was in hostel, I never missed
the taste of fresh carrots,
cucumbers and radishes grown
secretively by teachers. They were
always there to fulfill the empty
spaces dining halls menu left. And
those things are going to be in my
'not-so-intelligent' brain for a long
time.
And then there were cultural
programs, ever so exciting. The
memorable medleys and skits
sometimes felt like the best thing in
school. Even the quiet times,
especially those in candle lights and
the gossips, the noises we made and
the scolding we got are merely
floods of memories. Every seven
minutes after supper walks were
the same but what were different
were the never ending topics and
the happiness they brought. I will
always remember.
Were those all the things? I ask
myself rhetorically, knowing that the
answer would never be a yes.
I wont always remember only the
finer incidents but also the less bitter
ones. I know I will never forget
how I was singled while chewing
gum in one of my junior classes and
was sent out of the class. Also the
moment when I was caught
cheating during an examination is a
basic subject of remembrance. My
failing in an important examination,
and the night after that - how I felt
like an ill treated cat - was a crazy
thing, however funny it sounds. But
I will always remember that. Good
or bad, doesnt matter. The only
thing that matters is memory. It is
Ringo Starrs line and I will always
remember how I quoted him in this
last article of mine in Bhanjyang.
If there had been a separate column
as such in Bhanjyang, I am pretty
sure I wouldnt be allowed to write
it, for it would be long enough to be
scrapped off. And if I had to write,
I would write, I will always
remember that I had lots of fun
here. And if they allowed me to
write more, perhaps it would tend
to infinite!

Ironies are all around. Its been nine

years - nine hard years, nine tough
years, nine quickly passing years,
and nine unforgettable years. And
beyond this nine on the number line,
everything suddenly appears
changed. Through this very schools
gate I had entered clutching my
dads hand - with a hard expression
in my eyes saying, Please, take me
home. Please!
He did not.
This, he said instead, is BNKS,
your new school. And he was
gone.
The very main-gate is here once
again, still the way it had been when
I first stepped for my interview.
Only that today I am tall enough to
look over it and let go of my past.
Today I am alone all over again,
with bags stuffed and a fact known
that I will never be returning back
(not as the same student), with a
mystical future ahead and shades
of beautiful memories behind.
But what I had asked my dad nine
years ago is still vivid. He had
pretended not listening to my
bellows. Tears came that night,
because I wasnt taken home. And
today I am fighting to hold back
tears once again. For there texts
and calls on my phone, and all of
them are Son, when are you
coming back? I have no idea, no
answers really. I feel like ignoring
them straight. I feel like texting them
back, I am not your son, my parents
are somewhere in here! I feel like
crying. I feel like running out to the
Bottom pitch, or falling asleep in a
juniors room, or locking myself in
one of their blue lockers, or taking
an underwater dive in the pool, or
hiding on the majestic poplar trees;
so that no one ever finds me and
sends me home. Its ironical, you
see. When my wish is finally being
fulfilled - I wish I hadnt ever
wished that wish. I wish I never had
to leave this place. And as I
approach this very iron-gate, I feel
like the same nine year old once
again. Nothings changed, except
for height and weight. Only that this
guy whos whining like a freshman
is eighteen now, he is a know-
nothing no more and its his last day
at school.
I suddenly make up stories in my
mind, that out of nowhere appears
a Genie to grant me wishes. Not
three but four and not four but
infinite. So now I have wishes to
make - hopes to hold onto. I close
my eyes for a second and rewind
my lifes DVD, trying to come up
with the most exotic moments Ive
ever had, and then I look towards
expressing those in his language. He
rubs his hands and swallows all my
desires.
I wish to have one more chicken
day, I say. With all my mates, not
just eight in a table and four in a
row, but everyone. I swear I
wouldnt even eat anything.
Because all these years, I have
been tired of stealing away their
shares. I want this supper to be
theirs. I am done fighting, fighting
for Nebicos, over lunch and tiffin,
over notes, novels, bhogates, pears,
sugarcanes, and almost everything.
Who on this earth knew nine years
would be this short? That it would
fly away in stealing and quarralling,
leaving us no time to love, not even
to bid each other a proper good
bye.
And so I think of times as silly as
hijacking biscuits, playing counter
strike with friends in LRC, sleeping
whole day, staying up late until
mornings, gossiping, and enjoying
and cursing lessons. I spend my
wishes remembering all those times
and longing to live them again
someday, believing in a fancy that
this imaginary Genie would heal all
my sadness and bestow me an
opportunity to live it all, again.
My last wish is not even a wish. I
just want whatever Ive wished, to
happen over and over again,
everyday. Whenever I wake up in
the morning, I want me to be on that
green bedsheet I despised all my
life. Whenever I touch an exercise
book, I want myself in the seat I
used to occupy in classes.
Whenever I click a mouse, cut into
queues, flip pages, or stand for
photographs on the foyer, or run
laps, take lengths, crack jokes and
eggs, make omelette sandwiches,
give speeches, do homeworks and
greet people - everything that
comes - I just want BNKS all
around me. I want it to be my world
like it had been, forever.
Having said this much, I open my
eyes rubbing all those tears. And
then I look in front. There aint no

