A Guide for your Internship in Jordan


Dear IAESTE trainee, congratulations on being accepted for an internship opportunity in Jordan. This guide is to explain about the specifics of your stay in addition to providing different explanations and guidelines to your daily life.

First of all, we would like to bring to your notice, that according to our hospitality traditions, we will do our best to insure that you enjoy and remember one of your best experiences, by reading and following these guidelines, you are helping us to do so.

Your Arrival:
Please notify us of your confirmed arrival date in addition to your flight details as soon as possible. Please confirm your flight details by E-mail two days before your arrival. A pickup at the airport will be arranged for you from the IAESTE Jordan Summer Team. If you are spending your internship at the Phosphate Mines Company, lodging will be provided for you in Amman upon arrival for the rate of 3JDs per night, if your arrival time was not compatible with the bus schedules from Amman to Aqaba. We recommend that you arrive over a weekend.

If you arrived at the airport and didn't find anyone to pick you up, please wait at least 30mins before you leave, and call the team coordinator, if it didn't work take a taxi and give him the address of the hotel (See the end of this document).

Your Lodging:
We have arranged for you to stay at the Arena Hotel. You will pay a fee of 15JDs per week, and the rest is covered by IAESTE Jordan. Your stay at the hotel includes breakfast, Free Wi-Fi internet connection. There is a health Club in the Hotel where it could be available at certain hours at which you will be informed upon arrival. The hotel exists in an active area in Amman and on the main street (Queen Rania Street) where public transportation is available. In addition there is a mall 300 m away from the hotel where you can find a supermarket, Bakery and Restaurants. The hotel is also very close to the University of Jordan. The Rooms are all double-rooms, so you will have a roommate. For the Phosphate Mines Company interns, your lodging is provided at the staff complex at Aqaba, you will be staying in double rooms that have Air Conditioning, a small kitchenette and breakfast and lunch will be provided for you.

Your First Week:


A pickup from the hotel to your work will be arranged for you as soon as we confirm your date of start with the company after your arrival. A team member will accompany you to meet your employer, and to arrange for your daily transportation method and/or route. Two days prior to your arrival, send with your confirmation Email a request to buy you a Cell Phone Sim Card in addition to photocopy of your passport's information page, a suitable offer for subscription is provided at the end of this document. Upon arrival, you will receive a map for the area around the hotel, in addition to a brochure and several useful papers, and you will be asked to sign that you have received and read them. During your first week of arrival, one of the IAESTE team members will take you to submit your residency address at the police station, so that your stay would be legal. For some nationalities a medical check is required, and it costs 20JDs (approx. 30$).

Your Stay:
During your stay the IAESTE team will take you around Amman and introduce you to its landmarks, restaurants, famous areas and to its old city. IAESTE Jordan arranges two trips every year, one that takes you to Wadi Al Mujib and the Dead Sea for a full day, and another that we call the Golden Trip, you can see the suggested programs in the attachments. The dates and exact schedules will be confirmed later. These trips are covered 60% by IAESTE Jordan, we advise you to bring approx. 150$ extra to participate in these trips, as the Golden Trip alone costs around 400$ and you will pay around 100$ of it. Your salary is enough to cover your lodging expenses, transportation and meals, but if you want to enjoy your time we recommend that you bring extra pocket money with you, approx 200$ per month of stay would be more than enough for you to enjoy a great experience. Transportation is cheap compared to where you come from and we will provide you with the transportation rates upon arrival. The IAESTE team members will be around at the hotel during the afternoon, if you need anything please do not hesitate to ask them. It is better that you bring your cash money with you either in US Dollars, or European Euros, exchange agents are widely spread around Amman. Electronic money is also widely spread so you can bring a Visa or a MasterCard with you.

If you plan on visiting the neighboring countries during your stay, please check before you leave if you need to obtain a visa prior to your visit, the IAESTE team will help you to ask and organize, but the responsibility of any border issues lies upon you.

The Dead Sea Trip: Heading from Amman to Wadi Al Mujib, A canyon with a great hiking adventure. Having lunch at Al Wadi Resort, and spending the rest of the day at the resort and enjoying the biggest waterpark on the Dead Sea.

The Golden Trip Suggested Schedule: Heading from Amman to Wadi Bin Hammad, a canyon with a hiking adventure through it. Heading to Al Shoubak, visiting the castle, and walking through the underground tunnel. Spending the night at Al Shoubak, with a traditional dinner and an extremely entertaining evening. Heading to Petra very early in the morning. Spending around 6 hours (more but definitely not less) around the Ancient City, having lunch. Heading to Wadi Rum, a 4X4 tour and a sunset scenery at the desert. A traditional dancing evening, along with traditional desert food. Heading to Aqaba early in the morning, and starting your Coral Expedition through the Aqaba Gulf. Scuba Diving sessions for each participant, along with open day snorkeling and beach games all day. Heading back to Amman.

Of course this schedule might change a little in some of it's specifics, and a full detailed scheduled will be confirmed later.

These two trips include all of your meals, and all of your entry fees and expenses, in addition to professional licensed adventure guides. And as previously mentioned you will only pay a small percentage of the fees for any of these trips, the rest is covered by IAESTE Jordan.
