Installation --------------NOTE: Knights of Honor(TM) will only install and run on machines installed with Windows 98SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000 or Windows XP. 1. Start your machine and wait for the Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP operating system

to load. 2. Place the Knights of Honor(TM) CD in the CD drive. 3. Windows will automatically detect the CD and begin the installation. Follow t he on-screen instructions to install Knights of Honor(TM). If you need to instal l DirectX9.0c, you can do this as part of the installation. 4. The installation program adds a program group called Knights of Honor(TM) to your Start/Programs menu, and a shortcut to your desktop. Click on this shortcut or alternatively click on the start button on your Windows task bar. Under Prog rams/Black Sea Studios/Knights of Honor(TM) select Knights of Honor(TM) to play. Note: If the Auto insert notification feature has been disabled or the CD is not recognised, run Setup.exe from the root directory of the CD to begin the instal lation program. ---------3. DirectX ---------For your convenience, we have included DirectX 9.0c on the Knights of Honor(TM) CD. DirectX is a utility made by Microsoft that allows your software, hardware, and computer to speak a common language. DirectX is an update to your Operating Sys tem that allows the most efficient graphics and sounds to be utilized. Like mos t software, programs for Windows DirectX must be installed to your computer. a) Installing DirectX 9.0c directly from CD (if you skipped it during game insta ll) Knights of Honor(TM) comes with DirectX9.0c and will prompt you to install it du ring installation. If you would like to install it manually, make sure the Knigh ts of Honor(TM) CD is in the CD-ROM drive and browse to the following folder. "\Directx" and click on DXSETUP.EXE b) DirectX 9.0c and supported hardware If you experience issues installing DirectX to your computer, try the following: The two most common causes for the installation hanging when DirectX tries to in itialize itself is lack of hard disk space and problems with your video and soun d card drivers. While DirectX itself doesn't take up that much hard disk space, you must compensate for the fact that Windows is using some hard disk space for virtual memory (a swap file). Get information from Microsoft on DirectX. http://www.microsoft.com/directx -----------4. Uninstall -----------To uninstall Knights of Honor(TM) go to Programs/Black Sea Studios/Knights of Ho nor(TM) in the Start menu. Click on Uninstall Knights of Honor(TM) to proceed. A lternatively, click on the Start menu, select Settings and then Control Panel. N ow find Add/Remove Programs and click to run. Scroll down the list until you see Knights of Honor(TM), select it and click on Add/Remove to uninstall.

Troubleshooting Video / 3D cards -----------------------------Computer hardware manufacturers are constantly updating their driver software so that their hardware can play the latest software programs with the best possibl e performance. If your system is not using the latest driver please consider obt aining an updated driver. Doing this may also give you benefits such as increase d performance, the elimination of a technical problem and new component features . Default Graphics settings -------------------------The first time Knights of Honor(TM) is started, a system check is performed and default levels are set for the options on the initial setup menu. These default levels are set to provide the best game play experience possible depending on th e hardware detected in your system. ----------7. Peripherals ----------Knights of Honor(TM) supports only Microsoft Windows compatible keyboards and mi ce. -------------8. Trouble Shooting -------------- We strongly advise that you have the latest motherboard chipset software drive rs installed, these are periodically updated drivers that provide enhanced chips et support under Microsoft Windows operating systems. Having these drivers insta lled can improve performance, fix issues, and minimize any incompatibilities tha t you may experience. - Background tasks such as Anti-Virus and Crash Guard programs can use up valuab le system resources, we recommend closing these before running Knights of Honor( TM). NB: Do not click on End Process for any of the processes listed below. Run ScanDisk (Win98/ME)/Error-Checking (Win 2000/XP) to detect and repair disk errors and bad sectors on your hard drive . Run Disk Defragmenter to ensure that the data on your hard drive is organised properly. . Run Disk Cleanup to clear unnecessary files from your system. Consult the Windows Help Guides for information on running the above tools. Wind ows Help can be accessed by clicking on the Start button and selecting Help (or Help and Suppport for Windows XP) . Ensure that your video card has the latest drivers by visiting your card manaf acturers website. If there is no improvement then download the latest driver fro m the chipset manafacturers website. . If you are experiencing choppy or stuttering sound then download and install t he latest driver for your soundcard from the soundcard manafacturers website. . Experiment with your ingame Preferences options. . Reconfigure your initial settings by selecting Start/Program files/Black Sea S tudios/Knights of Honor(TM)/Configure Knights of Honor(TM) - Task switching is not fully supported while running Knights of Honor(TM). If y ou use the Alt-Tab, CTRL+ALT+DEL or other Windows functions, then you may experi ence issues. ----9.