Genie! Rubbish. Its just a figment
of my imagination. The only thing
thats ahead is the main-gate,
nothing else. And behind me, is my
whole world. I got to make a move,
but theres only one direction.
Drops of emotion roll down my
cheeks once again. I try to stop but
cant. These are going to last long.
All I can do for now is to pick my
bags up, look forward to creating a
new world of my own, turn around,
and bid a farewell to my home.

Innocence is the deepest beauty
any innocent being can possess. You
dont require assiduous labour to
become innocent; you wouldnt
need to commit crimes either. Guilt
is always guilty; faultyby name
bears faults. But this innocent word
innocence itself is innocent. You
may need to work hard to prove
yourself an innocent; but you will
always know if you truely are one.
Anger multiplied by anger leads to
anger squared. Hatred multiplied by
hatred turns up to be hatred
squared. Joy multiplied with joy
becomes joy squared. However,
innocence multiplied with any other
feeling is still innocence. There lies
the fact about its subtle naturethat
it cannot be changed. And only an
innocent can interpret it. Hence
until today, criminals have ruled free
while the innocents remained
tethered to humiliation. Perhaps this
world itself was created by an
innocent God. Dont you think so?

Its not possible. It cant
be true. There must be some
mistake. Deep down, I trust it
cant be true. God could not be so
cruel! A million thoughts and feelings
rush through me as I stare at that
news piece. Cold blood floods my
vein. I shout. But its not the shout
of an angry war cry. It is the wail
of a defeated man, one whos lost
everything near and dear. I close my
eyes in a hopeless hope that when
they open, the photo in this news
piece will change. I pinch myself.
This shouldnt be a nightmare. I
pray to God. I need him to change
the truth. But I am left only with
those hopes, the hopeless hopes.
The photo is unmistakable. It is her.
Our parents said we were

called her, also conceived at the
same hospital, the bed exactly
opposite to where my mom was
expecting. The moment of a first
born in both the families was
awesome. When she was a day old,
I was too. There were no
differences. Our families had been
connected since we came into this
planet. We exchanged greetings on
each and every occasion. The

