Community input next
step in Kohler Schools
principal selection process
Submitted by Kohler Schools
The Kohler Schools Elemen-
tary and Middle School Principal
position opening has garnered sig-
nificant interest. More than 130 ap-
plications were received from
qualified individuals in Wisconsin
and across the country. The district
is fortunate to have a strong pool
of candidates to consider. The ap-
plications were reviewed by the
administration and the Board and
on April 27, 2012, eight candidates
were identified for interviews.
The preferred candidates will
come to Kohler Schools in the
coming weeks to be interviewed
by a panel which includes two
Board members, the superinten-
dent, and teacher representatives.
The candidates will also take a tour
of the school with retiring Princi-
pal Sue Jaberg. The interview team
will then narrow the list of candi-
dates to three finalists.
Each finalist candidate will
come back to Kohler Schools on a
separate date in late May to partic-
ipate in a teacher and parent/com-
munity engagement session. The
engagement sessions will take
place on May 21, 22, and 23. The
teacher engagement sessions will
take place from 3:30-4:30 P.M. and
the community engagement ses-
sions will take place from 5:00-
6:00 P.M.
During the engagement ses-
sions, teachers, parents, and com-
munity members will have an
opportunity to listen to the candi-
dates respond to a set of prepared
questions and to ask some addi-
tional questions as well. Teachers,
parents, and community members
will be provided with a rubric in
order to provide feedback on each
candidate. The rubric focuses on
the following attributes: the candi-
dates ability to establish a shared
vision and mission; the ability to
set directions to achieve that mis-
sion; the ability to build relation-
ships and develop people; the
ability to develop and lead the in-
structional program; the ability to
develop the organization; and the
ability to implement accountabil-
ity. There is also an open-ended
form to provide additional feed-
back.
Along with the teacher and par-
ent/community input sessions, the
superintendent and a Board mem-
ber will visit each finalist in his or
her current school district. The in-
terviews, the input from teachers,
parents, and community members,
and the site visits will allow the
Board and the superintendent to
make a mutual decision about the
best candidate to join the Kohler
Schools team. The final decision
will be made and approved by the
Board at the June 11, 2012 regular
meeting.
Please join Kohler Schools on
May 21, 22, and 23 from 5:00-6:00
to meet the finalist principal can-
didates and to provide input on the
selection of our new elementary
and middle school principal.

with her first season ending with a

cently named 2011 Division 2 Girls

The
Villager
The past sev-
eral weeks
have created
much turmoil
for WI, both
at the state
and local lev-
els. As Gov-
ernor Scott
Walkers budget bill winds itself
through the courts and the legisla-
tive process, concerns still remain
at the local level. In the end,
though, it should be realized that
communities will have to respond
to the budget as approved by the
House, the Senate and the Gover-
nor. In any case, it can be safely
said that all of us are ready to bring
the divisive issues to rest and move
onas the rights and dignities of
all are respected.
With the inevitability that com-
munities will be receiving less
State aid for their schools, less
shared revenue for community
services, and a freeze on tax levy
increases, your local governments
and school boards will experience
severe limitations on their upcom-
ing budgets. It is almost certain
that communities will have to
tighten their belts as the 2012
budgets are put in place.
Through all of this, however,
the education of our young people
cannot be abrogated and the youth
of today cannot be viewed as ex-
pendable commodities. The viable
future of any nation rests in its
young people. Mr. Marty Lex-
mond, District Superintendent,
definitely walks a tight rope in
working with the School Board,
the district staff, the students, and
the community while attempting to
maintain the strength of the Kohler
School Districts overall programs.
All of us have our personal beliefs
and agendas as to how it should be
done. In the end, though, we
should be unified on one front: the
future of our nation rests with the
youth of today. My personal best
wishes are extended to Mr. Marty
Lexmond, School Board President
Dr. Jane Bishop, and the other four
School Board members, and the
school staff as they pull together to
offer the best possible educational
programs for the youth of our com-
munity.
The Kohler Civic Club was or-
ganized one year ago and meets at
noon on the first and third Thurs-
day of each month. Meetings rotate
between Blackwolf Run Restau-
rant and Pine Hills Country Club.
In early May, the Village of Kohler
2011-12 Directory will be deliv-
ered to your homes and/or places
of business. The Club members are
working feverishly on the plans for
a Village of Kohler Cemetery Vet-
erans Memorial. A view of the
proposed plans will be forthcom-
ing soon; it is anticipated that an
architectural design will be dis-
played at the Kohler Cemetery for
the 2011 annual Memorial Day Pa-
rade. Plans include the unveiling
of the Veterans Memorial at the
2012 Memorial Day Parade, which
would be a highlight for the Vil-
lage of Kohler Centennial. If you
are interested in becoming a mem-
ber of this illustrious club, please
contact President Richard Balge
(920-694-1918).
The Village Centennial Com-
mittee continues to meet regularly.
We are pleased to welcome Cindy
Howley, Kohler Co. Representa-
tive, to the committee. Cindy is an
important addition, since her input
will bring to the table the history of
the Village of Kohler from the per-
spective of the Kohler Co. Other
Committee members are the Vil-
lage Board President, Amy Biznek,
Tom Leonhardt, Sheryl Lindstrom,
and Peter Fetterer.
The April 11th Board Meeting
will conclude my eight years as a
Village Board member including
my last eight months as interim
Board President. A personal void
is still felt with the untimely death
of Steve Reinbacher. Sincere con-
dolences continue to be with Ann
Reinbacher and her family.
During these eight years, I have
had the privilege of serving on the
Board in several different capaci-
ties. My primary role for several
years was Chairperson of the Prop-
erty Committee. In looking back,
several projects were completed
during that time. Among those
were the new roof on Kohler Me-
morial Hall Building, construction
of the Village Childrens Swim-
ming Pool, and the Lost Woods
Park Pavilion. Included are the up-
keep and replacement of several
streets including School Street,
renovation of Kohler Memorial
Hall/Theatre/Gym, extension of
sewer/water line on Woodland
Road, and the list goes on. Sincere
thanks are extended to Bruce Neer-
hof, DPW Superintendent, with
whom I worked closely for ad-
dressing the property agendas for
the Village; Laurie Lindow, Village
Clerk/Treasurer; and Cindi Gamb,
Deputy Clerk/Treasurer. Also, it
was an honor to serve with past
Presidents Oscar Ward and
Thomas Leonhardt.
My best of wishes are extended
to your anticipated new Board
President, Thomas Schnettler, and
the successful three of the four
candidates for trustee positions:
Thomas Gast, William Kunst,
Brian Post, and Dietmar Wohlge-
muth.
Again, thanks to all who have
made my position on the board
possible and to those with whom I
have worked. It has been an honor
in having served on the Kohler Vil-
lage Board!!!
Best of wishes

