MIKLEPORTERS FIVE MODELS

Mikleporter provides a frame work that an industry is influence by these forces:

1. Rivalry:
Pharma industry is one of the most competitive industries in the country with as many
11 | P a g e

different rivals fights for selling the same product with different names. At this stage the JAWA Pharmaceutical has four major competitors that are the local competitors: IrzaPharma Unexo Laboratories MunwarPharma Drug Pharma

2. Bargaining power of Customers:

The unique feature of Pharma industry is that the end user is very important who buys the product. The consumer has a greater choice to buy the same product from other manufacturer. However, when we look at the buyer's power, we look at the influence they have on the prices of the product. Government with its policies plays an important role in regulating pricing through the NPPA (National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority). In the JAWA pharmaceutical the product is sold by the two ways: Over the Counter Sales (OTC) Sales Representative

3. Bargaining power of Suppliers:

The Pharma industry depends upon several organic chemicals. The chemical industry is again very competitive and fragmented. The chemicals used in the Pharma industry are

12 | P a g e

largely a commodity. Because of the economical changes in the country the prices of the raw material is increasing very rapidly which cause the high rate of the raw materials. The active materials are also imported from China and India which cost the company at the competitive rates.

4. Threat of substitutes:
The biggest threat to the pharmaceutical industry is the substitute products which are been developed by the competitors and are named differently having the same chemical composition. Therefore the companies which enter newly in the Pharma business they develop the products at the less prices causing the customer turn towards their products. The substitute herbal products are causing the great threat to the JAWA Pharma, like the cough controlling syrup made herbally by the Quershi is damaging the market share of the JAWA cough control syrup.

5. Potential entry of new Competitors:

It is not only incumbent rivals that pose a threat to firms in an industry; the possibility that new firms may enter the industry also affects competition. Industries possess characteristics that protect the high profit levels of firms in the market and inhibit additional rivals from entering the market. The new entrant should have to get the legal orders from the Government to make any product and for registering the firm. High growth prospects make it attractive for new players to enter in the industry. The industry attractiveness is low.