lived as if under the same roof. It
was all so natural, all so co-incident,
and all so nice.
But this single news piece
turned everything down. The
accident was a complete mystery.
How could it have happened? What
led her to take her own life? I
wanted to know the reason to her
lifes end. Hadnt she known that I
would have been always there for
her, to help and support her through
all times? I would have always stood
by her side no matter what came.
I remember going to school
together, playing together and
coming back together. We were
inseparable even in the classroom.
We always used to sit together and
used to cry when the teachers
separated us. Even after making
other friends we used to miss our
time together and we used to make
it up by spending our time together
after the classes. In the holidays too
we used to play together. I also
remember eating Sabitri aunts
samosas. She was the best at
making them and we used to gobble
up whatever she gave us, saving
none for later.
I can see my mother from
the corner of my eye, looking at me
crying from the kitchen window. I
think she understands why Im
crying and what has been lost.
Maybe my mother is thinking that
she should have told me about this
incident the day it happened but I
dont think that I would have been
able to hear about her death through
someones mouth. I think that this
is the best way I could have learnt
about it. But, God! why couldnt I
have I learnt about it earlier?
Time flies quickly and when
you are happy it flies quicker. So it
had happened. Growing up in the
same neighbourhood, we grew up
to be very close. She used to tell
me all her secrets and I used to tell
her mine. I was very protective
about her and felt pangs of jealousy
if she gave her time to someone
else. After grade 10 we went off to
different schools and were in
hostels there but whenever we got
the chance we used to call each
other and talk hours about our life,
our hostels, and the teachers. We
talked about how some classes
bored us to death, the mischief we
did at the hostels and complain about
the bad quality of food given to us.
She used to tell me about her dreams
and how she wanted to be free and
not caught up in this old thinking of
the Nepali society. She told me how
she wanted to go to any foreign
country like the States or the UK
where there would be no comments
and no stares over what she wore
or where she worked, where as she
told me every was treated as equal.
My sister comes out from
her room. She sees me and asks me
why I am crying. I dont speak
anything. She comes closer and
sees the news piece. She is also
shocked and tears wells up her
eyes. She tries to explain it to me,
to help me but her words get lost in

After many years, I stepped into
my motherland. I really felt proud
to be a Nepali. I had left this land
eleven years ago in pursuit of a
better life. I went to the USA. I
found many other fellow Nepalese,
who were living there, having many
problems. I, myself, didnt have
many problems but I couldnt feel
at home. So, sometimes I used to
share my feelings with the other
Nepalese there.
Today, after eleven years, as I step
into my motherland, I feel really
happy, proud and free.
While coming home, I bought a
newspaper. The front page
headlines read, Three Prime
Ministers in a Year but No
Constitution. I was shocked. I
thought, "Is it the Nepal that was
once unified by Prithivi Narayan
Shah? Is it the same country for
which our ancestors shed their
blood?" I felt that the current
leaders of my beloved motherland
were selling the country just for the
sake of money.
Isn't it high time that every Nepali
takes this matter seriously and acts
accordingly?

her mouth. She is just as devastated
as I am. She just comes and hugs
me trying to console me. She tells
me something but I dont
understand a single word of it. Not
being able to compose herself too
she runs back into her room and
shuts the door. I am left all alone
still staring at her photo.
Our friendship and what we
had together stopped abruptly. She
had to go to the United States for
some family matter as her father
was there. As she had asked me
while she left I wrote her letters
daily telling about how my life was
going on and how I missed seeing
her, talking to her, but the reply
never came. I was always given a
sad no to the inquiry to the postman
about a letter for me. As her reply
she never came back too. And today
after exactly 3 long years and 3 and
a half months this letter arrives and
as I excitedly open it up a news
piece falls off with her photo.
I am in tears. I feel her
presence for the first time since she
left. Maybe she is trying to tell me
something. Maybe she is leaving
behind a message that she is happy,
no matter wherever she
maybe........!

I was a new member of the school. The first person I
was met was my guide brother. He guided me all the
time. As soon as I entered the school he introduced
himself to me. Then he took me to the Principals
office. After an interview with the Principal, I came
out of the office, to see him waiting for me outside.
Then he took me to an amazing place, where I saw
the longest house that I had ever seen in my life. I was
taken to a big room with a high ceiling. First, I thought
it was a room of a hospital, but later I came to know
that it was the room where I was to live in. I had a
small wooden cot and a personal locker. But I did not
have any clothes to keep, except the dress I was
wearing.
At night my guide brother provided me a vest to wear.
I was given a thin mattress. I was not familiar with any
of my friends. That was why I was not with them. I
stayed alone in a corner of the room.
