Exchanging ideas and sharing experiences Debating and proposing solutions in a multi-cultural environment

The Europe of Jean Monnet was based on the idea that integration would gradually lead to the emergence of a political Europe. The European integration had a finality. In the spirit of the founding fathers of the European Union, it was federalist: a United States of Europe . European integration has however been put to the test with the financial crisis. The crisis has not only lead to the necessity of emergency adjustments, but more fundamentally, it has called into question the very idea of European integration. But what good is Europe if it is only there to impose austerity plans? What model should we work towards? What major projects can Europe work upon to bring member countries together without betraying national and regional sensibilities ? What should the political connections be both at a European level and the national or regional levels? Which reforms should we make to the institutions ? How can we make Europe more democratic ? The chosen theme of 2012 : Europe, the forgotten finality ? invites participants to reflect upon, exchange ideas, debate and propose solutions
