Statement of the problem

Many companies are adopting ERP systems worldwide. As ERP systems are based on best practices, it is expected that adoption will bring benefits in Efficiency, Usability, Reduced Costs and Centralized Control. Businesses are subject to continuing changes. Change is uncomfortable, and adapting to change is messy. But change is vital-it defines life itself. The key is to learn how to embrace the changes that face both professionally and personally.

For a large percentage of the ERP customers, ERP implementation was their most Complicates and costly software project they have undertaken. But even though it is a costly affair why companies are implementing that and the question arises Is it only a costly show off for a company or it actually giving them a huge ROI (Return On Investment). ? Is it wise to be go for different ERP packages for business integration or conventional Methods were more effective

Objective To understand what is a ERP (Enterprise resource planning) Where it evolve and how it is implemented in business organizations How far it is useful in term of Return on Investment (ROI) The challenges involved in change management (organization culture, people, change in technology etc) Why every Companies or Organization cant implement ERP What is the future dependency of Organizations on ERP packages

Methodology The chief criteria for the validity of any research study lies in its methodology. An enquiry would prove a failure if it is not done along certain methodical lines. The method of study adapted to carry out the project work is mainly through Exploratory Research. The data extracted are mostly from secondary resources (Articles, Books, and Websites). Some information through direct interaction with organization personnel about their view and experience with ERP implementation.

This is the study entirely based on: Personal discussion. Exploratory Research. Personal View on ERP Published sources. Simple statistical analyses.

PRIMARY DATA: The tools used for primary data collections are purely based on personal enquiry with the executives and staff. Interview with the key people of the company. This enquiry was done in order to achieve and collect much information to make the project more effective. SECONDARY DATA The secondary data has been collected from various published sources like journals, magazines, websites etc. It is also obtained from published sources like annual reports, company profile, books of accounts, other relevant textbook etc.

LIMITATION The period of study was very short Not proper idea was given about the study Not able to get many enthusiastic executives to help in the research No one willing to give the detail insight information about their ERP implementation.
