2012 Lesson Plan

Proficiency Level/Grade: 10TH Grade High School Students Estimated time of Lesson: 40 Minutes Context: Present Perfect Tense Performance outcomes/objectives: Students will be able to create sentences with using the Present Perfect Tense at the end of the class. Segment Warm-up (setting the stage) Time 2 minutes Teacher Tasks Since this is the first class of the group and the subject is greetings, the teacher starts with introducing himself and telling about the two most important class rules: No Turkish and mobile phones are allowed. Teacher uses himself as a visual and tells his name to his students. Teacher tells the students about the book that they will use throughout the semester and wants them to open page 6. He repeats the number 6 a few times and also writes it on the board. He starts with the starter part on page 6. He makes the students listen to the dialogue from the recording and then wants the students to repeat the dialogue. The teacher does the following two Student Tasks Students listen to the teacher carefully and try to understand what he means with the help of the body language and simplified English that the teacher uses. Rationale Students will know their teacher and also without noticing they will see how one can say his name in English.

exercises on the book with making the students have a role in the dialogues. Teacher first makes the students listen and read the dialogues then gives roles to the students to practice the dialogues with the help of the teacher.

Extension

4 minutes

Teacher chooses some students and wants them to come to the board. He wants them to make mini dialogues with the patterns that they have learnt today.

the dialogues and understand the meanings with the help of the pictures on the book and the intonations of the speakers on the recording. Then they try to do the same dialogues between each other. Students that are chosen come to the board and try to make dialogues without looking at their books. Other students listen to them carefully and try to catch any possible errors. Students ask any questions they have about the things they have learnt today. They also practice what is covered today when they arrive home.

Wind-down

1 minute

Teacher asks the students whether they have any questions or not. If there are no questions, he wants them to practice the parts covered during the lesson when they arrive home.

Students will have the chance to make dialogues between themselves. This will let them create output from the input they got during the class. Students will have the chance to ask any questions they have to the teacher. They will also learn what they need to do in order to keep what they have learnt in their mind.
