Our Earth seems to be unique among the other known celestial bodies.

It has water, which covers three-fourths of its surface and constitutes 60-70 weight percentage of the living world. What is water? In science, we have learnt that water is a chemical substance with the chemical formula H2O, which means one molecule of water is composed of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. It is a colourless, tasteless, and odourless liquid. There are many sources of water on Earth such as rain water, lakes, rivers and oceans. Water plays a very important role in our daily life. There are many uses of water. We use water for washing, bathing, cooking and drinking. Approximately 70% of our bodies are made up of water. Therefore, we may die if we are lack of water. Without clean water, many serious health problems will be occurred. For example in Africa, many people get sick as they are poor and lack of water. Nowadays, many water sources all over the world are seriously polluted. According to a research, Russia is one of the top ten most polluted places in 2006. In order to overcome the water pollution, we must understand the problems. Irresponsible human beings keep on throwing rubbish or useless things into the river is the main cause of causing water pollution. Although there is a notice Do not litters, they may still dumping the rubbish into the rivers. Besides that, many factories also discharge a variety of pollutants such as heavy metals, oils, nutrients and solid waste into the water. Most of the chemical substances are toxic and harmful to living things. The excessive use of insecticide in agricultural sector will also cause water pollution. As a result, the marine environment will be affected and the aquatic organisms are killed in large amount which may lead to extinction. In addition, animals will be affected if they consume the poisonous water. Human beings also cannot use or consume the water anymore since the water is polluted. Thus, it affects ecosystem and living organisms. Therefore, we should take some actions to prevent water from pollution. First of all, our government should be stricter on those people who pollute the water sources. They should be fined or punished heavily. The authorities should withdraw the license of the factories that discharge the toxin into the river too. The raw sewage should be treated correctly in a water treatment plant before it can be released back into the river. Other than that, some activities which are related to the saving water can be carried out. For example, some campaigns can be held to let the public realize the importance of clean water and the aftereffect of the water pollution. The government has to encourage the public to recycle the rubbish. This may reduce the amount of rubbish dump into the river. The children should be educated about the importance of saving water and the crisis of the world since water sources have been polluted.

In order to save water, we can start from our attitude and use water wisely. There are several ways of saving water that we can practise in our daily life. We should never throw water away. We can reuse the water for washing car, cleaning floor and watering a plant or garden. Besides, we have to conserve water by turning off the tap when running water is not necessary. We should avoid flushing toilet unnecessarily. We have to dispose tissues, insects and other such waste in the trash rather than the toilet. In addition, we should always take shorter showers by using minimum amount of water. We should not let water run while we are washing face or brushing teeth. These may help to prevent water shortages and reduce the amount of contaminated water that needs treatment. On the other hand, we can try to use less environmentally household harmful products such as washing powder, household cleaning agents and toiletries. We should take great care not to overuse pesticides and fertilizers. This will prevent the material from contaminating nearby water sources. As a conclusion, clean water is really important for all of us. It is necessary to all living things. However, water pollution affects drinking water, rivers, lakes and oceans all over the world. This consequently harms human health and the natural environment. As a result, there will be no healthy community. Therefore, we should always keep our water clean and make sure the water sources are not polluted. Every one shall learn how to love our environment. We have to bear in mind Clean water, healthy community.