The chess club at Kohler
School had a tremendous season
competing in local scholastic chess
tournaments with a couple of team
members winning first place in
their age divisions. Mike Sebald,
an additional coach who was
brought in this year, is credited
with helping the team improve.
According to the Executive Di-
rector of the Wisconsin Scholastic
Chess Federation, Bob Patterson-
Sumwalt, scholastic chess in She-
boygan County is growing faster
than any other county in the state
with several schools adding chess
teams this season.
The K-3 team took first place at
the February 11 Fifth Annual
Kohler Invitational, and the March
17 Mosaic School tournament. K-
3 team members include:Alex
Holland, Brady Bates, Alex Unger,
David Unger, Grant Unger, Owen
Multer, Pranav Karra, Sophia
Zhang, Hugh Carey, George Bar-
rock, Elle Borowski, and Samuel
de Silva. Alex Holland took first
place overall as an individual, and
Brady Bates took second.
The following teams were first
place winners at the Sheboygan

Pranav Karra. Third grade
team: Alex Unger, Alex

Juniors, Nick Scheppmann and
Logan Willis, led the Blue
Bombers boys golfers to their low-
est team score of the season with a
team score of 157 against Elkhart
Lake on May 3, 2012. This was
good for a 4 stroke victory over a
very strong Elkhart Lake perform-
ance. Scheppmann shot a career
low round of 1-under par 35 to
earn medalist honors on the 3282
yard Meadow Valleys Layout,
while Willis shot an even-par 36
(her 3rd round of par or better this
season). Also contributing for
Kohler were sophomore Derek Eg-
bert 40 and senior Alex Vander-
Schaaf 46. Ollie Sadiq paced the
Resorters with a 2-over par 38.
Scorecard:
KOHLER (157): Logan Willis 36, Nick Schep-
pmann 35, Derek Egbert 40, Alex Vander-
Schaaf 46. Elkhart Lake (161): Ollie Sadiq
38, Kyle Rentmeester 41, Tom Pritzl 39, Tyler
Kaboord 43.
Willis round of 74 at the May 2
SVA Golf Invitational at the very
difficult Bristlecone Pines Country
Club in Hartland is believed to be
a women's competitive course
record at Bristlecone Pines, course
according to Head Golf Profes-
sional, Paul LoCicero. The 22 team
Invitational annually features the
strongest field in all of high school
golf in the state. All ten of the top
10 ranked D1 schools participated,
as well as the top 3 ranked D2
schools. Kohler was the lone D3
school competing. Willis score
was good enough for 5th place out
of the 110 golfers. The field in-
cluded several boy who have ac-
cepted NCAA D1 scholarships
from top-25 rated schools. Several
Division 1 coaches attended the
event, including the UW-Madison
Women's Coaches.
Scorecard:
Nick Scheppmann 84, Derek Egbert 91, Alex
VanderSchaaf 92, Jess Dyksterhouse 110.
Kohler's team score of 341 was good enough
for 14th place out of the 22 teams. Top
ranked D1 team, Arrowhead, won the team
championship with a score of 305, while
Homestead's Jordan Niebrugge (recruit of
national powerhouse Oklahoma State) won
the individual title with a round of 70.
Logan Willis earned medalist
