Hunger Games

Rules and guidelines


We invite the citizens of the Four Districts (Cabarrus, Rowan, Stanly and Union Counties) to submit original short stories or poems that embody the theme freedom. Each work must be a completely original work. All entries will be judged on originality and style, including grammar and spelling. Entries that do not meet the criteria below will be disqualified without notice.

Writing Contest
Eligibility
Entrants must have a valid library card in Cabarrus, Rowan, Stanly or Union County. There will be three divisions: Grades 6 to 8* Grades 9 to 12* Adults *To submit work as a student, the entrant must be enrolled in grades 6-12 during the 2012-2013 school year (this includes home school students). Entrants may enter 1 short story and 1 poem. Entries beyond this number will be disqualified without notice. Put your name on the entry form only. DO NOT put your name anywhere on your short stories or poems. Entries will not be returned or critiqued, so be sure to keep a copy of your work for yourself.

Short Stories

Must be no longer than 1,500 words, typed and double spaced on 8 x 11 white paper. Do not illustrate your story.

Poetry
Must be no longer than 36 lines, typed on 8 x 11 white paper. Write your poem in any form: sonnet, ode, haiku, etc. Short stories and poems must not have been published elsewhere.

Prizes
All entries will be published in an anthology. Winning entries in each category will receive: 1st place: $50 + copy of anthology 2nd place: $25 3rd place: $10

Important dates
All entries are due September 14th. Winners will be announced at the Final Event at the Cabarrus Arena on October 13th.
