In the afternoon : *a. The 3-day action was fought by combat teams. was encountered by CT 18 (32d F.A. Bn. of 8 November strong resistance One batThe attack was resumed on the morning of 9 November, attached). Bn. By noon reinforce the 32d 'FA. tery of the 5th F.A. Bn. was ordered to in the south flank of the 16th CT (7th F.A. Bn. attached), 'developed a threat One battery of the 7th F.A. Bn. was attached to the 1st Bn. 16th Infantry at the extreme east point of the division sector. A second battery had la.nded and been ordered to the same vicinity by Corps. The third battery had not landed whereas the landing tables had provided for its landingon the previous day. This left the two battalions of the 16th Infrftry to face the threat with no artillery. The Divis:ion Artillery Cornmander made a reconnaissance and returned, ordering the 5th F.A. Bn (general support) to report to CT 16 at once. The 5th F.A. Bn was in direct support of CT-16 thereafter. At about 0930, 10 November, arrangements were made to use the 5th F.A. Bn in general support since two batteries and one gun of the third battery of the 7th F.A. Bn were arri.ving. The arrangements were delayed due to lack of communications and the possession of such limited transportation. No necessity arose to transfer the 5th F.A. Bn to general support because both CTs overcrame the opposition andc advanced; into ORAN.
;
-b. The participation of Division Artillery Head:al:rters and Headdue to lack of transport.ation Iited quarters Bter ery in the combat wa ls communication eluipment. As har. been stated, the whole. operation fwas and based on CTs.
