I&E Manager, Maintenance Manager, Material Handling Manager June 1998 Present Company Hawaii, China and Puerto Rico Currently ensuring seamless plant operations by leading the I&C and Electrical teams through routine, specialized, complex and essential plant maintenance and improvement projects. Began career at AES as an I&E Technician and earned promotion to manager within 1 year, ultimately receiving 5 managerial promotions. Expertise In: Efficiently managing mechanical, technical, financial and personnel problems such as high flue gas emission levels, grounded generators, fuel source changes, Successfully managing a wide range of crises in formal and informal circumstances, including acting as Outage Manager during routine, scheduled and forced outages. Recruiting, hiring and managing 12 person teams of high-quality technicians to build, maintain, and improve plant facilities. I&E teams are considered a hotbed for discovering future plant leadership. Delivering highly complex projects on-time and under-budget. Managing the working environments of 2100MW, 500MW and 180MW CFB pulverized coal plants, 58MW Toshiba Generators, Foster Wheeler and CE VU40 boilers, Siemens steam turbines and Baghouse back ends. Training employees on high-pressure problem solving using Root Cause Analysis to spot the issues and fix safety and process errors. Selected Successes Include: Successfully revamping emission reduction protocols, reducing opacity emissions from more than 15% down to 5%, bringing the plant below legally acceptable limits and saving it from threatened shutdown. Overseeing two $5MM Electro Static Precipitator (ESP) rebuilds that were completed ahead of schedule, within budget and without lost time accidents, while achieving operational goals. Staunching current and future losses for AES from a grounded generator by spotting the opportunity to simultaneously rebuild the turbine and boiler. Restructuring plant maintenance teams, cutting costs by overseeing manpower reductions, implementing flex-scheduling, and increasing individual team member productivity. Delivering greater safety, productivity and stability by improving the Limestone Control, Coal Crusher Dust Collector, and Ash Vacuum system. Leading the I&E Team during facility construction and unit commissioning for 2 Alstom 250 MW Circulating Fluidize Bed boilers, 2 steam turbine generators, a Circulating Dry Scrubber and an ESP. Managing maintenance groups through extreme challenges stemming from 10 boiler and FBHE tube failures in 2009 and generator stator failure in 2010, setting the stage for long term future operational success. Leading the Material Handling Team with 10 members overseeing 1.5 M metric tons of coal and 12,000 metric tons of limestone process and delivery.
