TAPI gas pipeline May 25, 2012 On Wednesday, the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, a project worth $ 7.6 billion inched closer to its beginning when the four countries signed an agreement concerning the price of gas. Turkmenistan will sell its gas to these countries reportedly for a period of 30 years. According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Reserves, Pakistan will receive 1.34 billion cubic feet of gas per day as part of the deal. Turkmenistans energy reserves are not in doubt, nor should one censure it for trying to make good use of them. The ventures drawback, however, is the Afghan territory it would have to cross in order to reach Pakistan and India, where the possibility of sabotage can hardly be ruled out.
